    My Trip Report

    Friday May 27th

I was flying with Thomas Cook from Manchester with a 9.15 am flight, after checking in and eventually getting through a long security queue I made into the departure lounge. The flight was delayed by about 30 mins but eventually I got boarded and got settled into Premium Economy.
The flight was going well until about 6 or so hours in and the captain made an announcement regarding some antisocial behaviour by some passengers at the rear of the plane. His announcement continued as follows.

“By not following instructions of the cabin crew you are breaking aviation law,I can cancel your return flight, I can have you arrested in Las Vegas or I can divert to an airport and have you removed from the plane. This is your only warning there will not be any further warnings.”

As I was sitting in PE I was a long way from whatever was going on, but I heard a member of cabin staff saying she had not known anything like this for a long time. On arrival at Las Vegas we were told to remain seated when the plane reached the gate. After a few minutes 3 law enforcements officers boarded the plane and walked to the rear. A couple of minute’s later one guy who was probably mid 20’s was escorted off the plane. Another office came on and after another minute or so 3 more guys were escorted off and then finally we were allowed to get off the plane. Apparently what these individuals were doing were smoking in toilet and taking legal highs and also being abusive to staff.

So after that I got through immigration and collected my luggage and headed out to get a cab. I was stopping at Tuscany Suites which I have stayed at before. I had no problem checking in early and I was soon in my quite large room

    20160527_134959.jpg 20160527_135004.jpg 20160527_135014.jpg

I unpacked and had a shower to freshen up after the long flight. I felt better and my first call was Marilyns café at Tuscany. I got myself a chicken sandwich and fries. Then it was a walk up to the Strip, I walked up Flamingo Road and went in to Ballys via the sportsbook entrance and walked through to Paris. I stopped in Paris for a drink before making my way up as far as Twin Peaks where I stopped for another drink. After that I walked back and eventually got back to Tuscany and played some VP and had a few drinks before heading to bed for some needed sleep.

Coming up: Slot pull, celeb spotting, The Who and San Francisco.

I think people have gone crazy lately on airplanes.
Unbelievable what you hear. Glad you didn't have to
divert and waste anymore time than they cost you. Looking
forward to the rest of your report.

    Saturday 28th May

I was awake by 10am and I got up and dressed and made my way down to Marilyns café. I got the Eggs Benedict which I always enjoy here. I made my way out and headed towards the Strip, I made my way southwards and eventually got to NYNY. I had a drink in there and then headed over to Mandalay Bay. I called in at Art of Music memorabilia store to have a look around. I then head to Ri Ra to watch the Champions League. After a few pints in there and watching the game I went in to Luxor and got a cab back to Tuscany. I got changed and grabbed some money and headed up to Mirage to meet up for the slot pull.

I got to the high limit room and met up with guys and girls for the slot pull. It’s always nice to meet up with other board members so cheers guys. One of them was Mick efc who is a fellow Brit. We got the money together and started to play with 10 of us in. After our first round loss we was cut down to 5 and we carried on. 5 then became 3 for one last stand and at this point I dropped out.

While playing, one of our gang noticed a celeb in the high limit room, he was convinced it was Kathy Griffin, I had heard the name but did not know what she looked like. There was a bit of is she or isn’t she before she eventually acknowledges us. She was trying to keep a low profile though it seemed.

After our loss session that was pretty much it and we all left the room, myself and Mick efc went for a drink or 3 in the bar at Mirage. I was going to head Downtown and Mick said he would join me. We got a cab Downtown and it was busy, well actually it was extremely busy because of the Joan Jett concert. We fought away through the crowds and eventually got in to the D and got to the bar.

We had a drink or 3 in there before heading out and made our way up to Golden Gate where it was standing room only at the bar and some more drink was consumed and as we were leaving Derek Stevens turned up.

We finished our Downtown tour in Freemont with a couple of drinks in there before getting a cab back to Mirage where Mick was staying. I wandered back to Tuscany for a few drinks before bed.

It was nice to meet up with Mick and if we are both in Vegas at the same time again I would be up for a meet for a few drinks.

I was up and out for about 11am and again my first port of call was Marilyns café for Eggs Benedict and then I made my way out and towards the Linq promenade. I called into Tilted Kilt for a couple of beers and then made my way over to O’ Sheas. Then it was across to Mirage to have a look at the memorabilia shop they have in there.

I headed into Caesars via the shops, looking at memorabilia shops as I went along. I went to the box office to pick up my tickets for the Who. On my way back to Tuscany I called in to Cromwell for a beer and some totty spotting. I tore myself away eventually and went back to Tuscany and had a few drinks before a shower and change.I set off and made my way up to Caesars Palace and went in to the theatre.

