Wow! You're a bird-whisperer. I've never had one land on my hand, but I haven't tried holding the feeder. I did have one land on the brim of the hat I'm wearing in my avatar. I think he thought I was a flower. ;)

    Fun video! Thanks for sharing.

That is amazing. How long did you have to stand there with your hand outstretched before he came to you. Weeks? Months?

I love it! Please share how all of this came to be. I love the fact that you've somehow built trust with the hummingbird.

And what is that thing you're holding? Is it a tried and true certified All American Humming bird feeder?:poke:

Gorgeous. I went to Costa Rica a couple of years ago and stayed in the Cloud Forest part. I was covered in hummingbirds all feeding. Best part of my trip and I would have paid just to experience that. It was amazing and so so beautiful up in the forest.

Thanks everyone! So glad you all enjoyed it. So here is the story of how this came to be. I started to notice that I had the same hummingbird coming to my feeder each evening around 8:30pm. He would go back and forth between the feeder and a tree in my yard. Since I could see him sitting in the branch I thought I would try using my handheld button feeder (you can get them online or at wild bird stores). It took about 2 weeks - 15 minutes a night to get him to land on my hand.

I would wait for him to show up at my regular feeder and then fly to the tree. Next step was to stand next to the feeder for a couple nights until he was comfortable. Then I would actually stand there and hold up the regular feeder. Once he was good with that I would hide the regular feeder and stand in its place with the button feeder in my hand. He would drink from it while flying but wouldn't land. So my last step was I raised my one finger very slowly so it brushed up against his little feet while he was flying and drinking...and BOOM...he landed! Since then he has landed every time.

Please feel free to share the video. There are lots of viral videos of hummingbirds drinking out of things like a red solo cup or flowers that have been covered in sugar water. I would rather people see them with proper hand feeders. It is important to use a container that has a lid so the sugar water can't accidentally come in contact with their feathers. They are unable to get it off and could lose their feathers which is important to keep their little bodies warm.

If anyone gives this a try let me know how it goes for you!

This exactly!! LOL. That is why I called him Norman. It is like he is coming each night for last call.

This isn't Norman but another female that stops by now and then. Let's call her Vera LOL. Just wanted to show the type of feeder I use. It is awesome. Highly recommended if you are looking for a new one. So easy to clean and I like that the hummers can actually perch while they drink. You get a great view of them that way.

That's the kind we use because the liquid doesn't bubble over (like a barometer) in the summer heat!
