    My Trip Report

    Weds 3rd August

So this has been a bit of a nightmare with this trip, I got cellulitis about 10 days before I was due to fly. Luckily it wasn’t as bad as last time so I was fairly fit enough to go, I didn’t want to cancel another trip this year. Because of the late booking of this trip I couldn’t get a direct flying out so I had to do the Atlanta route. I got to the airport and I had already checked in online for my flight to Atlanta with Virgin Atlantic.

I had to get my boarding pass printed for the Atlanta to Vegas part of the journey. The guy behind the desk printed off both my boarding passes. As I walked away from the desk I looked at my boarding pass for the flight to Atlanta and I see my seat number is not what I booked. I was about to return to the desk when I noticed I had been bumped up to Premium Economy. So that’s a good start.

The flight to Atlanta was good especially now being in Premium, we arrived early into Atlanta and it was a good job as immigration was very busy. The queue for returning ESTA was backed up so I ended up being put in the general queue. About halfway through the queue and they were picking out returning ESTA passengers and sending to the machines. So that helped and I got through a bit quicker.

I picked up my luggage and rechecked it and went through security and had a little bit of time before my next flight. I found the Blue Moon bar and had a couple of drinks in there. Although $10 for pint I made sure I enjoyed it.

Time for my flight to Vegas and its pretty much on time leaving, the seat was not that good especially as it was advertised as a preferred seat and I had paid a little extra, so cheers for that Delta.

The pilot tells us that there’s some bad weather in the Vegas area so we were going to fly out towards California and approach Vegas from that way which will put about 15 minutes onto the flight. Anyway it then turned out the weather had cleared so we could go straight into Vegas and would now be 15 minutes early.

After getting off the plane I collected my luggage and went to get a cab, there was virtually no queue so I didn’t have to wait. We set off towards Downtown to The D. I arrived at The D and check in was quick and easy.

I got to my room which was just a basic but they are nice rooms and I stopped here in April and enjoyed it. I unpacked and freshened up and went off to get something to eat. The only bad thing was my leg had swelled quite a bit during my journey. It wasn’t painful though so I hit Mcdonalds for a quick bite to eat and then headed over to Golden Gate which is a fave of mine.

One of the bar staff recognised me as I’m a bit of a regular here, I had a couple of beers before moving onto the Fremont for a pint. By now the tiredness was kicking in and my leg was hurting a little by now. I finished the night in The D before heading for bed for a much needed rest.

    Thurs 4th August

I woke up about 10 am after a good sleep and my leg was feeling a lot better as well. I hit the shower and then made my way down into the casino. I hit the bar and the VP and my bad luck in this place continued. After a while I was getting a little hungry so I got a hot dog from Coney Island.

After filling up I had a walk over to Toy Shack and the sports memorabilia shop, the weather not so good and it’s raining a little. I head to El Cortez where my VP is usually better. Even before you reach the door you can already smell the casino. I got inside and head to the bar and I play for a couple of hours and pretty much break even in the end.

I take a walk up to Golden Gate for a couple of beers in there before I move on to Main Street for a beer. I’m getting a bit hungry so I head to the Golden Nugget buffet and after filling up its then back to the D for a rest.

I sleep a little more than I wanted to and it’s about 10.30 pm when I wake, I get up and freshen up and then head out to Fremont Street. I head up to the Golden Gate first and have a few in there. I then go over to Binions which is somewhere I rarely venture into. I have a beer in here then head back to The D for a couple of drinks before hitting my bed.

    Friday 5th August

I’m up and out for about 11am and I go down to The D casino and hit the VP at the bar and have a few drinks and the VP again is not going well again. I break off for some food and Mcdonalds is very close by so I get something in there.

Once I’m filled up I head over to El Cortez again and hit the VP in there, I’m there for about 2 hours and again I’m about even when I leave. I head back to The D and get changed and get a cab down to the Strip.

I get dropped at Mirage and have a walk along the Strip and end up in O’Sheas for a beer. Next it was across to Tilted Kilt for a couple of beers and then on to Paris for a beer at Gustevs Bar. I then head over to Planet Hollywood, I just have a walk through before getting to Twin Peaks for a beer.

I have wander back up the Strip and end up in Mirage and I get a drink in there at the Centre Bar before getting a cab back Downtown. Once there I go over to Golden Gate for a couple of beers then on to The Fremont for a drink. My last port of call for the night was The D for some drinks before bed.

