    My Trip Report

So my sister was looking for an idea for Memorial Day weekend and I suggested driving to Reno and Tahoe from Washington State. I was a little surprised when she took me up on the offer. We hit the road on Wednesday afternoon. 3 kids 3, 8 and 9 and 3 adults in the car for 12 plus hours is a tall order, but the drive down wasn't to bad. I drove 5 hours of it through Oregon at night from An hour north of Eugene through Kalamath Falls and into California. We got into town around 6am on Thursday despite a few stops.

No sleep for me but somehow I managed a full day on Thursday. We walked around the a truckee river, did some pool time at a silver legacy, had a great cheap meal at Cal Neva (we ate there again on Friday) and hit the Circus Circus Carnival area. The kids had a blast. They crashed early. I spent a few hours gambling at El Dorado which has some good bars. I found one with a good selection of bottled beers and full pay VP. High volatility game with 1200 credits for aces cost me close to $200. I crashed around midnight.

Friday we did poll time in the morning and decided to do the water park over in Sparks. 15 minute drive. The water park was great. The lines were short and they had an opening day special for 16 bucks. We got back around 5pm. I spent a couple hours back at the bar at El Dorado. I was losing more than I wanted to before hitting 4 aces for 300 bucks to break even for the trip. Getting some rest now. Tomorrow we head to Tahoe for two nights. We're staying at a resort on the California side.

Thanks guys. I've done way to many Vegas trips since my last Reno one. I like Reno/Tahoe. The city has improved since my last visit a few years ago. Yah, some of the dive casinos are gone, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm liking the casinos that remain. Good paytables, so far nothing but friendly staff. The city seems a little cleaner and more upscale, especially near the river, since my last visit. It's weird paying for a room, but it should be interesting to see if I generate any offers. I've never been with kids in Reno or Vegas. but so far so good. Several adults makes it easy and I think the number of outdoor activities makes it doable. We're going to check out Virginia City and do some hiking in the Tahoe area. Any other recommendations are welcome.

I gave gambling one final go last night at Eldorado. I lost a hundred but played for a couple hours at the bar. I made gold status at their players club which is very confusing. It's all about average points a day which I couldn't figure out how to track in my inebriated state. Maybe they will throw me an offer down the road.

We hit the road early and decided to head to Viriginia City. None of us had ever been there. Cool little old mining town. We just happened to get there a few minutes before their Memorial Day parade began. Pretty cool. A lot different from the maritime festivals and parades we have at home. Lots more horses. Lots of VFW groups involved. Lots of guys who were a little tipsy shooting blanks from guns :licklips:. No complaints here. We loved it. The town was also pretty cool. We ate well on the cheap and snagged some peanut brittle for the road. Before leaving town we did a mine tour. It was a little pricey, but an interesting half hour. If you're as tall as I am your going to get a little neck strain hiking down into one. Good limbo practice though.

We headed to Tahoe from there. We're staying at the Tahoe Beach and Ski club on the California side of the line. More family time then probably some casino exploration tonight. I'm not going to go to crazy though. We want to do some hiking tomorrow.

There offers are so shitty, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have no idea how I got Gold+, and still, it was only a ONE TIME USE 2 nights a month...I had Gold for SO LONG and didn't get squat..FWIW, Eldorado has the WORST comps in reno, haha.

Good to know. No complaints though when you can play a 99.8% game at their bars. At least I got enough points for a free buffet.

I think (nee: KNOW) the bar tops have better comp rates than any other machines...damn me for not playing them more (the sports book bar has 8/5 ACE$ bonus)

I made Gold status in 2014 by playing two hours of poker and losing $100 in the VP machines. It was about that time that I LOST my regular offer of a BOGO buffet. When setting up my Memorial Day trip, I tried to invoke Gold Card privileges and the quoted rate was five whole dollars less than the rack rate.

I made the second level at the Sands last weekend... I anticipate lots of offers from them. They just need to tell me why I should bother staying with them again.
