Tax the Wax bus to the airport, then hop on the car rental shuttle(free). total cost is 2bucks cash. I've done this. You do realize the car rentals are not on site at the airport?

We will be in the same situation in May. We hope to find a first-time-user promo for Uber or Lyft since we've never tried it. Seems to be plenty of promos now but it's too soon for us to sign up.

The WAX is an express bus that you pick up at the bus stop between Binions and Fremont. It makes a couple stops DT and then takes the freeway to Tropicana where it stops at the Trop and then goes to the airport--usually takes us 25min. Several busses stop at that bus stop, so be sure it says "WAX" on the head badge. Check the posted schedule at the Binion/Fremont stop because it only runs once an hour at most times of the day. At the airport, you will just follow the signs to baggage claim and then outside to catch the rental car facility shuttle. Fee for the WAX is $2/person, pay with exact change as you enter the bus.

Also note that there some car rental agencies located downtown. MSS has Advantage rent a car, you can rent from MSS and return your car at the airport facility. I think there is another agency located in a hotel on the FSE.

The WAX is a good idea if you don't have luggage (not bad with luggage also) and just want a quick, cheap way to get back to the airport from downtown. As mentioned, it only costs $2 and there aren't that many stops before you get back to the airport. Cheaper than a cab, uber or airport shuttles.

The WAX is definitely the way to go! $2 and it gets you there EXPRESS! Do check out the schedule located at the bus stop next to Binions casino (across the street from The Fremont casino).
Westcliff-Airport eXpress...going from the airport to the Suncoast via Downtown.
