Per Sonya's approval, I'm posting about an NFL Survival Pool that I'll be running.

It's $20 to enter, a 1-time payment due by Monday, September 5th. You must make arrangements to get the money to me. Anyone not paid by then will be considered not participating.

It will be on Yahoo. You pick 1 team each week. The pick is due by Sunday at noon central time, 10am pacific time. You can pick a Thursday game if you'd like. If the team you pick wins, you advance. If they lose, you're out. You cannot use a team more than once. The payout will be winner take all. As of right now we have several interested. Last year we had 10, and I'd like to get more this year, but it just depends on finding willing people who are able to pay on time. All money received goes to the prize pool, including my own entry fee, I do not receive any benefit from running this pool aside from participating, and I've yet to win one of these.....lol

I can take paypal before September 5th. My paypal email is [email protected]. You can also email me there if you have any questions or concerns. This will be the third year I've ran one of these. I realize I'm relatively new here, so I understand if you have reservations about participating, but just wanted to put this out there.

An acquaintance runs a similar knock-out pool, $20 entry. In each of the last two years she had over 600 entrants - which meant a prize pool of over $12,000. Woot!

One thing - PayPal very much frowns upon transactions for Fantasy supports. If they catch on that you are using it for pools like this they will shut it down. My friend had to stop using PayPal for the pool some years back.

Yeah, I understand the possible paypal issue. It's so small, and since I don't get much activity from out of town members, it's not been a problem thus far.

The red flag with Paypal is when someone uses the term 'pool' or 'contest' and does not use friends or family.DEF NOT Services or something like that..
I've been in a small March Madness tourney and one person mentioned the reason for the payment as NCAA Pool and PPal shut down the guy's account..So next year will be personal checks..

We're interested, but what are the rules or contingencies if somebody forgets to make a pick?

No contingencies. If you forget, it's counted as a loss. you can have yahoo email you a reminder 1 day or 2 days before the cutoff time, so there's really no reason not to get your pick in at some point during the week. It happened last year in week 1 actually, someone signed up and paid and then didn't even make a pick.

Everyone so far has used the friends/family option. It's not been a problem yet.

Yes this is very real, if the volume is high. I have had 2 friends that have had their paypal accounts frozen for suspected gambling activity but these were pools with hundreds of entries. They both eventually did get their money from their paypal accounts. I run pools for the major golf tournaments and offer paypal as an option and beg people not to indicate anywhere in the transaction that is it for a pool. So far I have not had any problem but my pools are small, maybe 60 entries for each one and it is for golf so not really in the cross hairs of paypal I would suspect.

I am in one of these where if you lose in the first 3 weeks you can buyback in. Safe to assume that is not an option here (since you didn't mention it)?

    Payment received, thanks!

15 registered, 10 paid so far. Of those not paid, I know 4 very well and have no concerns about receiving payment, 1 is a friend of a friend and will not be given any extra time. 1 more person has shown interest but not signed up yet.

So, just wondering....other people's picks aren't displayed until after the games starts?
