Opinions On Excalibur

I'm looking to stay at south end of Strip and Excalibur is pretty well priced. I have read reviews online but just looking to get anyone's opinion on this place.

Lowest end property in the MGM family. Stayed there one of my first Vegas trips on a comp and won't do it again. The rooms are dated and beat up. The steakhouse is just ok and the other restaurants are not great. I would recommend any other MGM place over it. If you can afford it, MC or NYNY are usually fairly cheap and are much better options.

 

Honestly, i really like the excalibur. We stayed there right after they renovated one of their towers (the one by Baja fresh) a few years ago and they called those rooms "contemporary rooms"...i think they are now called resort rooms (the other tower i think is now called "royal rooms").

We don't stay in fancy places when we travel (think drury Inn, la Quinta, etc) so relatively low falutin character of the excalibur doesn't bother us one bit. Lots of things to eat, connected to Luxor and Mandalay Bay (we prefer the south strip), and easy to navigate.

I don't know why but I always end up in the Excalibur poker room. The casino doesn't have the feel of the other higher end places. I would not pick Excalibur to stay in but nothing wrong with those that do.

 

We stayed there in a contemporary room in 2013. The older rooms are now even more remodeled. We enjoyed our stay there. Used the Wax bus from the airport and got off at NY NY. Also used the Wax bus to go downtown and back. The casino was smoky but our room was clean. Would stay there again.

 

I can't remember which tower we were in but the rooms were renovated so it was nice, really. I do remember food trays in the hallway that did not get picked up for the duration of our 3 day stay there.

It's an o.k. place and the casino has lots of different machines to suit everyone's tastes. The table minimums are often $5.00, lots of food options, there's a food court and in-door walkways to Luxor and MB. It is a great location on the South Strip and there are pedestrian walkways to enable you to get to NYNY, MGM, and elsewhere on the west side of the strip relatively easy.

Depends what kind of experience you're looking for. If you're laid back and easy going you'll be fine. Don't expect Wynn/Encore or Venetian/Palazzo type of experiences.

 

Stayed in one of those contemporary rooms a few years ago. It was a decent experience. The room was good for the price, I enjoyed the casino and the spa, but food options weren't the greatest IMO - that might have changed now, though. I think it's a good place if you're on a tight budget or just want a cheap room.

 

There is nothing wrong with it at all. Clean, big casino. It's themed which I prefer. It's a bit more smokey than others, though.

 

If you don't care about "Luxury", the Ex can be good low-brow fun. It's definitely worn down, and the rooms are small and no-frills, but if you're used to staying at lower-end places it's comfortable and clean enough. The resort clientele is what you would call "working class", no suits or fancy dresses will be seen there. Shorts, big guts and fanny packs are more the dress code.

The resort staff is kind of the grizzled vets of the strip, you can almost imagine a lot of the bartenders and cocktail waitresses have been downgraded from working at the higher-end MGM resorts. Dick's Last Resort is a hoot to eat at, good fun, decent comfort food. I haven't eaten there but I hear the steakhouse is first class. If you're into food courts they have one of the best in town. You're also on the tram line to Luxor and Mandalay, so if you want to upgrade your experience it's not far away.

Totally agree with one of the other posters, though, if you are bothered by cig smoke this is NOT your place. Ventilation is horrid.

 

Its my home base. I stay there 5 or 6 times a year. The resort rooms are really nice and upgraded. Rooms are clean, showers work, beds are comfy. Casino is comfortable. Easy access to Luxor, NYNY, MGM, MC, MB...

What most everyone else said that is positive... Low limits to play, right next to the big boys, excellent value.

 

Stayed there in February, no problems. Room was dated, but clean. Housekeeping was fine, staff friendly. Good food court, buffet was pretty good. Like others have said, its not fancy like Wynn or Palazzo, but it doesn't claim to be, and prices are good for those on a budget.

 

It's by far not a luxury hotel, but it is clean, and by the standards of any other hotel outside Vegas it will be a really good one. Again it is dated, but clean.
I haven't stayed in a remodeled room yet, but the other ones are okay. I like it because it is cheap, it has a food court and tram to Luxor and MB.

 

It's not the fanciest hotel on the Strip, but it's still my go-to. The rooms are inexpensive and clean. I've never had a problem at either Tower. I'd have no problem recommending it for the budget traveler.

It's surrounded by five other casino/hotels just a couple of minutes away by foot-bridge or free tram. Excalibur's got a great hub location; for my needs, anyway.

 

I forgot to mention this in my post. How true. It can get bad at times. My eyes and nose hurt. Probably the only major downer though.

 

When it comes to hotels, my range is quite wide. One day I can do Super 8 and the next day I'm at Mandarin Oriental. It all comes down to value for me. If a room is worth its price, I'd do it. So, take my advice with a grain of salt.

I stayed at the contemporary room (they were renovated with flat screens etc then) in 2010, and I liked it a lot. The room was comped. My room was overlooking the pool area on 10th floor (I think), so the morning pool music was a little bit annoying. But other than that, I really liked the experience. I recently stayed at El Cortez for the first time, and I can say Excal was a little bit better than that. But I liked El Cortez either

Of the Mlife hotels, so far I stayed at Mirage, Aria, Excalibur and Luxor and I can stay again at all of these properties. No major problem with any one of them.

 

I never stay there but I always play Craps there. Always seems to have a fun crowd around the tables

Low-end but still acceptable. It used to be my go-to place until I moved further north. Worse than most on the Strip, but better than any number of other places off-Strip and Downtown.

 

Thanks everyone for the replies, I mostly stay mid Strip ( TI or Mirage) or off Strip (Tuscany.) With it being Memorial weekend a lot of places are top prices .Excalibur was a decent price for that weekend. I have a booking at Tuscany any way but was looking at other options.

 

I no longer stay there, but we did stay there several times. It used to be our go-to. But we had a couple of experiences w/less than clean rooms, and now our low-end go-to is Luxor.
