    My Trip Report

Freemont - chose this because it is a pet peeve. The name is Fremont!

Solo - Put it in the title so you would know off the bat that I am a certified degenerate gambler.

Preface - Last trip was with my wife in October. It was a banana in the pants with a loose monkey kind of a beating. I cashed chips twice during the entire trip. The first was after I bought in for $100 at the first Black Jack table, played the $5 minimum and immediately lost 8 hands in a row. The second was later in the trip, after getting crushed again at a Binions craps table. I took the remnants from my session to the cashier. I asked her if she could see it. "See what" she said. The cloud that's following me everywhere I go. The biggest win of the trip because she appeared to be legitimately humored.

The Goods - Three comped nights at Fremont Hotel. Both flights were slightly delayed but otherwise smooth. I have to check baggage due to the lethal one inch blade on my money clip that the TSA refuses to allow on my body on board an aircraft. This old bastard with my one inch blade would be quickly killed by just about any healthy 30 something male taller than 5' 4" so . . . thank you TSA.

The money clip is a must because, well, I am a gambler. As I understand the rules, if you are a gambler you must be superstitious. I am fully qualified.

First win of the trip: Arrive at baggage claim carousel, wait for less than a minute and a lone bag appears - mine! Off to the non-existent taxi line I go. I generally have told the driver to take Paradise, but this time specified Swenson which very well may have been a blessing. The driver said that Paradise was packed with convention center traffic.

Ride, arrive, check in, to the room, unpack and hang shirts and off I go. My games of choice are VP - ACE$ Bonus / Bonus Deuces, 2 deck black jack, and craps. Played some of each. My craps style, as if I have any, is Pass line with 2 come bets - all with 2x odds. If things go well I will add odds or come bets. I generally like to work my odds (hence my screen name) after a made pass line number is made. On my first visit to a craps table, the first time a pass number hit, I worked my odds and was immediately greeted with another pass line winner - 7. ARGHHH!

Later in the evening, or maybe early morning Tuesday, I walked through the Nugget thinking that I might give their craps tables a shot. Their tables were all $10 minimum - too rich for me. I continued towards the door and was drawn in by a black jack player with black chips strewn about in front of him. I stopped to watch a hand, it looked like the 60 plus year old was significantly intoxicated and had a bet that I thought originally was 5 purple chips. After getting advice from the player next to him, he removed a purple and proceeded to win the hand. The dealer then exposed green on the bottom and 3 purples on top and paid off at least one of the purples with green. I think it was more than one but not completely sure. Drunk guy scooped the chips too fast. I spoke up about the under pay, but drunk guy and the others at the table paid me no attention. The dealer looked at me and smiled. I commented about her being so blatant about cheating the drunk but she just continued to smile. I left being very disgusted with the Golden Nugget.

The final tally for night one was losing more than allotted. I went back to the room and after spending a few minutes enjoying the view out of my window, called it a night. Should have closed the damn wooden shades.

After a thoroughly restful 4 hours of sleep (dumb ass), it was time to begin day 2.

I started out at a quarter slant top VP game just a couple of steps off of the elevator in front of the Keno desk. I played both ACE$ and Bonus Deuces catching my 1st straight flush of the trip - the dreaded King high fortunately while playing ACE$. Cashed out with a small win and exited to the Magnolias at the 4Qs for breakfast.

After breakfast I tried the quarter 9/6 jacks, doubled my money and called it good. I then went back across the street to Freemont ;o) and the Keno area quarter slant tops. Didn't take long before I picked up my second straight flush of the trip, this one was an Ace high (aka Royal) in hearts. Happy, happy, joy, joy! I have been on a horrendous royal drought.

