So I've never stayed downtown before. And I usually stay at MGM or NYNY, so I usually just hop in a cab. My next trip I will be staying at MSS and was wondering what the fastest/cheapest combination is to get there. I know those two things may not go together but just looking for options. Thanks.

I've always used the bus and it works for me and of course the price is right.

From the MGM/NYNY corner, I'd take the WAX that picks up on the south side of NY approximately once an hour--check the schedule on the RTC web site or google "WAX RTC Route Las Vegas". It picks up there approximately once an hour and takes the freeway to DT. Luggage is welcome, will take you about 20min, and $2/person. Will drop you at the Walgreens next to The D.

$2 WAX bus. Downtown in about 25 minutes. It drops you off just a bit south of Walgreens on Casino Center, so a little hike up Fremont to MSS, but nothing major if you have wheels on your luggage. The bus has luggage racks.

Pick it up at level zero at the airport. Only negative is that it only runs about once an hour from McCarron. So if your flight times don't coincide with departure times, you might have to wait.

So Does the WAX also pick up from the airport ? Or just from NYNY?

he said from the AIRPORT, not MGM/NYNY smh

fastest would be a cab or uber(if they do pick ups at the airport)

cheapest would be that Wax on/Wax off.

Surely you don't expect me to actually READ on a message board?!?! ;)

Yes the NYNY comment totally threw me off. I would have done good to actually read the 2nd portion of Joe's reply

WAX from airport runs once per hour on weekends, much more often on weekdays. Don't fall for the 108 or 109. They may say downtown but they are local routes and you will lose time. WAX ride takes about forty five minutes and two dollars. Uber takes about twenty minutes and twenty five dollars. If my wait is under twenty minutes I'll take the bus. Don't buy a ticket at the bus stop, just have two dollars exact fare ready.

I've only stayed downtown once. At McCarran Airport, I crossed the airport luggage area and took the escalator down one level to Level 0. At the bottom of the escalator I used the men's room so that I was comfortable and stepped outside. In front of you slightly to the right are all of the stalls for busses and casino shuttles. The very last stall is for the local busses including the WAX bus. I waited about 30 minutes until the WAX bus came. I paid $2 and got on with my luggage. It made a stop near MGM Grand and got on I-15 Northbound. It made another stop near Charleston and then I got off at Carson St.at the Walgreens. I walked 4 blocks to my hotel at Fremont and Main St. Easy-peasy and only $2. Took about 30 minutes once I boarded.

My error--can I plead old age?--I misread your post, sorry. We always take the WAX from the airport to DT and strongly recommend it. Pick it up on the Zero Level, check the schedule, it costs $2 and takes about 25 min. Sorry again!

Awesome. Thanks guys. As of now I'm planning on coming in on a Sunday. So I guess the WAX timing is just a crap shoot with what time my plane arrives? How would the walk be from the bus stop to MSS? I will have my wife with me and I can hear the complaints now about hauling our luggage all the way down Fremont street.

Break even is about twenty five dollars worth of the wife's complaining. If you think she can do more than that in a ten minute walk then take a cab.

Like smerrian said, it's about 4-5 blocks. The WAX is your cheapest option, but catch a shuttle bus if you want door to door service. It will cost a bit more, but worth it to keep the Mrs happy. :wink2:

Tell her the fare will come out of HER gambling money and then let her decide mode of transportation. Or, you can do what I did and marry a man. They don't give you any shit because you can just give it right back to them.

Since divorce and marrying a man is more complicated and expensive than the 25 dollar Uber...I will probably just go with the Uber. Really appreciate the suggestion though haha

The fastest option (and marginally more than the bus) would be to download the Lyft app, but wait to complete the sign up until you land in Vegas. The promo code FAV50 (enter it in the payment section under promo/credit code) gives you $50 in free ride credits (5 rides where the first $10 is free) good for your first 14 days of signup. It might end up costing $7-8 after the code is applied but big deal. Plus, you'd be spending $4 on the bus for the 2 of you anyway.

Like others have said, the bus only runs once an hour so if you arrive right after one leaves, you are wasting an hour of your vacation standing around. You couldn't pay me to take the bus since Uber and Lyft arrived in town.

A shuttle would take longer and cost more than Uber/Lyft for 2 people.

Also keep in mind that the WAX bus picks up at BOTH terminals. One of the terminals has a small bus station outside and to the right of baggage claim. The other terminal's pick up spot is outside and to the left of the baggage claim area past the bus stop for the rental car building. I can never remember which is which until I walk outside.

I want to throw one more option out there. Go to http://www.belllimousine.com/. Select Limo Share-A-Ride. It's $38 round-trip to downtown and back, though of course you should tip. You might share your Town Car, Escalade or stretch limo with others, you might not. First gamble of the trip! :wink2:

This is the only way to go, imo. You no longer care what route they take, though the drivers are professionals and will do right by you. They'll email you when they are on the way to pick you up. You have to book and pay in advance, but it's worth it.
