What do you say when coworkers ask you where you're going, and you don't want to say?

I know I'm not alone on this, on telling someone you're going to Vegas, and getting the disdainful, "well, what do you DO in Vegas?" Or the lecture, or "The Look"...

So, I really would rather just not tell people. But, if people at work catch any hint of a trip, they are incessant on asking where I am going.

I've tried "the Southwest to see inlaws." They push more.

I've tried not mentioning a trip, they seem to know. (Must be my Pre-Vegas glow!)

Today, I tried a more firm stance, just acting busy and saying I didn't want to go into it. Well, the response to that approach was a big, pouty huffing and puffing.

I like my coworkers, so I want to be honest and nice, but I DON'T want to go into Vegas, and go through the whole "why do you like such an awful/boring/shallow/"put any adjective here" response!

Just curious if anyone else has a case of the nosey Nancies, and how you handle it?

Sometimes I tell the truth..sometimes I lie:whistle: Only once did I say I was going by myself..they were like "OMG why would you go by yourself" and looked at me very strange..my response was "I have people in my face all day everyday kind of like now"

I have gone with my sons, my girlfriends, my cousins, my nieces, my aunt, my husband. A solo trip is WONDERFUL, you only have to take care of yourself. Now when I say I am taking vacation they respond "Vegas?" and I just nod.

My response to "Why go solo to Vegas?" is " I can do what I want, where I want, and when I want and not answer to anyone else". Actually, I have gone to Vegas so frequently (3 or 4 trips a year for 10+ years) that my co-workers regularly ask me when my next trip to Vegas will be. When someone in my department is thinking of booking a trip to Vegas, I'm regarded as the "go to" guy to ask about what to do and see while there. The last co-worker who consulted me about a trip asked me about tips on staying downtown. She came back from her trip and thanked me for all of my Vegas suggestions. She even ended up dancing on the bar with the female bartenders at Hogs and Heifers one afternoon. I took a week off last month to visit my parents in Michigan and when I got back my co-workers were "shocked" that I hadn't gone to Vegas on my vacation. I guess my Vegas trips are more or less "routine" and no longer raise any eyebrows with the people I work with. I've never had anyone give me the "look" or a lecture about drinking and gambling....even if they did I wouldn't care...my response would be "BITE ME!"

I've worked at my company so long that they are all used to it. Especially after my last trip when I basically told them I had brought all of my money home and paid for the trip. I did lie once when I was sneaking in a trip over the Thanksgiving holiday. No one work even knew I went.

I just tell them the truth. I can do what I want to do when I want to do it. I can eat when I want, gamble when I want, read my book when I want. For as many who give me strange looks, there are just as many who look envious.

There are so many Vegas nuts at my work, the only question that gets asked is: "so when's your next one".

This. I work in a casino and many of my co-workers go to Vegas on a regular basis. I get asked all the time if I gamble, I get asked why I would go alone, I get told all the time that my plans for a longer trip each time is too many days.

Being that I work in a casino I get asked all the time why Vegas would be my choice.

I personally work with vegas junkies so there's no explanation needed. However at my old job I would get the same comments from the wonderful penUT gallery. They would know im going somewhere because they would see that I'm on vacation according to the schedule. So as all the inquiring minds want to know about our Vegas trip as I never say much. But they really wanna know "so what are you gonna do in vegas..." I tell them the God honest truth... I bluntly say we're going there to get liquored up, win some money, eat at the best resturants, go to the best spa and get massages, rent a cabana by the pool, and do tons of shopping at the outlets :) I leave out the part about going full tilt @ the blackjack table out :poker:...:usa::trophy:

One of the benefits of being a college teacher is that I take most of my trips to Las Vegas during breaks (winter and summer), so I just don't see my colleagues around that time. Which is good, because the vast majority of academics disdain Vegas and trying to defend the place gets old. (I belong to the very small subset of academics who secretly love Vegas. We do exist.)

In your case, I might just lie. Say you're going to California. Will your colleagues ever know?

Retired now, but when I was working I told them where I was going and never heard one negative tossed my way. You must work with a pack of nosy shitheads.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. With my trip looming, I'm getting asked right and left where I'm going. I just say I'm going to America's Adult Playground. I also admit to them that I don't like talking about it because everyone gives me sass. The reality is, half the people who ask have never even been to Vegas so they only assume based on the "stories." I hate people that knock on Vegas despite never going.

100% of the people always say "Good For You!" and wish the best and wish they could go or have been there and just smile.

Where are these people who make snarky remarks to your face and question what you do in your leisure time? I have never come across them.

People want to get as much info as they can as they like to put down what others enjoy.
Heck we even see it on this board when someone mentions they play slots and others act toward them like non-vegas people act toward your trips.

I tell them the truth. If they show disapproval, I go into detail. I don't win them over, but it serves them right for asking.

For me, they get suspicious when I go on vacation anywhere ELSE than Las Vegas! :)

When I was working, I worked at a place where nobody traveled and nobody had any interest in my trips to Vegas. It was a bummer not having people to talk to about things that interested me.

Ask them "Why, are you writing a book?".

When they say "Yes", tell them "Then leave this chapter out and make it a mystery.".

I go to Las Vegas about 10 times a year. My co-workers expect to hear stories when I return.

    Your co-workers are just jealous . . . .

I have one nosy, disapproving coworker. Last time I told her I was just taking day trips - which is true, just day trips in Vegas. I'm having a spell of bluntness of late, so next time I'm going to tell her "well I'm going to Vegas to see friends and enjoy the city. I know you look down your nose at Vegas, and are incapable of enjoying yourself, so you probably wouldn't get it." :haha:

Retired now, but when I was working and did 5-6 trips a year, the only thing I used to hear was "so when is your next Vegas trip?" Co-workers were amazed because I always had a trip booked, sometimes 2 or 3 ahead.