I spent most of the day bouncing around, playing this and that and just generally winning everything I played, small wins but wins none the less. Eventually made my way back to Fremont playing craps. After a few bad hands the dice were pushed my way. My hand exceeded the 30 roll count and due to the inexperienced crew lasted two stick changes. I eventually cashed out up $140 and with a prize for the 30 plus rolls of the dice, a choice of a 5000 point gift out of the display case across from the Bconnected desk. I picked a splendid Fremont Hotel and Casino baseball cap that I will cherish until the end of time. Or at least every time I spot it buried in my closet.

Found my way to Main Street and did okay on VP, Black jack, not so much. Won consistently when I wasn't doubling down. Unfortunately I had many doubling opportunities and lost them all. I am pretty sure that every one was lost staring at a dealer bust card (2's, 3's and 4's dominated). At one point the dealer commented that she was rolling into 21 every time I doubled. "It's like the cards know". It didn't matter what I had, I couldn't turn any of them into as much as a push. Almost as equally amazing, the dealer seemed to bust on the next hand most every time. Eventually the felt was totally exposed and I moved on. Fortunately, I was in the middle of an amazing day and did not let this get me down.

Sat down at another VP machine and was doing well but thinking food. I saw a sign above advertising the 777 Brewery happy hour food specials. BBQ pork sliders for $5 appealed to me. Happy hour is 4 - 6 and 6 was approaching. I cashed out and worked my way to 777. The BBQ pork sliders were excellent! Also discovered a new Main Street favorite - High Roller Gold.

I later found myself (didn't realize I had been missing) at Fremont again and plugged a $20 into one of the VP games between the black jack tables and the bar for some ACE$ Bonus. Caught quad aces for $100. Cashed at $100 and put that onto a craps table at the D. This was easily the best craps session I've had in a long time. Spent hours with some kids (30 ish) that had driven in from Washington. It was a blast! I was eventually chased off when management chose to raise it to a $5 table. Sorry, I am not falling for your attempt to take me out of my comfort zone. Most everyone at the table had been there for 4 hours or more and most everyone left immediately after they raised the minimum. I cashed out up $475.

Back at the Fremont and the same machine that had gifted the 4 aces. The machine appeared to be broken in that it just wouldn't let me leave. If I got close to running out of credits, a quad would be sent my way. Finally after getting way too tired, my back was getting stiff, my eyes were crossed, and my fingers weren't functioning - I was able to fill another straight flush. Ummm . . . Ace high in clubs! Royal number 2 since getting up Tuesday (it wasn't Tuesday anymore).

A short time later I went to the room for another thoroughly restful 4 hours of sleep. Obvious to me I was still tired but just not able to sleep anymore, let the day begin. Started off with a couple of donuts and coffee from Dunkin. Generally a slow burn through cash this day.

Sat down at an empty $10 BJ table in Fremont and after a bad start - losing the first 3 hands, got on a run and won something like 10 hands in a row. Shuffle time and another player joined. Again things started slow but this time it didn't change. New guy made a comment something like 'tell me again why I sat down at this table'. "Hey dumbass, I was on an incredible win streak before you sat down and effed everything up!" Well, I didn't really say this but I might have thought it.

I eventually knew I needed to eat something again but didn't feel like wasting much time, so gave the Lanai Express a shot. I didn't think you could screw up Chinese food, but they found a way. I had eaten here before and thought it was okay, maybe I hadn't had enough to drink this time.

An oddity for me this day was the 2 hour nap that I took early in the evening, Unfortunately it just prolonged the loosing (another pet peeve - I didn't really loose anything).

After the last of my 4 hour deep sleeps (had a great trip but just didn't sleep well) it was time for the last day. I hate the last day!

Fremont buffet for breakfast - Hey! I didn't come here to eat! We have food back home. Played a bit, again losing until it was time to return to the room and pack. Checked out and checked my bag at the bell desk.

