I have come to the realization that a little lubrication from a libation will get the "Brain" out of the way. Swing is smoother and putting improves, of course its a fine chemical balance between golf euphoria and drunk golf
My recipe can be a beer to start and if things start to go astray I do a double shot of Tito's and thing seem to come back for me.
What's your routine and does it help you?

The "lubrication" helps my pain + stiffness.
I walk - despite having arthritic hips - but
by the 16th tee box I am stiff beyond repair.

My group will flag down the Drink Cart by then, and
have a beer. Usually, finishing the beer by the 17 th hole.
The beer will take my mind off of being physically uncomfortable.

    All that being said -
I shot my lowest round ever ! ---
after taking some of my wife's painkillers ( which were too strong for me ! )
I was "loopy" and shot my best round ever !
God's honest truth............and why ?........any number of theories ?

Alcohol makes us think we're better at a whole lot of things! And how it improves peoples' looks ...

Golf at our level is a social game, and a wee nip certainly will round out a few of the jitters or edges that accomplished players round out by being accomplished. I have friends who drink throughout the round. That's not for me. But a Bloody or a Michelada or two, no problem. But I still play most of my rounds w/o.

You do get in somewhat of a 'zone' and I have experienced this in Golf,Billiards/Darts and Bowling after a few beers, but it disappears quickly pushing it..But no doubt about it it helps at least in my experience..Who was it that pitched a no-hitter in baseball while under the influence of LSD? Wow now that's a zone..

I've had some of my best rounds while wounded. I blew out my back one time, and being a guy so of course not very smart, I kept playing. I went sub-80 hunched over like Quasimodo.

One or two at most for me on course. After two I lose an edge I want. Prefer to wait until the 18th for me.

hungover golf was always my key to play better. I remember playing a two day competition in Wales a couple of years ago, blew it first round with about an 84. so went out until 3am, teed off about 9am and shot 72.

    Yes, drinking helps my game
    Yes, drinking hurts my game

There's no set rule to it. If you are on a roll (and care), you probably shouldn't start drinking. If you are eating it anyway, it may help and can't hurt.

Drinking helps me take the swing to autopilot and separate process and outcome. So when those things are an issue, sometimes after a couple drinks things look better. But it also hurts decision making and concentration, so it is a fine balance. Doesn't matter how oiled the swing is if you are being too aggressive, or not picking an exact aiming point, or being lazy reading putts.

I find that a few drinks (usually beer) can help me relax and release tension from my swing, but if I go overboard, I just lose concentration and start to make stupid mistakes. (I guess I could say the same thing about my gambling.)
