What are thoughts on this place? Mostly interested in maybe grabbing something to eat and maybe a beer. And definitely would like to try the homemade root beer. It looks somewhat interesting.

    Thanks

Lotsa EI thread here over the years, tons, in fact there's an active one going, I think it's on the Off-Strip board. Or just pop it into the search window.

Has an old school vibe, good food, the craft beers are good but could be a little colder though.

Very divided opinions on Ellis Island on this board. Some posters think it's the bees knees, while others (myself included) think it's a dump with an overblown rep. You pay your money and you take your chances.

Think Super 8 with a cheap Sizzler. If your into that then it's great.

I love this place. I am not a fancy foody person. If thats what you like that you wont like this place. But if you like outback or texas roadhouse then this place is on the same level. I love the small casino vibe and I have never had a bad meal there. My fiance loves that craft brewed root beer. They brew a few ales and their own root beer. This is his first stop and our last. If you like the $100 steaks that you get on the strip, then this place you might not like. I personally would never pay that kind of money for food, but that's just my opinion.

Ellis Island isn't for everyone. It's a low-roller joint. Decent gaming, decent food, good prices. Nothing fancy.

I think for people who think they've done and seen it all in Las Vegas, it's worth a trip. I'd rather go there for some drunken karaoke than to go back to the Double Down for Ass Juice and Bacon Martinis.

If you haven't been in a while... The place has been remodeled. It looks pretty good.

It's fine walking there alone from the strip?

    Thanks

We occasionally go over to the bar for karaoke and always have a good time there. I have never understood the appeal of the steak special or the BBQ, other than price point. I've tried both and neither were worth a repeat. The steak special at Hard Rock is in the same price range and better than EI imo though I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again either.

After seeing the photos of the kitchen a few years ago when they were shut down by the Health Dept inspectors, I wouldn't eat at EI again.

Assuming you're talking about walking the long block down Flamingo to Koval, it's desolate, but probably fine. I prefer not to walk, but getting a taxi back to The Strip from there can be a challenge. I walked it once, after dark and it's not terrible. I did prefer to walk on the "north" side of Flamingo because the side by the parking behind Bally's was spooky dark that night.

Stopped there for a bloody mary and lunch one Sunday last year. Thought the food was average and service below average. Way below average.

Good breakfast spot. Very reasonable prices, large portions. We walk many times usually only during day though. Always some "characters" along the way but have never been bothered by them.

If you like the beer, it's good that it's not too cold. Cold is for killing the taste of bad beer.

I think it's one of those places folks should consider doing once - if for no other reason you can answer inquiries " yep, I've been to Ellis Island". It will be either a 'once and done' or maybe become a favorite side trip for cheap draft beer, root beer, and a cheap but decent steak, with karaoke, and small casino.

We've walked from Bellagio to EI for breakfast along Flamingo to Koval with no problems - not sure I'd walk it at night because it is dark and uneven sidewalks - north side a bit better. We've also gone in the evening just to enjoy the karaoke and to get off the strip for a few hours (drove there at night). Everyone having a good time and some interesting interpretations and levels of talent.

Ask for their 'off menu' special for a cheap but good steak breakfast ( I think I read here on VMB they have a steak special at dinner, but not sure on that).

Then they are drinking cheap-ass beer after work. Decent craft beer should be served at cellar temp., not freezer temp. Any place that serves beer at a default 33 degrees or pours it into a frozen mug will never get any business from beer snobs.

Not to say that a ice cold Coors isn't welcome after mowing the lawn. But good beer Coors ain't.

Not sure who drinks "nice warm" wine.

To the OP: As you've certainly seen here and particularly if you've perused any of the 4,567 threads on EI, there is a Yankees/Red Sox divide on this matter. Hysteria is the commonality as the "apologists" seem to think any other piece of beef costing more than eight bucks is of course a wasteful lunacy and the "detractors" thinking those aren't grill marks rather whip marks from the jockey. Whom do you trust??? Sounds like if it interests you then you need to scratch that itch and not rely on others here.
