I'm sure this has been asked 1,000 times and there are probably several threads about it, but I know that peoples opinions and tips change after time....

So, I've yet to be at a pool in Vegas for a stay as the times I've visited the pools were closed. This year I'm going on Memorial Day weekend and plan to hit the pool at Luxor.

So many questions I have as in....what do I wear to get to the pool? Do I just leave my room in my swimming trunks with a t-shirt on and a towel and head into the pool or should I plan to change when I get there? As in are their locker room areas to change in?

Are there lockers I can expect to rent or charge to the room to put stuff in like my phone and I.D.?

Also can I charge drinks to the room while at the pool?

I'm looking for any and all helpful advice on a novice first timer at the pool to make the experience as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

Its been several years since I went to that pool, but I don't recall any lockers. I always just wear the swimsuit and a tshirt or jersey down to the pool area, whichever hotel I am at.

Yes, you can charge drinks to your room.

No need to take a towel either. They'll have them at the pool.

If you're staying in a tower room you don't even have to go through the casino to hit the pool. It's a set of doors in the hallway that connects the towers to the pyramid. I've never been either but the pool was actually still open when I went a year ago in October!

Just put on your swimming trunks and a t-shirt. Bring your sunglasses and sun tan lotion and just enjoy the pool. If you want to charge drinks to your room, bring your ID because they'll ID you before they'll charge anything to the room. The vibe at the Luxor pool is quite nice:

Here's a little video we shot last year:

Yeah they don't want you to take a towel out of your room, they have them at the pool. It's not among the best pools in Vegas but there are worse. And since you haven't been to any of them you'll enjoy it just fine.

UK's recollection is the same as mine. And I agree with vegasvic about the overall quality of the pool; you can do far worse than Luxor. It's a big area and nicely landscaped, and while it's no Mandalay Beach, I prefer it to, say, the Venetian's and Cosmo's pool decks.

Since they redid it, its not a bad little pool. I wear my trucks and a tank top when I head down. Like others have posted, they have towels waiting for you. But dont wait until you get wet for a towel. Grab a couple as soon as you get in. Toss the towel over a lounge chair and tuck your room keycard into your shoe. Hide that under your chair and leave the towels folded on top.

Don't mess up the towels when you toss them on your chair! I have seen workers grab messy towels and walk off with them assuming people left them behind. If you want to order drinks bring your ID and leave that in your shoe as well.

Also, there are flasks that look like suntan lotion! Take that and you won't have to buy as many drinks at the pool. They will be quite expensive!

We've been using those flasks for a long time :) They have them as suntan lotion and also regular hand lotion (for when you are going somewhere not in the sun) :)

All great, valuable information. It is greatly appreciated. I plan to hit the pool early Saturday when they allow me to check in. I see early check-in is $10 extra and if available at 11:00am. I did request early check in, so hopefully they have a room ready and I can head right to the pool. My travel companion has started to plant the seeds of doubt on the trip which I sort of figured so I may change my reservation to a king room at check-in if I can. I arrive in Vegas at 7:30am and plan to check in and at the least leave my luggage with the bell hop. My last check-in at MGM in December was at 8:00am and they actually had a room available on the 19th floor. I'm hoping the early arrival/check-in will bode well once more, especially since it's a holiday weekend.

Thanks for the heads up on not having to go through the casino to get to the pool. This is my first time in Vegas while the pools are open so I was not sure how I should go about approaching walking through the hotel, casino, etc. to get to the pool. Good to know I can go right from the room to the pool.

I'm looking forward to it and will have a (hopeful) live trip report of the stay on Memorial Day weekend.

We have gone there the last 8 years and if you want a free "chair" as they call them get there early. From May-Sept they have a VIP section where they charge for "chairs" , beds and cabanas. It was I think $15 for standard one. $60 for cushioned ones some with and with out umbrellas, $100 day bed and $200 cabana. Prices went up on weekends also. They did give a bucket of ice and water with the cushioned beds and up. Less crowded in VIP section. Hope this helps.

Yes this does help! Thanks ffmjk067. I will be arriving at 7:30am on Saturday the 28th and hoping they will have a room available at that time. If they don't then I will just wait until they have one at 11:00am (hopefully) and hit the pool then. I am sure I will have to pay since it's a holiday weekend and sure to be busy, especially on a Saturday morning.

One question that I do have is if they allow small bluetooth speakers to listen to while lounging in your chair or is that not allowed? I plan to bring my UE Megaboom to listen to tunes while in the room but would like to listen to music while at the pool since I'm likely going solo. I may just have to bring my ear pieces if not.

I'd recommend your own personal headphones. Most of the pools on the strip are going to have music going at a more than generous volume. Either way, hope you have a blast!! :)
