This might be a dumb question, but what is going on on January 3rd, 4th, and 5th that is causing the hotel rates to be so high? Big event?
I know that the Consumer Electronics Show starts on the 5th of January....and that is a HUGE draw....
Yeah, CES, it's the first week in Jan every year. It's pretty much the most expensive dates all year outside of a huge fight.
Usually there are still people who are finishing up their New Year vacation so you are catching the tail end of that. Then you have the annual CES convention which starts up on Jan 5, 2017. Vendors are coming in on the 2nd 3rd and 4th to prepare their booths so you have big crowds getting ready for the CES. Unfortunately it's the law of supply and demand, the hotels jack up their rates during this period because they know that people want to visit at this time so rooms are in high demand. I think 2 years ago they estimated that 125,000 people visited the convention so many of the rooms are filled so naturally the hotels want to make more at this time because they can get away with the obscene rates on the strip. Not sure if I'm going to the 2017 convention (depends if we have to pay/how much to pay to get in, previously it was free) but I already booked my rooms for that period. I got $42 a night at MSS for a 5 night stay downtown so that is an awesome rate IMHO for that period.
