    My Trip Report

This trip report is a really old one - the trip was in 1999 and this is its third go-round - posted on the original Travel2Vegas site, and on the pre-blogger platform Flusher site.

I recorded some audio clips and included them with the report, and those are included.

    Hope you enjoy it!

"The flight was a comfortable one stopper (in Chicago's O'Hairport) and we were arriving in Vegas at a wonderful hour - 9:30pm. This is the magical time when the cocktail dress wearing ladies, bejeweled and bedazzling are escorted to the casino by their beaus. This is the hour when the roar of gambling reaches a fever pitch in the casino and fills everyone with adrenalin. This is the hour when they bring out the second tray of runny bread pudding for the dinner sitting at the Mirage buffet."

This might have been the first time we stayed downtown. We had started playing more there as the strip video poker pay tables became more and more dismal.

We'd already had it with taxis in 1999 and opted for our first ever limo ride.

The index page and first post are up.

    Here's Part 2.

Found an interesting way to get a comped meal at the Nugget. In retrospect I think I could have gotten more. We ate at the coffee shop at the Vegas Club. I have no idea how they let this place slip away over the years because I remember waiting in line to get into the place.

What was it called, the Upper Deck or something?

And who remembers this hotel... ha!

Here's part three of the 1999 classic, I Lost a Shitload of Money and Later Got Excited That Someone Gave Me Free Dice.

This was a really fun day, and there are parts of it I remember quite well, like the guy telling his kid that Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was a moose.

We played those same dollar Jacks or Better machines at the Nugget in the hallway that I keep hitting Royals on. The scratch card promo at MSS was on even in 1999. And we went into the California, joined the slot club, and promptly left... little did I know it would become my fave!

Is it not rendering correctly or are the colors hard to read? It's kind of a throw-back museum piece. The lousy HTML colors are part of the 'fun'.

I'm loving this throwback report, and the sound bites are awesome!

Really enjoy reading and seeing pictures about a trip from 1999. I got married in '99 and we honeymooned in Vegas. It was the first time there for both of us. Love the nostalgia it brings back.

Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more segments!

My eyeballs hurt reading this TR on my tablet. I hope there is a Royal Flush buried somewhere in it. I might just have to get out my old IBM PS2 with arc-net to ethernet 10BT cable adapter, which is running a dual boot of either windows 98 or OS2 Warp and stunning VGA 640 x 480, The Creative labs Soundblaster 16 card and JBL speakers should crank that TR audio pretty nicely though. Worst case I think I can just print the thing out on my digital DEC 120 dot matrix printer and read it.

Never had a PS2 thank God. 10BT network, check. Windows 98 check. VGA, Jimmy Poon still uses it. Soundblaster - still have an 8 bit model with an actual volume control mounted on the flange. Dot matrix printers - still have nightmares about the sound.

    8" floppy anyone?

Unfortunately my floppy is only 3.5" now. I had a 5.25 but it started clicking when I put those limp suckers in there.
Once my eyes stopped bleeding from reading your TR on my VGA chromatic screen, I was amazed at what a dump the GN looked like in 1999.

Nope, my floppy has shrunk over the years!

The dot matrix printers have been gone from work for 20 years now, but we have a seemingly infinite supply of dot matrix scratch paper!
