I'm taking the wife to Vegas and meeting up with some of our best friends this weekend. The other couple isn't going to meet us until Saturday, so I am looking for some guidance on good lounges where my wife and I can catch some live music with some of the old vegas vibe on a Friday night.

We're staying mid strip and would like to walk, but if there's a compelling reason to head down-town (where all the lights are bright) we're game.

    Any thoughts?

I have been wanting to check out Michael Monge at Encore- there are videos on youtube- he is a Sinatra type crooner.

This is probably exactly what you're looking for....fun show, great singer that interacts with the audience and a cool and intimate atmosphere.

I agree about Michael Monge. He is very good, entertaining and the band is great. There is a cover charge but I forget what it is.

Last time we went, "the cover" was a 2 drink min PP rather than a fee charged. I figured I'm in Vegas so of course I'm going to have 2 drinks listening to some good crooner music:beer:

Thanks everyone for the insight. I think we're going to check our M. Monge this coming Friday night after dinner.

Monge performs in the Eastside Lounge.......has a window that faces onto the pool area.

Ronnie Rose is in the same lounge on Monday/Tuesday (9 pm - 1 am) of the first two weeks of the month......he also puts on a good show. Can't remember the name of the person who is there Mon/Tues during the last two weeks of the month.

We saw Ronnie last week and they did have a $10 cover for each person.

Cromwell Bound lounge had a great singer one night.
If you like bands, Cabaret at Paris always has good ones; usually 60s-today, often funk heavy.

I don't like to hear Monge/Encore. For my opinion he's a good bawler not singer. The best Lounge singers are Santa Fe & the Fat Horns (Palms/South Point and Smith Center) and Big Elvis. Lon Bronson's Band and Singers are very good too , but not on Strip, yet .
Sometimes Cabaret/Paris Hotel does have good singers.

Hard to beat Big Elvis, very good voice, no cover and no minimum drink purchase required. There's VIDEO POKER at the bar inside the lounge at Harrah's so you can receive comp drinks for minimum play. A very hard combo to beat.

TJ Tyler at Orchid Lounge at Mandalay Bay or you can catch him at Harrah's some afternoons but I think its a Karaoke show. Awesome old school vegas singer.

Not exactly "old Vegas" but I saw the best lounge band/cover band I've ever seen at Mandalay Bay in July.
They do mostly 80's/90's rock covers and play exclusively requests. They're called Vegas Limit and are at the Mizuya Lounge on Sunday and Monday nights at 10pm (no cover charge.) In fact, they were so good I went back the next night and watched their show again. I played in cover bands back in the day and these guys were nailing every single request they received. The drink prices were salty. I'm going to try to see them again in November and will try to bring in a Fat Tuesday if they'll let me.
    Cheers!

saw Mr $ Mrs Smith at Carnival Court last Sun, thought they were great, however, I don't know if Lyssa Lynne would be considered a lounge singer?

Was really bummed to read in the R-J that apparently Michael Monge's show at the Eastside Lounge is closing after Labor Day. Monge also made it sound that there were stopping entertainment in the Eastside Lounge altogether, meaning that Ronnie Rose and the other person that performed on alternating weeks won't be there either.

Between this and the eventual closing of Showstoppers (and the Players Club opening last year), just another sign that Encore is turning into millenial-ville.
