    Rant time! Hear me out.:soapbox:

I am SO sick, tired, and ready to blow every time I read of someone complaining of NO coffee makers or teapot in the room that they reserve; or a refrigerator; or a microwave. (Referring to another website which name starts with "TRIP").

Listen: you GET what you PAY for! There are many rooms in Las Vegas hotels that have these amenities but they are NOT the $39 rooms you paid for!! (Especially through a third-party booking site!)

If you want to have these luxuries in your room at your disposal...then PAY for an upgraded room which most (if not almost all) hotels and resorts in Las Vegas advertise clearly on their websites.

You are NOT staying at the Hilton (or Motel 6 for the matter) in Dallas, Philadelphia, or Denver. You are in Las Vegas. If you piss and moan about seemingly minor things "missing" from your Vegas resort room, you probably don't belong in the casino gambling or going to the restaurants or bars and not having the decency of leaving a deserving tip to the servers.

I understand that being frugal and enjoying your Vegas vacation is a goal of many, but jeez....if you want a "steak", you're going to pay "steakhouse" prices, not frickin' McDonalds dollar menu prices!

    I'm done now. :poke:

personally, if people are upset about no coffee pots in the rooms, i get it. The crazy high resort fees should cover that (and more)

I agree. It's not about money or being frugal. It's the principle. If you claim to be a resort, you should act like one.

Won't be surprised if they start providing coffee in all rooms but then charge you for it......wait, I vaguely recall some places doing this is the K-cups.

Is that not part of the evolution of the hospitality industry? If the low-bar hotel chains can add a fridge and coffee maker, I don't see why it's such an arduous task to do the same in Vegas at your resort-fee charging venue. On one level, a room is a room is a room. However, it is my opinion that Vegas is in the relentless pursuit of relieving you of every bit of change in your pocket - by design. Want a cup of coffee? Go downstairs and buy one. Want a soda? Go downstairs and buy one. Wanna put a mini-fridge in the room? Call downstairs...we'll rent you one.

That being said, it's Vegas. It's what Vegas does. There's no real reason to complain about the absence of these amenities once you get the joke. Unfortunately, for a lot of people who write on Trip * , and don't know this, it can register as a complaint. Think about it...you have to pay the resort fee whether you use any of the 'resort' options or not (we've used the pool once in Vegas, but paid for it five other times as well). "I'm shelling out $X for a 'resort fee', and no coffee machine? That's weird! I wonder how Best Western can afford all those coffee machines?". ;)

I don't like the fact of the Rio (All suites hotel) not supplying a coffee maker or even real glasses in the room when they used to all the time.Even the Gold Coast still does.
Last week (Masquerade tower 24002).And reservation was made under a Diamond card, really?.I tipped housekeeping and they supplied what was desired.
CET doesn't care about the property anymore it appears.I cancelled my res and stayed another night at the Orleans with coffee and real glasses in the room. It;s the small things that count..

One reason we like staying at MSS (comps are main reason) is all rooms have fridge. Cal also. Even the Boyds that charge it is $15 for stay, not day. And most of the time easy to get taken off bill.

Personally I feel that your room in Vegas is for two main things: 1. A private bathroom so I don't have to do that in a public restroom. 2. Use by two or more consenting adults to do adult things. Sleep would rate number 3 but isn't a necessity when I'm on vacation in Vegas! If you're spending enough time in your room to need all the amenities I see people complain about on these boards you may want to consider a different place to vacation because "Sin City" isn't for you!

Don't forget on the site that begins with "Trip" about The Tunnel.

I was on that site for many years and I have heard and participated in the coffee maker debate for almost the entire time. You know, people pee in those things for a laugh.

I have seen other male bodily fluids in a hotel coffee maker. But it was in Jersey, so that comes with the territory. From then on, strictly lobby coffee.

I think in Vegas it is LESS about wanting to nickel and dime you, and more about getting you to walk past a bank of slot/VP machines or tables. The more they get you out of your room, the greater shot they have at your money, I think.

Not entirely true. The Flamingo Go rooms have them and they can be quite cheap. :)

Wow, that's some epic opening rant. The ironic thing speaking specifically to Coffeegate and folks being cheap bastards -- that lousy chain motel by the interstate with no resort fee likely has a coffeemaker in the room, and a fridge. By the same token, I've spent more on some roadside Best Westerns or Fairfields than I have for Bellagio.

As for another post here: What changed at Rio? When did those rooms all become suites? I know I haven't been there in five or six years, but what I recall from a ROH accomm is a large box with crappy furnishings and bad decor.

Agreed, the room is for the 5 s's. A pre-game cocktail is okay, but I'm not sitting in the room drinking coffee in the AM or any time of the day.

HA! Bravo!!! I enjoyed this, but I'm also NOT a coffee drinker (love the smell of it though), so it doesn't affect me. I always thought it was just one more way to get folks out of their rooms and downstairs to experience a Starbucks or whoever else is paying an exorbitant rent to operate a business in the building.

I think the issue isn't as much about the coffee maker itself, but perception vs reality. Vegas was always known as a budget vacation spot. They wanted your money to be spent in the casino, so hotel rooms were cheap, bargain rates for buffets and late-night restaurant deals, etc. Beautiful rooms with plenty of amenities for $79 and under. In the mid 2000's, I could easily do a week in Vegas, gaming included, for under $2k. Large room with nice appointments, fridge, coffeemaker, lovely view of The Strip and still have money for dining, drinking and gaming. Now, not so much.

When you consider the lack of value of the "resort" fees, it can make a person wonder what has happened to the Vegas business model. On my upcoming trip, looking at rooms, I was faced with fees for parking, "resort" fees that cover almost nothing I care about other than their junky wi-fi, and room rates of $170+/night for even basic Strip hotels before the fees (Bally's, Flamingo, Tropicana, Monte Carlo, etc). Just the room & fees was going to cost me $1300+ for 6 nights. For a low-roller like myself, that doesn't leave much in the budget for dining, gaming and entertainment.

On any review site like TripAdvisor, Yelp, etc, you're going to find the regular Negative Nancys who always have to complain about something. And there are always going to be people who want Cosmo Suites for Circus Circus prices. But I don't think there's anyone on VMB who hasn't noticed the increase in the fees and prices while services and perks have declined over the last few years. I think it's been pointed out a few times in the threads about being "over Vegas" on the board. There are still good gaming options and decent prices to be found, but you have to be a lot more flexible on dates and location than you used to.

Ken,that is what they advertise themselves as...Been staying there since 2002...And I could care less about room décor. Back then even the mini-bar was stocked if you wanted something at night..This past trip it's empty..
