Stayed at the Gold Coast our last night in town, had a comp offer and figured why not. We had been staying at the Palms earlier in the week (went to Sedona in between). I had always liked the GC but had not stayed there. Always $5 table games, some good food options (love Ping Pang Pong). The room was just a small, basic hotel room. Nothing fancy. Very small fridge, king bed. Clean, comfortable. Friendly employees. One thing about the GC is that it's a break in casino. Dealers get their start here (and other low end places). I had the WORST craps dealer in the history of craps dealing. I don't like to judge them because I know it's a hard game to deal but seriously anyone off the street who had never heard of craps could have done better. One guy in particular complained a lot about him. To the other dealer, the box man (lady), the pit boss and the floor manager. The response was the same from each of them "it is what it is, we have other tables open or you can go to another casino, we're a break in place and we have new dealers to train".

So one shooter gets on a nice roll. Makes a couple of points and hits some other numbers. It's taking 1-2 minutes (not kidding) between rolls. Finally he said he's had enough, takes his bets off the table and leaves. In the middle of his roll. So the dice pass to the next player. ME. A lot of money on the table but no pressure lol. I actually held the dice quite awhile, about as long as he did. We all made a lot of money. Then, because I had finished the other guys roll, I got to keep the dice for my own roll. And did ok, hit 2 points and some other numbers. I think maybe a long time ago I saw a shooter leave during his roll because he had a plane to catch but I never saw a shooter leave because the table was too slow.

Quite a come down from a Palms Suite to the GC. I stayed at GC last April and was pleasantly surprised but I was coming in from my semi-tidy house.

I don't play a lot of craps at GC but I have never seen that bad a dealer usually fairly decent. I'm play most of the time in the morning, what time of day was this?

    Thanks for the review.

It was Saturday mid afternoon, around 2 or so. I felt bad for the guy, he was overwhelmed.

Everybody has to start somewhere. That's what I keep repeating to those around me when I get a newbie dealer. That being said, I have left a table over REALLY lousy dealers because if it's not fun, why am I playing?

Agreed, every dealer has to start somewhere. Certainly some are better than others right from the start. I don't think this guy will ever make it as a craps dealer. He was older too, I'd say 50's. Maybe he deals other games and for some reason they are training him for craps. I certainly would have changed tables/casinos had the dice not been hot :)

Have always enjoyed the GC and will be staying there again with my brother for his second time and my third there. Rooms are clean and comfortable and I like the lower limits at the Pai Gow table. Good, friendly casino with a lot to offer especially in VP.

Makes me like GC more for backing their employee.

We visit the Gold Coast every time we stay at the Orleans. I like the place but have yet to stay there. I played craps on a couple of occasions but the dealers seem experienced enough for my standards.

I noticed at my home casino the Cal they break in the new dealers during the 12 am to mid-morning shifts. But it depends. If the table was hot before the shift and continues to be hot they will keep the existing crew on that table until the hot streak ends.

Craps is very popular at GC and Orleans. $5 tables. And Orleans has a non smoking table. Dealers don't necessarily stay with the same company. Once they get "broken in" many move on and move up, the good one's anyway. I would imagine the better Boyd dealers move to another company, Boyd doesn't have many options to move "up".
