We had been paying about $250 a month for our road runner and cable for years. That was with 2 DVRs and the encore package. Several months ago we went to our local office and said we need to lower our bill. We went to 1 DVR 2 free basic boxes and got it down to $150. But then last month it bumped up to a $175. We already had Netflix and Amazon Prime on our Roku so we added Hulu and CBS all access. - most of our favorites are on CBS .

My husband had them increase our internet speed. I don't think it is any faster. It is supposed to be 300 and when we run a test from phone app the fastest it has been is 85. Anyways our bill is now $65. We are very happy with Hulu and the rest. And talk about being nickel and dimed on add on fees and taxes on cable and satellite is no better.

Good for you. :) We took out our cable and internet because we don't actually need them. We have our cellphones, radios, and DVD players. We can get entertainment from all three.

Congrats on cutting the cord! We did it early this year. Roku is cool. We added an Over the Air antenna which gets us some local channels. I miss my DVR though.

We have TWC triple bundle and just got a price increase from $165 to $171. Enhanced DVR, HBO & SHO. Five TVs in the house, but only one HD feed. We received notice today that they eliminating basic cable and we are going to need a digital adapter box for every TV we currently want to continue to use. Monthly rental $3.25 per box.

For those of you who cut the cord, how do you get ESPN? We couldn't live without that, especially during NFL season

I think the Sling TV streaming service offers ESPN, that right?

I personally haven't felt the need to cut the cable cord just yet, all the millennials have forced the giants like my vendor Comcast into a negotiable position. Last summer my bill averaged the upward creeping $170/month, decided in the fall I was done paying that so I spent a good two weeks calling Comcast, getting their best offer, then hanging up if I didn't like it. Well it took two weeks to get an offer I liked. Now I average $110, locked in for two years. This includes a pretty fast internet speed, mid-range cable package w/ HD channels, DVR service, HD box rentals, and they threw in HBO free the whole 2 yrs. The cable internet a la carte would be in the $70/month range if I didn't bundle. And my cost is AFTER tax + fees. I think Comcast wants to stop ppl defecting away from cable. I'll gladly take them up on that offer as I mostly watch live TV (i.e. sports)

Joe, https://www.sling.com/ has ESPN as one of the 20 channels they offer for $20/month. I don't subscribe but some co-workers do. I see jeff posted as I was typing.

Wish I could cut the $200 cord but working from home won't allow me too...

sling tv has espn as well as a few others.

    https://www.sling.com/

The other option is find a friend or family member with cable or satellite and get their log in and just the watch espn apps on streaming players or espn3.com on your computer.

Wish we had more options but we're in the boonies - no cable, we have satellite for tv and for internet (but different services because bundling doesn't save us any money). We're limited in data so none of the streaming services will work:cry:Ah well. We survive just fine.....

I haven't had cable TV for five years now.

At first I did miss watching live sports on TV, but now there are more and more ways to see games online and stream to TV or through Xbox... for TV shows I just download them as torrents off the internet and that usually works out better.

Even without TV service you can watch TV. I have netflix, amazon, and hulu I have plenty to watch whenever I want. I pay $50 for internet and another $20ish for the three streaming services per month.

I cancelled my HBO and Showtime subscription. Seems like their programming, and quality of series, has gone WAY downhill in recent years....

Live sports - not just ESPN - keeps me connected to cable... everything from NCAA football & basketball, NCAA wrestling, Formula One, etc. It all looks great on that 70" LG.

Anyone have any details on the AT&T direct tv streaming option coming out later this year? From what I understand no contract, no equipment to buy, no satellite attached to the house. But no pricing or channel availability announced yet either. I'm interested in this option if NFL Sunday ticket is included as well as other live sports channels like ESPN and Big10 network.

We haven't had cable for years now, because we live close enough to New York City that we get over 60 channels with a rooftop antenna and then we pay $10/mo for Netflix. Saves us about $100/mo. I can only watch Mets games on weekends, but I'm too busy during the week to watch ball games anyway, so no problem there.

after being nickled and dimed by Cox Cable for over 20 years, i shopped around and chose Direct TV. (i kept Cox internet). I was promised a 60 dollar a month guaranteed rate for 2 yrs.
After they hooked us up, the price started rising every single month with the same crap that Cox did to us. So, i went to the bare minimum with them until our contract expires. Then it's
Hulu, Netflix and maybe FireTV or something. If we had a local office for Direct TV i'd take our dish and throw it through their window.

Pricing is still in the works but right now sunday ticket is only included with the top three packages (out of 5) so it is highly unlikely to have sunday ticket included with the lower cost streaming options. It is an expensive addon as well.... several hundred dollars a year.
