I lost around $4k last month. My gambling budget is about $1k a month. So I'm going to take a break from gambling. Vegas local here. I have all these free play offers. Like $50 in free play and $25 free bet every week. I'm tempted to just go in and play those and leave but it would probably look bad to have no play. (Although last month I lost $1000 when I went in to "just" redeem $50 free play). Would you hit and run on the freeplays/comps. Or do you just let them go unredeemed? I've gone in just to grab free play. Usually it's $100+, so you will need to decide if your amounts are worth your time.
Just stay away. For now. You will always have offers. In a week, month or a year. For now stay away. Reason being, you will absolutely go in and lose the free play and more. Not worth the chance. You work too hard for your money.
For free play, I would have to be over $100 free and clear for me to feel compelled to go. I can play for a couple hours on that without touching my cash. But to me, it's pretty easy to pass on freeplay because it's freeplay. When those offers were for cash. I would feel more compelled to go even if it was to claim the case and not play (yes, that's bad for your rating!).
This may be a stupid question but when you get an offer that has free rooms and some freeplay. Can you just go to the casino and redeem the freeplay without actually booking the offer (ie. Hotel room)?
I guess I don't have a straight answer, Ive gotten offers for various things at different casinos and sometimes wont use a single one. Other times I have checked into free rooms just to take the soaps and shampoos. With freeplay I will usually play top dollar or WoF at a higher limit than normal just for fun. I guess I don't use them nearly like I should though.
Packer said it best about just staying away. Your situation dictates that. In my case, I haven't cared enough about my offers enough to not ruin them. For instance, I've rarely gotten freeplay offers from my local. In fact, this current stretch of about four months is the longest ever. Match play, though. When I got freeplay slot offers, and it was bankable, I would take that five dollars and pop in once or twice a week (it's minutes away) and bank it, then play it when we went for our normal night out. In two months it would dry up, then pop back for maybe $10 each period, then bounce back down to five. In AC, I roughly get $250-$300 (my current offers) in match or direct play from Borgata, Harrah's, and Caesars. Once, I made a last minute, unplanned trip to Borgata and did my match and little bit of slot play, and played way below normal. Next day, my comp rooms all but disappeared, but the match play hasn't stopped. Listen, I love comps, but I'm over being obsessed with how many points I earn. A couple of years ago I focused more on that than anything else. Now, I'm just about going to have fun more than ever, like it was when I started. If anything, I try to direct my play to multiplier days and such. But if it doesn't line up with the overall plans... Oh well. I'm still going.
Most places, no, they make you book the room to get the other components of the offer. However, I know for a fact that Cosmo doesn't make you book the room. We redeem my husbands free play just by taking the offer to the Identity desk and asking them to put his free play on his card. Four Queens and Binion's also don't make you book the room. The free play is pre-loaded onto your card at the beginning of the offer period and you can go in and use it whenever you want during that time. If you don't use it during that offer period it will fall off, but free play from any new offer you may have will then be loaded. So, basically, it will not accumulate from offer to offer period if you don't use it.
