Question for Harrah's gurus....

I am currently booked in a Carnival Room 1 King High Roller View room at Harrah's, and received an e-mail for a stand-by upgrade to a Carnival Room 1 King Strip View room for $5 per night. Other than the view, what would the differences be between these two rooms? Which one would be the quietest?

This is my first time staying at Harrah's, and I want to make sure I don't get a crappy room! LOL!!!

(I know, I know, I should stay somewhere else then, right?)

I have chosen Harrah's because I will be playing in the blackjack tournament there, and I am solo, so the main thing that I care about with the room is that it is clean and quiet!

Nah, not this time. Just going to play in the tournament, so more convenient to stay at Harrah's.

 

It all depends on whether you really want/need a strip view. Think about how much time you spend in the room looking out the window and that should help you decide.

Ok, I just had the newly renovated carnival south...and let me tell you the strip view was horrible. It was from the back of the hotel so you can see the strip over the pool and the rest of the hotel. So yeah, I could see the strip, but it wasnt worth upgrading. So just be careful when they say strip view. I was mad they considered this a strip view, because las vegas boulevard was visable but not what I would consider a strip view. It was more of a pool view with the strip in the background. I couldnt even see the mirage at all.

 

Save your money and ask for it for free at check in if you want one.

 

I've stayed at Harrah's 5 times in recent years, and have always had a high floor in the "Carnaval" tower (not a typo; that is how they spell it - with an "a" where you expect an "i" like in the common spelling). I've never had a problem with noise from outside, in either a strip view room or in a high roller room. I have had a strip view room twice, each time facing west. (I'm not sure if there are strip view rooms facing north or south.) The view was OK but not great. Because the Carnaval tower is set back from the Strip quite a ways, both times I could see a lot of the roof of the casino area (and if I remember correctly, also the roof of Casino Royale). There was a view of the upper part of Mirage, upper part of TI, and a little bit of the Venetian. The lower structures -- Harrah's casino and Casino Royale -- blocked the view of the lower part of Mirage and TI, and also of Las Vegas Blvd.

As far as what else is different between the rooms, other than view, I don't think there is anything - at least not if both your choices are the entry-level, lowest-priced rooms (other than the view upgrade cost), which is what I have always had. My high roller rooms were identical in size, shape, and decor to the strip view rooms. And as long as you are on a high floor, they seemed equally quiet to me.

The usual advice for avoiding outside noise at Harrah's is to avoid the Mardi Gras tower, or at least try to get a high floor if in that tower. Despite the names, it is actually closer than the Carnaval tower to the "Carnaval Court" outdoor bar area where loud music plays until the early morning hours -- 3AM, I think. If you don't plan to try sleeping before then, then the noise may not be a problem.

Tip: for the Carnaval tower, there is a separate elevator for floors 21 and higher. So I always try to get a room on floor 21 or 22 because you don't have to stop on multiple floors while other guests get on or off the elevator. The elevator does also serve the spa floor (which is 4, I think) but skips all the others below 21. That saves a little time. If that matters to you, try to get floor 21, or as close above it as you can. Then take the elevator I mentioned, which is to the right of the other Carnaval tower elevator, which serves all the lower floors and also some of the upper floors, including 21 and 22 (and maybe higher than that).

 

my only tip i can offer is, if they give you a room on the pet friendly floor, tell them thanks but no thanks. People leave their dogs alone while they gamble. Bark Bark Bark
