I have a friend looking to go to Vegas, and I think he may be wanting me to go too. He wants to go to The STRAT , but I won't because it is so far away from everything else (I always walk everywhere when I go to LV).

So, what is the hotel like? How are the rooms? The cost sure seems quite a bit lower, but is that because of location compared to other strip hotels, or are the rooms really not so great? The pics tell me a bit, but I want to hear some opinions from those of you who have stayed there.

Why would anyone specifically want to go there? There a cheap options on the strip too. Can't comment on the rooms but the casino seemed very dead the time I visited the place.

I stayed there once as an add-on night. The rooms were very basic and I personally found the whole place to be basic. Not good, not bad...basic. And far from anything fun.

If you plan to walk everywhere especially in the summer I wouldn't stay there. You can stay at Harrahs or Ballys if you purchase your flight and room as a package for the same price and though they are not my hotels of choice they are better than Stratosphere as far as location. Your time in Vegas is valuable and you will save lots of time not having so far to walk if he chooses another hotel. Even Fremont street would be fun to stay if its a budget conscious decision. ;)

I was hoping to show my friend how it is not a great hotel, but I was also curious since I've never stepped foot in the place. Location is huge factor for me, and I wouldn't stay there unless I suddenly find myself on a mission to stay at all the places. I think the lower price is what is attracting my friend, but I've forgotten that I've been offered room comps from NYNY and MGM very recently, so that will take care of the cost issue.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the location. I've walked there a couple of times from SLS (monorail stop), never got a good vibe, and just felt kind of unsafe with some of the things I've witnessed in the fairly short walk.

The bar at the top of the Stratosphere is almost worth a stop by.

Like others have said, the location really kills the place, and definitely not the greatest area to walk around. Probably better to use an offer and have him chip in if needed to help pad your budget that helps create the "free" room. ;)

I remember years back when they advertised 100%+ Video Poker.

I would like to visit the bar/restaurant.

Don't stay there if you don't have a car.

Too far from everything and the neighborhood is sketchy. Stay somewhere else if you can.

Find out what the motivation for staying at the Stratosphere really comes down to. Is it price? I'm sure there's something comparable on the strip that is more centrally located. If you're going this summer, it's gonna be hot...Las Vegas Hot...which makes some people think twice about setting out on foot to explore the strip. As far as ridin' the elevator at the Stratosphere, yeah, that's certainly entertaining (honestly, once is about enough and you wanna do that at night). I'd start working my marketing skills to sell something more like what Trivago shows...Rio @ $32, Flamingo @ $35, Hardrock @ $40 and Monte Carlo @ $45. Trivago shows the Strat @ $36.

The only reason to go there IMO is to go to the top. Going up to the lounge to have a drink around sunset is pretty cool. Otherwise there really isn't a reason to go to the Strat.

I always stopped there once each trip when it was Vegas World. The whole space theme was so whacky and Bob Stupak always had some crazy promotions going on. But since he left I don't stop there any longer.

Yes, this was when I was first getting into such things as pay tables and such. It was no-nonsense. Jacks or better at the quarter level with a mix of 10/6 and 9/7 machines. Big sign "Yes, you found it!" in the area.

I don't remember it lasting very long, however. :(

We like the Stratosphere. Select Rooms are great.Just as good as any deluxe rooms in the mid tier resorts on the strip.

Avoid at all costs! Especially if this is a summer trip - you aren't going to like the walk south. Linq, Monte C, Bally's, TI, Flamingo - all better options.

Stayed there on my 3rd trip to Vegas years ago b/c it was a cheap package on Orbitz. Wouldn't stay again.

As above, location is not great, unless you plan to go to both the Strip and downtown, and don't mind taxis to both. Too far to walk anywhere, really, unless you don't plan on getting much more south than Wynn/Encore.

Property itself is bland. Bland rooms, bland casino, just overall bland. I have almost no memories at all of the actual stay there, to tell the truth. Not a good trait for a Vegas resort.

The area is super sketchy. Crack-heads everywhere. Also you really miss out on the feel of being in Las Vegas due to the far distance from all the action.

About 10 years ago I was staying at the old Sahara and decided to do a quick photo walk up and back to/from the Strat. This was maybe 9-10 in the evening. I did not feel warm and fuzzy even though nothing was obviously threatening. On the way back I walked very briskly to the World's Largest Gift Shop (tm) and relative safety.

Many years ago we stayed there. We would take the bus to circus circus and walk from there to all the casinos on that end of the strip, but now most of them are gone. Westward ho ,Riviera, Stardust, Silver Slipper, Frontier, and others I can't remember. I wouldn't stay there now, but I visit at least once each trip. It was quite the place when Stupak had it only because he did some crazy things.

I have stayed there once and made the walk from the Strat back to the main strip a couple of times, both times felt uncomfortable - dodgy area and the Casino is really nothing special at all.
