When you stay at the Cosmopolitan do you accrue points on your Identity card AND you Marriott or do you have to choose?

According to a recent email I received from them, it's one or the other.

Well.. I've been able to do both. I haven't stayed at the Cosmo since August so I'm not sure if there has been a change since then.

We stay there at least a couple of times a year and have always gotten both Marriott and Identity points. I guess if I have to choose I'd opt for the Identity points as the points I earn on the room are the primary way that I maintain my Identity status.

For those that say you get both, are you talking about both for the room rate? Or both for your play as well?

sorry dumb question. for those that have said they were able to earn both Identity and Marriott do you have to book thru Marriott website and at check in/out show them ur identity card or book thru Cosmo and then add ur marriott number?

    Thanks in advance

Officially, it is one or the other, but you can earn points for both.

You need to book through Cosmo (unless you are booking a room with MR points, in which case, book through Marriott but you will not be able to get identity points per Cosmo's policy). I never include my Marriott number at checkin. If you include your Marriott number with your reservation, there is a possibility you will only earn MR and not identity points for the room rate. I just fill out the "Missing a Stay" form on Marriott afterwards, attach a copy of my folio and they add the points to my account anyway. Cheers to double dipping! :)

Also, this should go without saying but if you are eating at Cosmo or spending any amount at the hotel, always charge it to your room and pay with your Marriott card at checkout. You will get 5% back in identity points, 5x MR points for your spend, and may be able a few items comped off at checkout based on your play.

Hand your Credit Card over along with your Identity Card when paying.

The Marriott Card is a deadly combo with the Cosmo. Points galore. You might go ahead and pay for your room if you're not comped to help with the signup bonus.

I don't use Marriott points to redeem for rooms the Cosmo. It is not worth it. I want to say it costs 45k points for a night stay on the weekday, and you can usually get rooms for $100-150. Weekends might be better. The point to cost ratio is just bad. But if you stay at Marriott hotels often outside of Vegas, that's where it works for me. One stay we were able to redeem the points we earned for about 4 nights at a Courtyard.

Yup, I am always pleasantly surprised at how quickly I rack up MR points at Cosmo. Especially if you are doing bottle service at marquee. Actually, if you are doing bottle service, you will also probably also make identity platinum from spend after 1-3 trips depending on your budget.

If anyone is interested in a Marriott card PM me your email for a referral link :) I believe their current signup bonus is 80K points.

I agree. It is typically not worth it to use Marriott points to redeem for rooms on weekdays. It is only really worth it on weekends where the casino/rack rate is very high. New Year's Eve, for example--casino rate for a terrace suite is $775 and $1000 for 12/30 and 12/31. I booked it for 130K MR points. At $12.50 per 1K points, that comes out to $1625.

December 31st check-in is not allowed. You must check-in on the 30th or earlier. This is Cosmo mandated and has nothing to do with Marriott.

I just checked now and I only see City Rooms available and they're $45K per night. If you're going to be using points make sure you do the math to see if it's still worth it. $12.50 per 1000 points is the rule of thumb.