    Saturday 6th August

My day started about 11.30am in The D, again I try my luck on the VP but it’s not happening for me. Eventually it is food time so I have the short walk to Coney Island for a hot dog. I take a walk out in the sunshine and I head to El Cortez. After about 2 hours I’m a little down but not too bad.

I have a walk back out and end up in Golden Gate for a beer or 2. After that it’s back to The D to get showered and changed. It’s food time again and I het the Golden Nugget buffet to fill up. I take a walk over to Downtown Grand get a beer in there, it seems a little more busy than the las time I was in here.

I head over to Golden Gate for a beer or 3 and then move onto Fremont for a beer in there, then across to The D for another couple of drinks. I have a walk back out onto Fremont Street for a wander round and I end up in Golden Nugget for a last beer.

    Sunday 7th August

I’m up for about 11.30 and I seem to be sticking to routine as I hit the casino for some VP for about an hour. I get fed up with it so I move on to El Cortez again and it goes a lot better for me and I’m playing for about 3 hours.

I decide to get some fresh air and I leave the scent of the Cortez and have a walk up Fremont and it’s back at Golden Gate for some refreshment.

Its food time and Mcdonalds looks good enough for something to eat. After that I head to my room for a shower and change and I get a cab down to the Strip.

I get dropped at the Linq and I have a walk round and end up in Paris for a drink, next it’s on to Tilted Kilt for a couple of drinks. I then make the short walk across to O’Sheas for a couple of drinks in there, they have a band on so I stay in there for a while.

I get a cab back to Downtown and I head for the Golden Gate first and I get chatting to one of the bar staff I know in there. I head to Golden Nugget for a drink in there. I’m at the bar that has the highest bar stools I have ever sat on.

After that it’s over to The D for a few last drinks.

    Monday 8th August

Again I’m up for about 11.30am and I head to Coney Island for some food, I get a cab down to the Strip and get dropped at Mirage. I head first to the memorabilia shop they have there. I have a look around but nothing is catching my eye.

I have a walk round to Caesars Palace and a walk through the shops, I go into a sports memorabilia shop in there. I’m wearing a t shirt which has a quote from the movie Major League. The guy behind the counter notices and comments that he likes that movie. He also says they have a Indians shirt signed by Charlie Sheen.
I take a look and it is something that interests me, I get more interested as he tells me it’s in the sale and is a reasonable price. I decided to buy it and I will pick it up when I have finished having a wander around the Forum Shops.

My next stop is a designer store as my wife wants a bag bringing back, I sort that out and then have a drink in Caesars before picking up my signed shirt. I get a cab back to The D to drop of my shopping.
I head back out and go over to El Cortez for a couple of hours, next up I go back to The D. This time though I play at the bar upstairs and it goes a lot better and for the first time this week I nearly break even here.

The rest of the night is spent mostly at Golden Gate talking to the staff there as it’s my last night in Vegas. I finish the night at The D before heading to bed.

    Tuesday 9th August.

I wake about 10am, my flight is not till 4.50pm though. I ring the desk and they allow me to check out at 1pm without any charge.
I check out and I get a cab to the airport, my driver is very chatty, pointing out various buildings and what they are. At the airport I check in and see if there are any upgrades. I can upgrade to Premium for $275 which is not too bad.

The flight is quiet in Premium, I have nobody sitting next to me or in front or behind. The flight makes good time and I’m back in Manchester for 9.45 am. So that’s me till October when I’m back for Halloween.

Seems like a relaxing way to spend a few days.

Any chance you have a picture of the Indians Charlie Sheen shirt. Also what did your shirt say?

Thanks for the report. I don't know how you manage to do short trips all the way from Manchester. It takes me ages to get over the flight before I'm fit to do anything. That's just me though.

I'm going for Halloween this year too. Missed it last year, so need to rectify that.

I'm not too bad going over it's coming back to the UK that seems to hit me. Although this time I did via Atlanta which knackered me a bit as I'm so used to direct these days. This was a last minute trip as didn't book it till mid July. I do enjoy Halloween especially on Fremont Street it's just crazy, I'm there for 8 days from 29th October.

Glad you had a good trip! But doesn't sound like there were any royals in this one. :( Hopefully next time!

I have a question....what kind of range of prices are you paying for beer (pint/bottle) at all these places? I find it so shocking that a beer that's $3 at one bar will be $12 or more at another.

You never know, I'll probably be stopping on or just off the Strip. Maybe Tuscany again
