Different place to eat

Trying to find a place to eat either Italian or American that the locals of Las Vegas go to eat. Don't need the most expensive but must have good food. I know each person has an idea of what is good. Just need some help. Will use Uber or lyft to get there.

 

I won't name any of the Strip Casino places....doubt many locals go there..at least not often

For Italian, Nora's on W Flamingo.

 

For Italian, either the Italian American Club on east Sahara. Or Siena Italian on west Sahara.

 

Ok I'll stick my neck out again---- Battista's. (Let the clubbing begin lol)

 

I'll second Battista's. Its Vegas Old School. Family owned. Not fancy. But always had a good meal there.

I have gone to all the Blacklabber Mike mentioned except Pieros and second his call. And YES I have gone to Batistta's and enjoyed it and agree with his assessment that as well not too many locals dine there..

 

What type of polling method was used?

 

Chicago Joe is the one that comes to mind immediately when you think of a place not mobbed by tourista types. It's very small, however. Old-school Italian.

 

I highly recommend this one. The Italian-American Social Club is great and what a neat experience. Old
school feel, nice little combo paying in the lounge area during the dinner hour, pictures of all the famous
people like Sinatra, Dean, etc. on the walls. Food is great and the prices are really reasonable. Don't let
the sort of seedy neighborhood bother you. It is really a nice restaurant. I recommend you call for reservations
though - it really is a favorite local haunt and hard to get a table.

 

I continue to be amazed at people thinking Batistta's is good. Where else do you people eat?

 

I can recommend the following:
Casa Di Amore (locals)
Chicago Joes (locals)
Both are reasonably priced.
Chicago Joes is quite small and may pose a problem if trying to seat a large group together.

NOT RECOMMENDED:
Sergio's Italian Gardens was very disappointing and never went back nor will I ever. Service was lousy and food was not up to par for the price.

 

They must never have had wine before, since the stuff here is worse (much worse) than the stuff you buy in boxes in the grocery store. Not sure how an accordion player playing college fight songs is old school Italian either. Old, yes - Italian, no.

 

Haven't been to Joe's but the other 3 places recommended are solid choices. Many of the locals' casinos have very good restaurants. South Point has good restaurants. Take an Uber there and spend the afternoon/evening gambling and dining.

 

Usually prefer White Castle. If we're winning, we'll treat ourselves to McD's or Taco Bell. One time we went all-out and did the Excalibur Buffet. So Battista's was over the top for us.

I've seen this while driving by but never been there. I somehow got the impression that it was a private club and not open to the public.

It's certainly not a must-do for each trip but I've been there a number of times over my soon-to-be 40 year LV history and I can never remember having a bad meal, nor do I ever remember any of my dining partners having a bad meal either.

A restaurant which is truly bad and genuinely disliked is out of business. They will always tell you (the ubiquitous "they") that some very high percentage of independent restaurant start-ups fail very quickly, and only those which provide good fare and are managed properly stay around for any length of time.

In Las Vegas, for Italian, I've had good meals many places, from those small Mom-n-Pop strip mall pizza/pasta places to the Italian offerings of the major casinos. My current faves of the genre are Bootlegger, Chicago Joe, Ventano's (sp?) in Henderson, and Trevi, and I'm sure I'll think of another as soon as I hit SEND.

In general I tend to prefer well-run independent places over chains and those oh-so-trendy absentee celebrity chef restaurants. I'm particularly fond of out-of-the-way "locals" places that tourista types seldom hear of.

Now to put the shoe on the other foot, I honestly can't figure out why so many people absolutely RAVE over Hash House a Go Go! Each to his/her own I guess, one's meat is another's poison. If we all liked the same things the world would be an incredibly boring place!

As with most restaurants you'll find some people like it while others don't. While Vegas is known for gambling I prefer to keep my gambling on the casino floor and not in restaurants. Now granted it's been 5 years since we've been to Sergio's so things might have improved but thinking back, their reviews back then were fairly positive which is why we went there in the first place. Perhaps had I not been expecting a positive experience to begin with, my dining experience would not have been so disappointing. I recall dining around 5:30 but don't remember the day of the week and there was only one other couple seated when we were seated and the service was lousy. Go figure.

 

Casa di Amore is my pick for Italian.

For American, Table 34 fits the bill. DW Bistro, maybe. Aside from that I think of breakfast joints... Mr. Mama's, eat, or casual like SkinnyFats or Presto Café.