They came on stage and started off with Who Are You and for the next 2 hours they certainly entertained before finishing with my favourite, Won’t Get Fooled Again. Of the headliners I have seen in Vegas I think this is the best performance I have seen.
    20160529_193801.jpg 20160529_192217.jpg 20160529_213341.jpg

After coming out of Caesars I headed to Paris for a drink before making my way up to Twin Peaks and I got talking to an English couple who were on their first visit. They were actually here to get married. After saying bye to them and wishing them well I walked to Flamingo and I was a bit hungry, so I got some Pizza to go and after eating it I washed it down at the bar in the Linq.

After that it was a walk back to Tuscany and a few drinks and some VP before bed.

    Monday 30th May

I was up at around 12 and went to get a late breakfast at Marilyns and after that I walked up to the Linq. I called in at American for a beer then onto the Tilted Kilt for a couple. Then it was across to TI for some VP and more drink. On my away across to TI I went through Harrahs. There was a standoff between 4 security personal and a shirtless guy in the casino.

I got over to TI and had a few beers and some VP before heading back to Tuscany for some food and more VP and more beer. I spent the night just hanging and drinking in Tuscany before feeling a bit tired and heading to bed.

    Tuesday 31st May

I was up for 12 and breakfast at Marilyns and I then headed out. I got a taxi up to Stratosphere as I was planning to visit what’s left of the north Strip. The cab dropped me at The STRAT and I had a wander about before getting a drink at the bar.

Next up it was my first visit to SLS, I had never set foot in here before even when it was Sahara. I did like SLS the casino is very nice and the screen above the bar is quite an effect. I had a drink in here before heading off, it’s a pity about its location as if this was centre Strip it would have no problem.

Next it was another first and this was one extreme to another as I went into Circus Circus. I have heard a lot about this place and it’s all true, it’s like a kindergarten with slot machines and kids everywhere. I did have a quick beer before leaving and having a quick walk through Slots of Fun.

I couldn’t leave this part of the Strip without some pics of Riviera before it finally goes, this will be flattened by the time I’m next in Vegas.

    20160531_145532.jpg 20160531_145840.jpg 20160531_145640.jpg

I made my way down the Strip in the heat and stopped off at Wynn for a drink and then carried on and had walk through Palazzo and Venetian and I called into the Rock bar for a drink and I seen this which was built by Counts Kustoms. I remember it being featured on the show.

    20160531_161656.jpg

Next into Casino Royale which I hadn’t visited for a while. Next it was Tilted Kilt for a beer before calling into Westin for drink on my way back to Tuscany. The casino is still here at the moment. I also noticed they have took all the bar top machines out.

I went back to Tuscany for something to eat and a shower and change. It was now off Downtown. for a few beers. I started in the D with a couple before heading to my favourite spot which is Golden Gate. I had a few beers in here and also chatted to one of the bar staff that I know.

I grabbed a cab back to Tuscany and had a couple beers before bed as I was up earlier the following day.

    Wednesday 1st June

I was up earlier than I have been, I got a cab to the airport and checked in on the machine and went through security. I got something to eat and soon it was time to board, I was flying to San Francisco with United and I booked business class.

We took off on time and landed in San Francisco a few minutes early and I was soon off the plane and out to get a taxi. I had done some research and it was going to be about $55 to pier 39. We set off in the taxi and it wasn’t too long before I was in the city. The driver was informative but also a crazy driver.

We changed lanes so many times while in traffic with a couple of close calls, but I got ride up and down the steep hills and the way he was driving it felt like a car chase.

Eventually I get dropped at fisherman’s wharf and immediately I’m taking some pictures and having a walk around. I make my way towards the Oakland Bay Bridge, walking along the front. I get as far as the Giants stadium. I take some pics and have a beer in their public house.

    20160601_152805.jpg 20160601_151809.jpg 20160601_142712.jpg 20160601_124354.jpg
    20160601_142231.jpg
I set off back although I’m not in a rush, so it’s a slow wander back towards pier 39. I call into the market bar for another drink. I walk along a part where a scene from Dirty Harry film The Dead Pool was filmed.

I have a walk around pier 39 and then head to see if I can get a pic of the Golden Gate Bridge but the cloud is low and it’s misty so it’s difficult to see it.

    It's there I promise you
    20160601_173118.jpg
I decide it’s time to head back to pier 39 and I get a cab from there to get back to the airport. The driver is foreign and English is not his first language and probably not his second either and it takes a few goes to tell him I want to go to the airport. He understood before I had to do an impression of a plane.

We set off and about 10 mins later he cuts somebody up and they are not happy and at the next set of lights he confronts the taxi driver. The cab driver uses his lack of English to try to smooth it over and just keeps saying “have a nice day.”

