Slots Muted slot machines

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why so many slots are completely muted or set so low they might as well be?
It seems to me that great graphics and sound effects are a major part of why us suckers play!
Posting this after a recent trip to Binions for the obligatory free million dollar photo. While waiting I was delighted to find an old Shake Your Booty machine in the back of the casino only to find it muted. Disgusted, I left and luckily found a nice Texas Tea slot nearby.

 

I don't know the why, but I know I will walk away from any machine if there is no sound. I don't need it deafening, which can also happen sometimes, but I need some sound.

 

I was at my local the other night and they only have one Jewel of the Dragon machine, which I always have to play everytime I go. I was so frustrated the sound was off. It's no fun when you can't hear the loud sound when a bonus symbol appears. I usually won't play a machine with no sound but this is a special machine to me haha and I'm glad I stayed because I ended up leaving $100 richer using it. Not a huge win, but I didn't go home a loser

 

I've often wondered about this myself. It can only be 1 of 2 reasons.

1. The machine is Bustacated
2. To cut down on Noise Pollution

 

Yeah I think it's a mix of 1 and 2. The older a machine is, the more likely it's number 1. I've never bothered, but if the only machine you want to play doesn't have sound, you could always ask a slot attendant to change that, if it's not broken.

I rarely stay at muted slots or vp very long.

 

There's a volume button on the machines that you can press. It's on the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

This applies to all slot machines that I've encountered at CET

 

I don't play slots but the sound of them is great, I love it. Especially in the coin days with the loud hoppers. The reproduced sound of them isn't the same I suppose since they have proliferated over the years they had to tone the sound down a little bit

 

They actually override the sound control on some machines in the casino. Agreed, it's annoying.

All? Maybe a lot of the newer machines offer the option, but I'd think the older machines don't have the option readily available.

 

I know I am in the minority, but I will walk away from the blaring loud ones that I can't adjust. I hate all that continuous noise!

 

That's why I caveated, the ones I encountered. Some machines are finnicky I would imagine. My guess is the ones nearest a lot of foot traffic to be the ones where you can't really control the volume. I tried machines at Linq, Flamingo, Ballys, pH, and Paris and had no issue. Speaking of Flamingo, it was a surprisingly fun and lively casino. Ballys needs an overhaul lol but those darn Jubilee rooms have me coming back!

 

A whole lot don't-even some of the newer machines. The newer machines mostly seem to have the option or if not at least are set loud enough.

 

Not sure if you are in the minority but I also hate the blaring machines. Didn't know about the mute button but lots of times I put my slipper or shoe on the speakers to lessen the noise from the machine. While I don't want a completely silent machine I rather have that over a machine that is loud.

 

i hate silent machines too but the only time I've won a progressive on quickhits was on a machine that didn't have sound. I hit right after I sat down before I realized there was no sound. Took me a few minutes to realize I won something decent because of it.

 

I dont know why they do this either. I love playing a nice loud machine.

I have seen machines that were loud one day be muted the next. never understood that.

I played one so loud at cosmo a while back that people were moving away from me. loved that one!!

 

I for one turn the volume all the way up... I would never play a machine with no sound.. vp I can do but not slot.

I don't need sound. Just so it's not "club volume" or something.

I do like the machines that allow you to adjust it.

 

i play Keno and i LOVE when the sound is loud.

also, in my little mind, if the volume is all the way up, it increases my chances of winning

 

I also have wondered this for years but more for the video poker machines at the bars. They used to be loud but now it's hard to find any with any sound at all. I'm sure it was for the bartenders sanity but I would rather hear my machine than fall asleep playing a silent one.
