I'm a slot player, but hoping to play a little VP at Aria and Cosmo later this week - I've been practicing online (JOB, BP, and DDB).

I plan to play quarter and dollar VP on casino floor but no bar top - are there any good VP machines that are NOT bar top?

Any favorites of yours you'd like to share and the general location?

    TIA

The row 802 BP super times pay machines by the M life desk at Aria should suit you. 802? Right? Some one will correct me if I am wrong.

    Yep, The Beeejay Memorial.

It's a few rows down from the Milf desk, if memory serves.

Thank you Fenway and thecarve - I've seen a post about the 'Beejay Memorial' but didn't pick up on where it was....I need to pay better attention... and thanks for the PIC as well!
Will look for those for sure!
We've played slots a few times at Aria near the mlife desk and had some luck there on several machines - that just might be the sweet spot in that casino...

Cosmo: The row of machines immediately east of CliQue has (as of early Jan) some decent STP and DSTP games for $1 (9/5 DDB) but I can't remember what the paytables were at a quarter.

Though, that row is "day only" for me - it gets SO loud when CliQue is busy.

The only time I got back to back quads was at McCarran...:evillaugh

But yeah, as fenway68 and thecarve mentioned, BeeeJay Memorial Row 802 is a very good choice. 8/6 Boner Deluxe and 9/5 DDB available for quarters+ with either STP or Double STP available.

Also there is Carousel 1107 across from the back of the poker room that offers the same games at Double STP for as cheap as nickels-quarters. It's on the gigantic, couple seating All Star II poker unit. Treated me well in Feb. for a hit and run, best nickel payback for the strip I'm aware of. It's 98.99% when playing the game pictured below. 2 quads within 5 minutes of each other.

But nothing compares to what the man himself hit in Row 802.

FYI, Boner Deluxe strategy is roughly this: High cards: Play like JoB. Straight Draws: Play like DDB.

    As for Cosmo:

Penny 98.91% Deuces on the 100-plays on the floor.
Dime 8/5 Bonus, 9/7/5 DB, and 9/6 DDB on those same 100-plays
7/5 Bonus with Double STP for quarters.
6/5 Bonus with Ultimate X for nickels+ (approximate strategy here: http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/ultimate-x/bonus-poker/)
9/5 DDB with STP for dollars
Regular single line 7/5 Bonus and 9/5 DDB should be available for dollars as well.

Note: All these games described above, except Ultimate X, you are allowed to adjust the number of the lines and still bet 5 (6 for STP/7 for DSTP) per line.

In response to the OP, can I ask why no bartops? Aria actually has pretty decent JoB (for the Strip) at the $1 level at Lift Bar and the others, although they recently downgraded the JoB from 9/5 to 8/5, which was a real shame. I've always done very well there, except for during the Super Bowl when I got my ass handed to me.

Thank you Yokel and tringlomane for the website reference and identifying the other machines at Aria and Cosmo - will definitely try as I many as I can.
If I get stuck, I have a cheat sheet and wizardofodds. I only have correct strategy memorized on the three I noted, so appreciate all the tips.
I'm a dyed in the wool slot player who has ventured into VP a little bit each trip; this trip I want to focus more on playing VP.

To 44inarow - yes you may ask - I don't play bartops because I'm a teetotaler - and I feel those spots are for folks who enjoy playing VP at the bar with a beverage.
Plus, I don't want anyone watching me if I mess up on VP - haha

I'm going to check this out this week. I played at this "alternate" location in December for quarters. It hadn't occurred to me to check to see if it had a different pay table for nickels than the machines on row 802.

I was mistaken. The machine I played in December was near the sports book, not the poker room and had the usual lower payout for nickels.

I was at Aria this morning and couldn't find the nickel machine in question. 1107 seemed to be occupied by a Luxury Diamond game. I may have checked every machine in Aria without success. Maybe it moved.

It's possible they could have got rid of it. I wouldn't expect a giant VP unit to get a lot of play. :( I couldn't find the one I saw at Orleans in August that had full pay 8/6 Jacks w/Ultimate X for 10-line nickels this last trip. :(

Was carousel 1107 all huge machines with couples seating? There should have been 4 units I think. I forget what the 3 slots were though.

Thanks everyone, I begin my 6 day VP quest tomorrow at Aria and ending at Cosmo - in between the food quests from my food post.

Irishdave: I feel the dark side pointing me towards that evil one....no promises.

Wow, that's really good for a Bar Top. I'm used to playing 6/5....thanks for that!!!

OP, have fun on your trip -- I'm excited for mine but it's so far away. And, lol, I just came from Vegas two weeks ago. Also, don't play the VP near the tour lobby / car rental entrance. Thing ate $50 bucks in ten minutes and I play DDB by the book. Well, you might have better luck than I did :)

Haven't stayed at Cosmo in over a year....but have been at Aria Twice this month.
Nobody asked what your Play level is?
Its a big difference between nickles & dollars stp, dstp, etc.
Personally I play dimes, 3/5 play Ult.X, so thats $3-5 spin. Theres only one or 2 of these in Aria, and hard to get on.

Where we had our best luck at Aria?

Single line quarter Prog. There are 2 banks of these.

    If over $1,400? PLAY

Spouse hit it for $1,400 something early April. When I returned mid April, I hit it for $1,700 something...

Can't tell you which machine cuz we moved around the banks & kept playing diff games.
Mine hit only holding a Jack! lol

    So THATS what I'd play.

We just added some brand new poker to the floor last week.

Triple Wheel Poker, Split Card Poker, and Powerhouse Poker.

All very fun, but something about Powerhouse Poker has me excited, could be the next Ultimate X.

I'm a big fan of split card poker at videopoker.com myself. Glad to see you give it a shot. It seems to be voted in as their weekly contest game quite a bit, so it hopefully will be a success for Cosmo! Overall, I think Cosmo has a nice balance of video poker game choices. It is one of my favorite places to play VP on the strip.

I am considering playing more video poker. I usually like to spend some time playing bar top VP in the afternoon before I get ready for dinner. I don't use basic strategy but usually play JOB by the seat of my pants. What game or games do you recommend for me to play and to start learning the basic strategy for?