After more losing it was time for a change of pace. Sat down at a Super X play and chose 3 play deuces for a nickel. When you play the Super X play shouldn't you occasionally get a multiplier? I think I had 2 multipliers over the course of way to many hands and got nothing on both of them. Switched to 3 play Bonus with a bad 6/5 pay table. It started slow with the multipliers and I eventually switched to 5 play Bonus, the reasoning for this change escapes me. Some time after the switch I was dealt Q T K J of hearts and filled with the Ace on one of the five hands for $200 kick in the pants. Cashed out on the last hand that guaranteed a $100 win at the machine.

Wandered around and decided I need to play a slot machine to fulfill a threat that I had made to myself early in the trip. Searched for and found an old favorite (misleading . . . I've never been a big slot player) - Triple Diamond reels. Ran through a $20 bill in short order after hitting single bars for 20 quarters and a couple of lonely Triple symbols for 4 credits. No wonder I don't play slots, these things suck a$$. Did the only logical thing available and plugged in another $20 determined to triple something other than air. I did hit a couple of triple any bars for 30 quarters, but again it became apparent why I don't play slots. Wait, I have one more $20, the machine is obviously getting looser (for this loser). In it goes. Soon thereafter Triple Triple 3Bars for 720 quarters. Why do I waste time with VP, Black Jack and Craps? After a Triple Triple Bar for 180 quarters, cashed out at $240 for a $180 win!

Time was quickly running out. After another visit to my favorite VP machine near the $25 Black Jack table, the choice was obvious. Bought in for $200 at the empty $25 table. I had not had enough alcohol to be playing at this level but forged ahead anyway. Hit a couple of Black Jacks and overall things went well. After losing two in a row, cashed out for $195 win.

Played a little more losing VP while waiting for the bellman to show up at the desk, collected my bag and headed across the street to an awaiting cab. After a few minutes of quiet time in the cab, I asked Kenny (I can read - his name is pasted above his picture on the dash) where he was from. Kenny was from Cambodia and was quick to acknowledge that this is a great country. Something that I think that way too many of us, myself included, take for granted. Kenny was very cool, took Paradise without me specifying and because I had a winning trip, appreciated his choice of routes, and his love for this country, earned a hefty tip.

Downers - The best result achieved when working my odds after a pass number win was no result. Had many occurrences of a come out 7. Triple AAAARRGHHH. Every time I increased my bet at Black Jack, I lost. Every time! What the hell. I caught lots of quads. I am quite certain that I had multiples of every variety of quads except aces. I only saw quad aces the one time. I was never able to get quad deuces when playing deuces although saw them several time when I wasn't. My streak of not completing a single line royal when dealt 4 is approaching the absurd - I don't have an accurate count but suspect it to be well over 200.

Conclusion - Overall a winning trip. Tuesday was my best ever day in over 30 years of gambling! I spent the majority of my time inside but the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I left with more money than I came with. Life is good! To both (I am an eternal optimist) of the readers that are desperate enough to have made it this far - thank you.

Great report. Very confused here..it's possible to cash out at 195? It doesn't have to be 200? My brain does not compute how this is possible...

Vegas Vacation is one of my all time favorite movies. Who could possibly say it better than cousin Eddy?

Black Jack on a $25 bet pays $37.50. I received two of these. Used the whites and coins for tip bets for the dealer.

No you misunderstand. I am well aware of that.. It was in reference to the fact that if I 199 on a table I have to play until it's 200.. Because well I'm coyot247

You are absolutely correct, I did misunderstand. I had a $5 in my pocket, and was a little antsy playing above my comfort level sober.

    TWO royals! Nice!
Also, if you own a smart phone, you should NEVER take a cab.

Loved your report! I don't do cabs much any longer (really only 2 rotten drivers over all my trips), but also can't do U or L lol - just a bit paranoid on those Timspeed. I'm pretty much fixated on the VIP Shared ride limo service. And they have a great rate for downtown trips also.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Sounds like you had a fun time overall. I'm confused with one thing. You stated you won 10 hands in a row at a $10 BJ table at the Fremont, but later state you lost every hand you increased your bet at BJ. During that 10 hand run, did you flat bet all of those handst?
