MGM casinos to cut back on liquor?

I read on another blog that MGM properties will cut back on the amount of liquor in all drinks served at their properties. The standard pour is 1.5 ounces but the will be cutting that to 1.25. The latest in cost cutting tactics. Anyone know if this is true?

It doesn't bother me too much, as I'm feeling pretty good by the time I head out of my room anyways

But this isn't surprising to me, if true. Honestly, you probably won't even notice the difference if it's any sort of vodka based drink. It would bother me if I ordered whiskey neat and got less, though.

 

I always order doubles anyway.. USUALLY I can tell if it is or not. and the CW will let me know if it can be done or not.

 

it would be amusing that for all the efforts MGM is going through to raise revenue that it merely stays the same, only distributed differently (less gambling $, more fee-based/food/cocktail $)

 

If it is true, it would be the first positive change MGM made over the past 12 years.

 

Seeing as that the drinks are free, it makes very little difference whether it's 1,5oz or 1,25oz. First world problems.

However, I'd love to hear an example of the surge based pricing. Surely there must be some sort of evidence backing the claim?

 

Im not sure if this counts as evidence but i noticed all of the menus ive looked at on mlife's website don't have pricing (rather they have a number of $ signs to indicate if its cheap-expensive). I havent been to vegas since finding out about surge pricing but i will be in 17 days. Will be curious to know a weekday to a weekend price since we tend to eat at the same places.

 

I'll be requesting doubles during my upcoming trip to make up for the light pours.

I always thought this would happen. Believe me, there will come a day when they charge admission to get into and see the casino to begin with. Las Vegas will become a visual destination just to as the Grand Canyon. Don't worry about the free drinks either. They will go the way of the horse and buggy. Where will all the free loaders and young macho's go then?. Not to Las Vegas. They will have to pay real money for the experience.

 

For me, ever since the recession of 2008, Vegas has been getting more un-fun. Bean Counters are really taking the fun out of Las Vegas.

I fully expect that eventually hotel guests without cars or motorcycles will be changed a parking ramp fee to go along with the resort fee. Next up, Celebrity Entertainment fee, just because a resort property has some entertainer there, but I am not frequenting the Celebrity Entertainer, so I will just be charged a convenience fee for that entertainment, that I am not using.

My understanding is that I can use my cellphone to make bets on Sporting Events if I am in the area code of Nevada. I just might have to start frequenting some other place than Las Vegas, NV. Maybe Reno, NV, during the winter and I can go skiing at Squaw Valley.

 

As I (think I) said in another thread, I've gone to bottled beer on the casino floors. It's not only the skimping of the booze, it's the small glass size (or plastic cup) and the mega-boatloads of ice they give ya. Just a couple sips and it's gone!

 

IMO Vegas is adjusting to its new client base which are the club heads. They aren't really gambling and they dont mind paying $20 for a half shot of vodka. I'm sure at some point some Vegas casino is going to explore (may not implement long term) but explore the option of no more free alcohol. If you look around vegas they are making a killing hand over fist with the day parties, pool parties and clubs. All of which do not provide free alcohol.

I agree with BackInVegas comment. I remember when Vegas was REALLY over the top FUN. I felt like you could not experience that level anywhere else in the states. Now its more of your typical big city nightlife except you are able to gamble and walk around with your liquor. (legally)...

Just my 2cents.

 

If the drinks are weak, i'll typically go to beer.. in all honesty, it might be a good thing. If i'm gambling a lot, i drink a lot... so it doesn't make a huge difference in my eyes. Plus i always have drinks in the room as well, so its not like im not drunk in vegas. Very minor issue in my eyes.

 

Apologies for the old thread bump. A bartender at Luxor last month actually showed me the little laminated cards they've been given that is the official comp drink list.
