Yet another sports legend passes. I remember he was still playing for the Hartford Whalers when he was 55.

The Gordie Howe hat trick was a goal, an assist and a fight.

    Mr. Hockey, R.I.P.

So sad, RIP. I've met him - great man, great hockey player - and some great stories ;-)

I used to see him around town when i lived in Traverse City, Michigan back in the late 80s / early 90s.
Hopefully Royal Flusher still has Gordie's hockey card on him and will display it proudly where ever he plays today.
    RIP Gordie :(.

Read somewhere today of how he "created space". His son said that during the opening face-off he would hit his opponent upside the head with whatever. Thus giving notice that no matter his age he was not to be trifled with. A harsh strategy but yet off the ice was known as a dedicated family man and a complete gentleman.

A great loss that will be over shadowed by the funeral of Ali.

I saw him play w/ Houston Aeros against Phoenix Roadrunners -
    WHA circa '76- '77
He was only 52 yrs old
NOBODY on the ice went near him !
He was that start up league's paycheck -
those opposing players all knew it.
It didn't stop Mr Howe from throwing his elbows =
I was giggling at the sight of it !
Glad I could say I saw him play.
