August 3-7: Monte Carlo, Rio, Star Trek 50th

Dates:
Wednesday, August 3rd (arrival ~10PM) through Sunday, August 7th (departure via the dreaded red eye)

Purpose of Trip:
Star Trek Convention (50th Anniversary Edition), and massive amounts of gambling, of course

Lodging:
2 nights at Monte Carlo, comped with $100 FP and $100 RC
2 nights at Rio for Friday and Saturday (location of the Star Trek Convention)

Food:
No noteworthy plans, as I’ll be flying solo

Gambling:
90% of my time will be spent in front of a video poker machine, 3-5 play STP is my usual game of choice. I’ve been known to go full Clark Griswold mode if/when I go on tilt. 3-5 play quickly becomes 10-50 play. My typical solution when I’ve dug myself a hole? Dig faster. Breaks in VP are usually populated with Let It Ride and/or Blackjack. I intend to gamble heavily at the Gold Coast during the second half of the trip (primary reason to stay at the Rio is proximity to the convention).

Report Plans:
I’ll attempt to do this live. I’m planning to figure out Tapatalk when I get to the airport shortly, so stay tuned. After the trip, I’ll write up a more “formal,” day-by-day report, for those who don’t care for the format of live TRs. I also tend to track lots of data while playing VP – I know it is of little tangible value, but I love being able to visualize how good or bad I was running with respect to things like premium hands vs. coin in, etc. – I’ll try to share some of that data on the back end of the trip as well.

Summary:
This will be my 3rd trip to Vegas in 2016, and 15th overall (with all but 2 of those trips happening in the last 36 months). I’ve always been entertained by the vast repository of trip reports on this forum ever since I started lurking around 2011. This will be a fun endeavor for me to attempt to contribute at long last!

Aria didn't take, so dropped back to MC. Really, VP didn't take at all, more or less. I'm about 1,500 hands deep at $0.25-$1 VP, and all I have to show for it are 10 full houses. Definitely in a 4OAK drought! And that's not counting the collective thousands of hands at 50-play nickels which likewise yielded surprisingly little. I had had enough of that last night, so switched to some tables. Won about $60 at Let It Ride (thanks to a 3OAK), which I promptly lost on the Roulette wheel. Switched to Craps about 3am, bought in for $200 at a $10 table. Hovered relatively close to even, was up about $75 at one point. But my body caught up with me about 4. Upped my bets at probably the worst possible time and was wiped out by three point-7-outs in a row. Great table though. Called it a night about 4am.

3 short hours of sleep later, I'm back up and ready to gamble!

Plan of attack this morning, in no particular order: Coffee. CVS for supplies. Consume massive quantities of water, as I'm woefully dehydrated. Gamble. Coffee. Head to Rio.

I will be watching this TR. My son is there also for the convention and a little gambling. He is staying at GC first and then I think his last night is at Mirage (on a myvegas comp). Good luck and I hope you get some good autographs and start hitting those 4oaks! Keep sending those pics!!

Following along. Last year I was a week too early for the convention (and I stayed at the Rio!) and this year I will be a week late. Just a casual fan but if it was in town when I was happening, I would definitely check it out. Best of luck to you!