The guy drives off when the light goes green, we get to the airport and I pass through security and I then get something to eat. I find a bar and I have a couple of beers while watching the end of a Giants game.

Soon it’s time to go to the gate and I board the plane and I sit next to a guy who is travelling home to D.C via Vegas. He used to work in England so we get talking about different things including Vegas. It’s not too long before we are approaching Vegas and once I’m off the plane I wish him a safe onward flight.

I get a cab back to Tuscany for a shower and change and its then time to get back out. I make my way over to Flamingo for a beer. Then it’s on to Tilted Kilt and then O’ Sheas.

I finally return back to Tuscany for some beer and some VP as well.

Nice report, thanks for sharing. Its funny you mention the shirtless guy at Harrahs. For whatever reason the far (North?) end of Harrah's by the escalator to McDonalds seems to house some of the more aggressive, standoffish homeless folks in town. I have seen a couple tussles/shouting matches there and then my son was assaulted by one a couple years back and while filing out the police report, security officer from Harrah's actually said "I know exactly the guy that jumped him, he's been kicked out of here numerous times", and that was based simply on the description my son provided.

    Thursday 2nd June

A little bit of a later start due to the previous long day. I start at the casino bar with a drink or 3 while watching the football. I get a taxi down to NYNY and get a hot dog. I walk across to Tropicana for some VP but I have to change my player’s card as they have changed their rewards scheme.
I play some VP but not getting anywhere so I head over to MGM to play on some slots before I walk back up the Strip to do some shopping before heading back to Tuscany.
It’s shower and change and back out and my first stop is Cromwell for a drink and some totty spotting. I move onto O’ Sheas next for a couple and then a couple more in Tilted Kilt.
I then had a walk and ended up in Paris for a couple of beers before finishing the night in Tuscany.

    Friday 3rd June

Friday is a late start and I get a sandwich from Marilyns before heading out and I end up in Paris and the Indians are on so I decided to take a seat at the bar and watch the game.

After a while a guy sits next to me and starts playing, he is chatting to the guy behind the bar. He says he was playing in Caesars and has come across the light system they use for comped drinks on bar machines. He’s not best pleased with it (I think I heard him say he was diamond). Guy behind the bar explains that MGM have the voucher system at some bars. He says that people are wise to comp drinks at the bar. He says people come up and put $20 in and order a drink and as soon as the barman goes away the person cashes out. He points out that casinos are getting fed up with it.

After the game I head back to Tuscany for a shower change and have to get packed up.
I head out for my last night and start at Cromwell, then onto Flamingo, I then hit O’Sheas for a couple of beers and I get chatting to a guy from Houston. I then head off to Tilted Kilt for my last visit there. I decide to head back to O’Sheas for a couple more.
I finish off at Tuscany with my final beers and then its bed time.

    Saturday 4th June

My fight was at 1.55 pm so I have some lie in. I get up and pack up the rest of my stuff and check I have everything and I check out. Once outside I wait for a cab, I check my pocket and my phone isn’t there. I leave my luggage at the bell desk and dash back to reception. The lady who checked me out gives me a key to get back in the room after I show her I.D.

I get my phone and give the key card back to the reception desk. I collect my luggage and fair play to the bell desk guy as he makes sure I get the first taxi to pull up despite a couple of people already waiting.
I eventually get to the airport and check in and don’t have to wait too long once through security.
It’s a quieter flight home anyway and after a 9 hour 30 flight I’m back in Manchester and begin the countdown for my trip at the end of October.

Really enjoyed your report. I love some of the phrases you use - one
of my very close friends is from the UK and she talks just like that! You did
a lot of walking and thanks for the pictures of the old Rivera - another old place gone.
    Thanks for sharing!

Great trip report!! You sure do get around. I once did a day trip to San Francisco as well, while I was in Vegas. That was for a NY Giants/49ers NFL game, since I am a huge Giants fan. Flew out in the morning, and flew back to Vegas after the game. Was back gambling in the evening. I guess I am not the only guy that does crazy things like that. Enjoyed your report!!:drunk:

Great report, sounds like a lot of fun along with a lot of beers. I like your style. I didn't expect the day trip to SF, was that because you hadn't been there before?

Yeah it was my first visit there, I just figured it was close and a short planer ride away. I also like the Dirty Harry films so to just be in the place where it was filmed just felt great, especially walking where a scene had been filmed. I would like to have so more time there so hopefully next year I can stay a couple of days and see more before going to Vegas..

Enjoyed your report! You sure do a lot in a day. I can relate to your taxi adventures, I've had my share of maniac drivers, lol!

San Francisco has a lot of places to visit and things to do. I agree with you that you should stay a couple of days next time.

    Thanks again for sharing.
