I was sitting on my patio reading when my peripheral vision caught some movement. I looked over in time to see a mouse coming out of my shed.

So, I go inside and prep a mouse trap with peanut butter. I set it right along the wall near the shed door.

While I'm eating dinner, I notice a squirrel sitting on the patio hunched over something. I look and the squirrel is eating the peanut butter, but the trap hasn't sprung. I open the door to chase it, the squirrel shakes it's head and the trap goes off on the squirrel's nose.

The squirrel runs off towards the woods with the trap stuck to it's nose.

Meanwhile, 50 yards away, a doe and a fawn are watching the whole thing unfold without moving an inch.

Good news or bad? I guess it depends on how you feel about squirrels.

We have one that comes through the back edge of our yard often in the morning. My wife says he is going home from his girlfriend's place. For us they are a treat to see.

When my wife was still living with her parents the squirrels would make their way into the attic. She could hear them and it would scare her. Not a treat.

At home in the suburbs we catch mice in the big glue traps with a blob of peanut butter in the middle. We catch squirrels outdoors with the wire pressure pad traps, and peanut butter, and then we relocate the little tailed rats to the woods near the animal shelter. Never had a squirrel get into a glue trap.

On the ranch we just shoot them.

That is hilarious! Where I grew up there were no squirrels so I thought they were cute sweet things but then I met some.

I just knew this was where I should have stopped reading. But I didn't.

You got to see a mouse, a squirrel, a deer and a fawn all in one evening. Lucky you Breeze :)

Sorry to hear about the squirrel's demise though. Rough way to go.

Squirrels are very good to eat (not red squirrels, though). I just watch them now, but when I was younger I would hunt them.
    Good luck. :beer::beer:

I'm Canadian and don't have a gun, but if I had one ready there are two things I'd shoot. Squirrels and Raccoons. A homeowner's nightmare.

Hawks have invaded our area which was scary since we never saw them before...but the stray cat, and squirrel population is down to nothing so we are cheering the hawks

IMO they taste good. Mild flavor. But they are time consuming to clean and don't have much meat on them.

Sounds like our house. :) We had a neighbor that was FEEDING the raccoons cat food. :grrr: Someone finally convinced them to stop about 4 years ago, but those critters are still all around the neighborhood, looking for options.

Raccoons are beautiful but about the most destructive animals out there. Living in the country we see wildlife all day everyday. We had more than our share of bird feeders destroyed by raccoons. The only one that worked- and it was a joy to see working- was a battery operated bird feeder that would create a circuit when a raccoon touched it. Those raccoons dropped like they were shot and stared at the feeder in disbelief! But, they never touched it again! Happily, we didn't really have much of a problem with squirrels, we didn't have too many trees and I guess the corn and soy planted kept them happy.

Wow, what an awful thread. I have a pet squirrel, so I'm not liking much about anything here!

I am beyond jealous that you have a pet squirrel! My life dream! Love love love those little rodents!
I had a pet raccoon for 3 years when I was a teenager and they are THE BEST pets! Actually the cleanest animals ever!

Found out just a few weeks ago that Rats, probably mice love Coca-Cola but cannot handle the carbonation of it. Seriously worked for a co-worker of mine to clear up her yard of rodents. She put out cups of it and problem solved pretty quick..Sounds crazy and I didn't believe at first but makes sense as rats cannot burp..It kills them from the inside..

In our hood it is a pair of foxes. They have gotten 7 of my neighbors chickens and cleaned out another neighbors fish pond. One of the foxes had the balls to walk up on my back porch and howl/bark at me through the screen door when I told him to git.
