We have never been in Vegas during the holidays to see the decorations. Would love to go this year but was wondering when they start putting them up? Also suggestions from anyone that has been there as to must sees would be appreciated!

Right before and right after Thanksgiving, in my experience. Most if not all is up by the end of that weekend. Crystals always has a huge tree and all the casinos go all out.

Thank you Mrs K!! Not that I need an excuse to go to Mecca but seeing the decorations is now on my bucket list!

The Bellagio Christmas Display says December 1st on their website. Two years ago when were there the week of the 10th they were just opening it but it was fully open last year by that time. It's a pretty site to take in if you are looking for Christmas decorations. It's pretty packed for photos.

Aria has a display of lights etc by the front desk and 5 ft Grinch made out of chocolate in one of the stores just off the Casino floor.

We skated on the Cosmo pool and they had fake snow blowing around and music pumping. It was more of a family event but it was neat to do. Two years ago Caesars had skating as well but I don't believe they did last year.

The Mirage had their three little dolphin statues in Santa suits.

There is a giant Christmas Tree on Fremont St as well.

For being there two years in a row I didn't really notice awhole lot more of big Christmas decoarations.

We're usually in Vegas every Thanksgiving. The set up for decorations varies. Two years ago when we went, the Venetian was set-up and they had awesome Christmas/Holiday stuff going on in the evenings (live music, ice skating rink.)
This last November, nothing was set up yet. We asked and nobody seemed to know when the decorations were going up. My family tried the ice skating at Cosmo and had a really good time.
I'm sure the closer you get the more decorations you'll see.

Thank you for the replies. We are looking at Dec 4-8. Hopefully decorations will be up by then.

You also get the National Rodeo Finals in town. Lots of cowboys and cowgirls. There is usually some free country music shows at the Mirage and I think a few other places like MGM.

If your coming to Vegas to see Christmas decorations then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed (like me) because sadly there really aren't many. But I can confirm that everything that is put up will be up Dec 4th to 8th :)

I've been there that time of the year and while there are some lights and decorations it isn't all that much for the most part. I certainly wouldn't say "all the casinos go all out".

I wouldn't either. Many of the casinos have a little bit here and there. I love the giant poinsettia tree at Sam's Town, but that's a hike if you don't have a car. :) Fremont Street usually has some Christmas themed shows and music and some decorations. Several years ago they had a "tin soldier" parade, but that may be gone now. My favorite is the casinos that play Christmas carols in the background to make me feel like a drunken VP degenerate at 3am. :wink2:

I love the week before Christmas in Vegas - they don't go all out decorating for sure but you know it's Christmas time.... in fact December is tied for my favorite month to visit - it's in a 12 way tie with the other 11 months...

I am owning my agree with Andyg's post. I love the week before Christmas. Some of the restaurants and shows are dark, but rooms are (relatively) cheap and crowds aren't in town yet.

We were there last December 20-24. Loved it. First time going that time of year. We stayed at Aria/Cosmo and I thought Aria was wonderful they had a huge lighted reindeer by the north valet. Crystals had a huge tree and obviously Bellagio had the most decorations and the conservatory was not to be missed. Went to Venetian and it was just okay I've heard they did more in prior years. Regardless for me it really put me in a Christmas mood and we had a blast. We even wore our santa hats one night while playing the christmas story slot machines LOL. Best experience though was renting a firepit at Cosmo for their movie night where they show a film on the marquee next to the skating rink. Awesome burgers and hot drinks and smores all while watching Christmas vacation. Unique vegas experience I will never forget. We've been to Las Vegas a few times in December and while a couple of casinos will do a fair amount of Christmas decorating, the vast majority will not - most will just put up a couple of trees in the lobby and that'll be about the extent of it.

Maybe just was lucky ... Monte Carlo had great decorations, Crystals, Aria, of course Bellagio, Wynn... I found it quite beautiful.
