    My Trip Report

I have been lurching on this site now (daily) for the past month as my trip approaches. Speadsheets have been started (my wife laughs at this but I know other people on here are just as obsessed as I am). The plan I make is not rigid and I am more than happy to do none or all of it but I get a kick out of researching places we haven’t been to before but always wanted to try.

Some background, we are both mid-to late 30s, and go to Vegas once a year. We live in Dublin and Vegas is our favourite place to visit. I have been going for 15 years solid. We are leaving Friday and my excitement is reaching unbearable levels. I am not sure whether I will be able to do the whole thing ‘Live’ as my wife would probably kill me for constantly being on my phone / ipad but we’ll see what happens.

Below is my current itinerary (open to suggestions)

    Friday

    • Check in Bellagio
    • Dinner in Portofino in Mirage –never been there (the restaurant not the hotel)
    • Gambling in Mirage or back to Bellagio for VP and Craps

    Saturday
    • Breakfast at the pool in Bellagio
    • Downtown – have gone twice before but never for longer than 2-3 hours, I can only imagine how crazy it must get on a Saturday so thought we’d do this for a change. Have never been in The D, Container City and will probably do a ‘cheap and cheerful’ lunch or dinner down there depending on how much fun we are having.

    Sunday
    • Keeping the day pretty clear to relax, walk the strip.
    • Le Cirque for dinner
    • Gamble in the Bellagio – VP and Craps mostly

    Monday
    • Relax by the pool in the morning
    • Lunch in Milos in the Cosmo (heard good things)
    • Sushi for dinner – location undecided

    Tuesday
    • Gun range in the morning (have never been to one before – we always plan on going but always get distracted)
    • Shake Shack for lunch
    • Wander around Mandalay Bay (we normally stay in Wynncore so don’t really know that end of the strip very well)
    • Thinking Pink Taco for dinner and gamble in Hard Rock Hotel (we have never been there before)

    Wednesday
    • I’ll play a cheap poker tournament in Mirage or Caesers on the morning while the wife hits the pool
    • Afternoon – no real plans – have never been to Ellis Island – is it good???
    • Night – SHOW – either Lionel Ritchie or something else (we’ve done most of the Cirques, Absinthe etc – open to ideas)

    Thursday (Last full day)
    • Breakfast in Mon Ami Gabi
    • Rest of the day – who knows
    • Maybe dinner in Twist or Bazaar Meat

Brief History of my Vegas Life (don’t want to bore you all with 10 more detailed TRs!):

2000 – Luxor – Two nights (8 of us in a 2 Bed Queen room) – Placing 5 dollar (total) bets on number 14 and the corners. Caught the gambling bug and have never stopped loving Vegas. Couldn’t believe you could drink for free whilst winning money.

    2001 – Luxor – 3 nights

2002 – MGM – With an ex and some friends

2005 – Bellagio – With an ex. Great trip, first time going were I had a bit of money. Ate in Picasso, saw ‘O’ (fell asleep after 20 mins as hadn’t slept in days)

2006 – Bellagio with ex girlfriend and my parents (their fist time ever in the US. and I brought them to Vegas! – they loved it but got a little freaked out by the size of some of the bets I was laying down). My mom loved the Bellinis in Bellagio and still talks about them. Ate in Prime – amazing Steak, great service etc. Saw LOVE. This was the first trip that I ever played Craps which I adore

    2007 NO VEGAS ☹.

2008– Bellagio – With Wife (then girlfriend – her first trip and she loved it). Picasso again, Had my first hand pay. - VP – Royal .25

2009 – Venetian – My 30th – My wife booked this as a surprise, great trip.

2010 – Palazzo – Limo, 5 nights comped, plus 600 Credit and 300 Food – best offer I ever received from any company. Then went to LA for a few days, Southern California and back to MGM for 3 nights (which my wife did not like – she is too used to 5 star hotels!). I think we got such a great comp from the Palazzo because my wife had prepaid the whole trip the previous year to venetian and so they couldn’t comp us on the rooms that year. I gambled heavily and therefore the system showed I was owed good comps. When I checked out after having the free five nights etc, I stopped by the casino host to see if there was anything else that could be comped off my bill and was told that they had ‘over-comped me’ by €20,000! Had my second hand pay Royal VP .25

2011 – Wynn – We adored the Wynn as you will see from the following years of loyalty. Ate in Lakeside. My wife got her first Royal.

2012 – Wynn – Ate in SW – cant remember anything else stand out

2013 – Encore – Had our worst meal EVER in Bartolotta. It was our anniversary and we booked the private dining at the small lake (not to be confused with the Wynn Lake of Dreams). The service and setting were excellent but he food was bland. We eat a lot of fish and all the dishes were mediocre. Everytime I walk by that restaurant it brings back the terrible memories of paying close to 700 dollars for a crappy meal.

2014 – Wynn & Palazzo (Stayed in Wynn for 7 nights, had a ball and decided to change our flights to stay longer and the Palazzo gave us two free nights). Ate in SW. Saw Absinthe – loved it and would probably go to see it again.

2015 – Wynn – just three nights – way too short – Saw Britney Spears live which was actually pretty good. Ate in Mizumi and loved it – right up there with one of the best meals we have had in vegas

2015 – Cosmospoloitan – went with some guy friends to the Conor McGregor fight against Chad Mendes – 14th row – amazing time. Loved the cosmopolitan but not as much as Wynncore or Bellagio. My friend picked up the tab for this trip so it was easy to get by the wife!

Ok I will stop here as no one will bother reading the actual report as they will be dead of boredom.

If anyone want to recommend anything or steer us away from anything please do.

We both play VP, I play Craps, and small bit of slots / roulette / BJ (I can play BJ in Dublin with better rules so whats the point).

The gun range. As an American I own six guns, two for target, three for protection, one exotic. The big thing at Las Vegas gun ranges is the full automatic machine gun. The experience is nothing like the movies. It is very expensive, like a dollar a shot. It is very controlled; the range master was braced against my backside. You shoot in three to five shot bursts and the weapon becomes uncontrollable. You will have more fun with several different caliber pistols and maybe a shotgun.

If your wife doesn't like MGM as it's not 5* I'm not certain that Ellis Island is the Casino you are looking for!

Tried the 20 dollar trick. Seemed to be working but our room for a not great - not a patch on Wynn/encore or Venetian palazzo or cosmo. Mrs macattack more disappointed than me. Ran down to grab some water from and won a quick 8@ dollars on a 1c quick win machine betting max (i.e. 3 dollars). Good start. The progressive 5 dollar vp is at 24k. Definitely want to run 100 through it

Warning Ellis Island, is a Dive Casino. NO carpeting , cheap kitchen tile floor. Mostly .01 .05 .25 cent machines. And the only dollar machines are 3 WoF. And Being from Dublin, you probably won't like the beer. Most people go for a $7.99 shrink wrapped strip steak or some BBQ. A couple $3 or $5 BJ tables 1 crap table that's closed during the day. That's the whole place. Oh a Motel 8 outside.
The wife always wants to stop on the last day before we hit the airport. I hate it.

I agree....it's a dump casino. Bad first impression ever since I parked in the parking garage there and a homeless guy came right up to our rental, used it to shield himself from prying eyes, and took a piss between the cars. #Classy
