    My Trip Report

Just wanted to give a quick trip report with some highlights and observations. Hats off to you all who do these things live!

    Vegas Trip #26
    Excalibur 3/29-4/2, Budget 1K/day

Day 1 - I arrived at 10:30PM – a little over 4 hours drive time, as I parked I thought this might be the last freebee parking spot I get – my next trip is in August and I believe they are supposed to have paid parking at the MGM properties by then. Rolled my bag through the entrance and got a whiff of that odd perfumy/boozy/smokey smell that only Luxor and Excalibur have – I loved it! 5 minute check-in, up to the room – not bad, better than my last Excalibur stay where I had a view of the HVAC equipment through a filthy window (which was perfect since I was with my brother-in-law where 2 beds in a closet would suffice). Did some slots – Walking Dead, Bier Haus, Big Bang, lost about $200 and then turned in at about 2AM

Day 2 – Craps at Excalibur at 7AM, won $35 then headed to NYNY to America diner for lox and bagels (love it when a quick win more than pays for breakfast). I entered the Luxor Poker tournament at 10:30, won $60 playing Walking Dead waiting for the tournament to start. I was the first one out of the tournament (we had 18 players) – went all-in with a pair of 9’s, was called with an A-K, guy paired his Ace on the river. Oh well, my Walking Dead win covered the $45 buy in! I hit the pool for about an hour – I had to remind myself ‘this is the Excalibur’ each time a kid jumped into the Jacuzzi with a float toy. Got a $24 Pina Colada using my resort credit.

Went to the Oyster Bar at Harrah’s for a late lunch – one of my favorites. Then headed downtown – I checked out the Plaza for the first time ever… not bad, they had Blackjack tables right in front of the window facing Fremont. Dealers were hot gals in skimpy outfits – tables were $5 minimum paying 3-2. I played for a couple of hours and lost about $50 but as always had a great time. There are still good $5 tables downtown for those of you like me who like the $5-10 minimum tables. Played craps and slots at El Cortez (one of my all-time favorite places to play). Headed back to Excalibur and played slots for while more, ended the day down about $350 (gambling, food, drinks, misc.). Turned in about 1:30AM

Day 3 – Up at about 7AM – craps at Excalibur then I hit the breakfast buffet (figured I’d try to burn the rest of my resort credit). I passed on the pool this day and went to look for a blackjack table but saw a Let-It-Ride table and figuring that a decade had passed since I last played that game I thought I’d give it a try. I know from a casino edge stand point this is not the best game but it was fun. The pace is fairly slow and I walked away with about $50 after about 2 hours of play and many free beers. I then played a few slots and decided to walk up the strip a bit. The weather was perfect for walking, about 70 degrees so I had no problem taking a very slow and long walk all the way up to Encore (I hit about a half a dozen casinos in between – and had at least a beer in each as I played slots). I took a cab to get back – and I played a bunch of VP at the Lobby Bar in Excalibur (I realized sometime during my walk up the strip that this was going to be the ‘Get Drunk Day’). About 2AM I decided one more round of Bier Haus, double or nothing on $50 in. (that could take 5 minutes or 2 hours). In the first 10 spins I hit a 65 spin bonus, 4 sticky wilds, during the bonus I get 25 more spins and 2 more sticky wilds. After all is said and done I win $450 on a 40 cent bet! So I get a second wind and gamble for another 2 hours, the big Bier Haus win puts me up about $500 for the day – in bed about 4:30….

Day 4 – Vegas hangover. My friend calls me about 8AM, while the phone rings I’m looking around the room wondering ‘where the hell am I?” “oh, yeah, I’m in Vegas! And I’m hungover!” After I’m done talking to her I take 2 alka seltzer and go back to sleep for another 3 hours… back up at 11:30 and I feel just about normal again. Craps at Excalibur (when I stay at Luxor/Exc/NYNY that is always the first thing I do each day). Lunch at Ri Ra in Mandalay Bay, Shepard’s Pie and a Guinness. Back to the pool, it’s Friday, lots of people arriving, lots of kids in the pool – after 2 drinks I’m done. I head out and decide to check out the spa which is near the pool entrance. I decide to get a facial (a friend once told me it’s the best thing to do when hungover, although I feel ok now). Nice spa – this is only the second one I’ve been in. Spent an hour in the Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna – I’m the only guy there – after the facial I’m like ‘this was the greatest thing ever’ I walk out of the place with a second wind thinking ‘WTF – I’m in Vegas, time to go at it again!’ Anyway I do some shopping for the kids and friends and back to Harrah’s to the Oyster Bar, oysters and seafood risotto, the best – when I’m done it’s about 8PM and I realize that I’m getting tired – enough with the second wind stuff; I’m ready to wind it down and get a good night’s sleep for the drive home in the morning. Down $700 for the day (mostly from shopping and spa) – I know, doesn’t sound manly but still fun!

Day 5 – up at 6AM, down to the casino at 6:45 – I put one last hundred in a Wheel of Fortune machine, get down to about $75 and then spun the wheel for a 200 win ($50) – so with a $25 profit I take the gas money for the ride home and I call it a wrap on Trip #26!

Overall as usual a great trip – lots of gambling, lots of eating and drinking (especially Day 3!) and well under budget – I will roll that over for the next trip…. I’m already excited about August – that trip will be with family and should be just as great as this solo one!

You packed a lot of stuff into #26 - thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed your TR - kinda like the old Dragnet tv show "just the facts, ma'm' - lots of info in a small space.
What's up with the $24 Pina Colada - or is that the going rate these days?

Laughed at the "where the hell am I?"; that is me waking up on my first morning in Vegas. I always overdo it Day 1 and am always happy when I realize I'm waking up in Vegas.

I once hit big on LIR at Luxor with 4 A's followed by 3 full houses in a row....around $8K as I recall so I usually play it once every trip. Have never hit more than a couple grand since but I find it is a slow grind and usually a fun group at the table so what the heck.

Time to start planning for August. Thanks for sharing your trip report.

Nice Report. I've also been exactly 26 times soon to be 27.
I stayed at Excal 2X in 2006. I find it to be a little too smoky.
Which Spa did you go to?

Yeah just the one day with going overboard - I usually have a drink going at all times but I pace myself... I found that bouncing back at 52 doesn't work so well as when I started to go in my mid 30's!!.... 10 hours sleep, alka seltzer and Pedialyte seems to be the cure these days - years ago the cure was to not stop until the trip was over! I didn't see the 6/5 machine - I accept horrid paytables at the bar machines, I'm there for the free drinks and BSing with whoever is sitting near - although they charged me for my Don Julio, but they were like triple shots!

El Cortez is the best - I always end up spending the good part of at least one day per trip there... I find something cool about looking outside through that weird yellowish glass they have on the doors as I stroll through the slots or sit at one of their $5 double deck games... and it's still 3/2..... not to mention $3 craps most of the time....
