I'm back to vegas soon and will be renting a car. Last year I did a dive casino tour of northern las vegas...this time I would like to do the same in the south. Any recommendations or advice? Seedy is fine. ..in fact, preferred. Tia.

seedy------recommend you make a boulder highway run-------start at the north end at Arizona charlies boulder and head south stopping at the longhorne, skyline ,jokers wild and winding up at railroad pass-------all on boulder highway---------just off the boulder highway in Henderson you will find some local dives like barleys, club fortune, emerald isle ,the rainbow club and the Eldorado---------have skipped over some nice places like sams town and Boulder Station since it appears you prefer the bottom feeders-------you will find low end gaming ,cheap food and drink and local flavor------

Silverton - Not quite a dive, but they have lots of old Aristocrat machines. Oh, and a real mermaid that swims around a huge saltwater tank daily.

If you've ever stayed here you wouldn't say that! Rooms slightly worse than Las Vegas Club. Casino dark and smoky. Check in area was so dark that clerk couldn't read my name on my credit card and drivers license. Qualifies as a dive IMHO/

I think Silver Sevens would meet your "requirements", the clientele will for sure. On the corner of Paradise and Flamingo, the seediness of the Sirra Vista neighborhood spills in regularly. Also agree with dukeofdarby's comments above on Boulder as well!

Longhorn on the Boulder Highway for sure. Some of the others mentioned don't qualify as dives in my book. Close to the strip I would say Ellis Island rather than Silver Sevens. Customer base is about the same but EI is a lot darker. Other side of the strip my choice would be Wild Wild West. If you head to North Vegas you can hit some real gems. Big Horn would probably be the go to option now that Opera House is closed.

Side note, my wife hit a royal at Big Horn and the security guy walked us to our car. That signals a dive with an edge to me:thumbsup:

    Southern Valley dives I've visited:

    Wild Wild West
    Bighorn
    Gold Rush
    Jokers Wild
    Skyline

Does not include casinos gone but not forgotten: Boardwalk Casino, Klondike and Klondike Sunset, La Hacienda..

Near The Strip, you have Aztec Inn, Eureka, Stage Door and Ellis Island.

Also, Mermaids and LaBayou on Fremont Street close in late June.

Las Vegas Vacation fans can relive the glory days of the Klondike with this clip:

I did a lot of casino hopping all around Vegas and regardless of south-north, the seediest ones IMHO were Lucky Club and Longhorn.

I went down boulder highway from Sam's Town to Henderson in March. The Longhorn felt dirty like Willie Nelson peed on the floor and rubbed his hair on it. The other seedy one was the Skyline. The bar side smelled like he pooped in a box and left it partially open. Kinda crude but my sick sense of humor came up with that while I was there. I did like emerald island though and jokers wild wasn't bad.

I bet if Willie crapped in a box and put it on eBay, someone would buy it. UPS shipping only, of course. Hell, they might want to invest in the idea.

Carrot Top could just put his whole routine in the box.

Too bad Elvis didn't think of this.

I have been going to Skyline for years. Originally went for the prime rib dinner special in the coffee shop. Last time I went was last summer. I am my friends play vp, so we were playing on a Sunday afternoon listing to the poka band. (always great fun) At that time they had live musics on weekends. At one point I took a break and walked around and saw they were set up to give out Sunday afternoon tacos. What a great surprise, my friend and I also turned a local onto the place and she planned to go back.

I'm doing a short road trip next time I'm in Vegas, driving south on I15:

South Point Casino (mid-high end locals casino)
    Pioneer Saloon
Gold Strike in Jean (a big but divey casino 'resort')
    Whiskey Pete's and/or Buffalo Bill's in Primm

No one has mentioned Club Fortune in Henderson.

One of my local co-workers refers to that area as "Hender-Tucky" but says that the casinos in the area are not that bad, actually.

You can make a lot of stops along Boulder Hwy to get your fix. I always say it's like the strip used to be, only more diagonal. I recommend the American Casino Guide if you don't have one, because it has coupons for several of the casinos there. We always make a trip to Jokers Wild for $1 craps, the only game my wife plays. Eastside Cannery is too nice to be a dive but its rooms are very comfortable and clean if you need an upmarket place to stay while slumming it. For some reason it is the only hotel I know of that charges less for its rooms on hotels.com than on its own website, which makes absolutely no sense, but this will probably change once Boyd folds it into their operations. Also, no resort fees, again, for the time being. It's across the street from the Longhorn which is a bona fide dive.

I also recommend the super cheap restaurant at the Rainbow, which is what the Peppermill will look like long after her showgirl days are over.

I've been meaning to get to the Skyline for their shrimp cocktail, which is on the LVA list of top 10 values, but I haven't yet convinced my wife of the need. Maybe she will need to be challenged to a shrimp eating contest.

The only place I'd recommend that fits the bill near the Strip is Ellis Island. Tuscany Suites is not a dive but is a small casino with some decent restaurants and a nice lounge and very big rooms. If you need a dive on center strip, there is the Casino Royale, but you'll probably be sorry you bothered. Same goes for the Gold Spike in Jean, which was being renovated and was spookily empty last time I stopped there to use the restroom.

Update: I checked the Rainbow's web site and it appears to have been renovated, which is a complete travesty. However their prices still seem to be very reasonable.

I call the Longhorn my dive casino, but I love the place. Great BJ Rules, cheap BJ tournament many noon, $1 beers, and I think the food is pretty decent in coffee shop and they will comp easily on table games and great comps on VP also.

This is a great thread! I stayed at the Tuscany several years ago for a couple nights. Not a dive, actually thought it was a gem. Never heard of it before my stay but got a very cheap room and loved it.

We checked out several Boulder Highway Casinos last trip. It is like the strip only affordable!

We are considering centering our stay out there next trip. Of course, we will have a car.
