2 year transformation of MonteCarlo hotel starting late 2016 will rebrand it late 2018 as the Park MGM with a Mario Batali's Eataly store

Italy's marketplace will have top-notch food shopping, food to go plus its own cafes and a full service restaurant.

The $450-million transformation is a partnership of MGM with the Sydell Group and acclaimed chefs Will Guidara and Daniel Humm

"Park MGM"? What kind of name is that. They already confuse some folks with MGM (the resort/casino holding company) and MGM Grand (the casino hotel).

The "rebranding" was expected. Dumb name though. Some marketing "geniuses" got paid to come up with that.

Wow! Didn't anyone tell them that "Quad" wasn't being used?

I thought "Park Place" would've been a good name. Wasn't Boardwalk in this area? I agree that having MGM in the name will create confusion...idiots.

I don't care about rebranding but unfortunately this will mean the end of a reasonably priced strip hotel option.

The idea is to tear down the existing hotel and erect a large pay for parking garage that will be the only source of revenue (along with a mandatory resort fee), hence the name Park MGM.

Is there a name for "the place you pass by on the way to somewhere else"?

Eataly in NYC. Surely the one in Vegas will not be so heavy on the "market" portion and more on the actual dining side. It was an amazing experience and for locals, it must be like heaven with all of the specialty departments to shop at for their grocery needs. Visitors to Vegas wouldn't need the produce market or multiple butcher departments nor hundreds of Italian cuisine items that are pretty perishable.

Interesting comments by the CEO, "We are not going to name it something from somewhere else. Those days are over,” Murren said on April 7, after a ribbon-cutting marking the opening of T-Mobile Arena. “This is Las Vegas; we are at the top of the list of entertainment cities. We are not second to anybody. We’re not going to have a property themed after a city from a far-away place.”

In the monkey see money do world of Vegas I'm sure Paris and the Venetian will follow suit. Eiffel Tower implosion. Fill in the canal with more shopping. Excalibur and Luxor will be a challenge but I'm sure MGM can mess those up.

I can see the need for a refresh of the rooms, and it's certainly a prime Aria-connected location, but MC is such a good center strip option. Good offers, cheap rates, food court. It's a great budget option that will now be in the upper tier. Maybe this will further depress MGM, NYNY and MB rates as there will be another higher-tier option.

QUOTE :"... will include two distinct hotel experiences: a Las Vegas version of Sydell's widely acclaimed NoMad Hotel, and the launch of a new luxury hotel named Park MGM..."

So, what is the name of the hotel/casino?

And then they add words like this that just about make you want to throw up:

    ...incorporating its European design influences
    ...reflect a residential feel signature
    ...beautiful and casually elegant design
    ...classically inspired European furnishings
    ...robust art program
...concepts custom tailored for the design and ethos of the resort...

Makes you want to book a room already?

Whoever came up with the name "Park MGM" must be responsible for the name NoMad as well. Honestly, never heard such stupid names before. I don't see this affecting Luxor/Excalibur that much though, those places will remain (affordable) dumps in the future as well. Interested to see how this new place will turn out, can't get much worse than MC at least.

Also a question to those who have been through these changes before. How does this usually affect the rates of sister properties, or does it at all?

The building of the Linq hasn't upped Flamingo/Harrah's prices at all on the CET end.

The Park (what I expected) would have been okay. But Park MGM sounds stupid.
