Too cheap to pay the Coinstar fee and my bank doesn't have a change machine. Rolling it all was an exercise that taught me not to procrastinate so much or for so long.

July LV trip is already saved up for and this, along with win from last summer, is for a week at V/P over thanksgiving.

I understand the potential of being short changed or the feeling you are getting ripped off by paying a fee, but what is your time worth? I know my hourly rate including what I make plus my family time and I am glad to allow someone else do the counting for me.

Either way that's a lot of bottles of Jack to drink hopefully you had fun draining them and now have fun after filling them.

Lady friend manages a restaurant and she brought the bottles home. First it was little bottles of Patron and then I finally had to use the bigger Jack bottles. Oddly enough the only time I drink is when I'm in Vegas.:beer::beer:

I sort of do the same thing...You see I sometimes frequent a nearby corner tavern and enjoy a few cold draft beers @ $1.50/glass. I pocket the .50 change. When I get home I put the change, 99% quarters, in a ceramic pitcher. I'll be rolling the contents in a week or 2 for my May trip. I suspect I'll have $200 or so as an added supply for our enjoyment<--- Actually it will be my "go To" stach for when the wife shows up with her hand out and her Boo Boo face pouty lipped moaning I am broke...just saying :)

Carve, was that you about a year or so ago who had a post about your dad or father-in-law filling a bottle with change and having a contest to see who could guess closest to the amount in the bottle?

Here's the breakdown: A JD bottle holds $300 in quarters, $300 in dimes, $75 in nickels and $25 in pennies. (Kind of cool how the volume filled came out to those amounts) All told all of this, along with a bottle of dimes that wouldn't fit on the shelf (I was afraid the weight of these bottles would cause the shelf to break), came in to a little less than $1750. Rolling it wasn't near as bad as getting it to the bank.....it weighed more than one would think.

I have a change jar (actually a 12"X12"X26" ceramic pig) that I have stuffing for at least ten years. It is almost completely full and too heavy for me to even move now. I had a new hip put in this past Monday and one way I plan to pass my down time is to finally roll some of this change. It is all nickles, dimes and quarters. I rolled up all my pennies two years ago when I fell off a ladder and broke my right tibia into five pieces. I eventually hand rolled $550.00 worth of pennies. That works out to 55K pennies that passed thru my hands. But it was all good since I basically just watched football and rolled coins for a month or so. This silver money will serve as my gambling stake when I move down to the MS Gulf Coast (and their casinos) later this year.

That was me. I appreciate the inside info! I'll have to check out dad's stash this weekend when I'm over there for his b-day. Maybe I'll be able to win a few bucks for my July trip.

(I thought for sure that I already responded to this post...maybe time to start watering down the post dinner cocktails )

i love the reuse of the Jack bottles!

we've been saving change for about a year for our 25th anniversary trip to Vegas. So far the bank is at almost 6000 dollars. Most of it's been change.
my husband has been buying what i call '5 dollar sodas' at work. He puts in a 5 dollar bill for the canned soda, and the change goes in the Vegas bank LOL.

we did manage to fill the big water jugs (5gal?) and we rolled it all up and took it to the bank. (took about 4 or 5 trips)

Damn I would not have guessed anywhere close to $1750.

Seems like that would take decades.

It's a great idea that doesn't really cost anything. I do the same with my small coins at the end of the day. Into a big jar.
Last trip over 1200 dollars (800 pounds uk).
Always nice to have one off budget spends.

    That's brilliant, lol.

Normally I would say take it to coinstar and get a fee-free amazon gift card, but I wouldn't be able to spend $1750 at amazon, it would take me years. Vegas is a much better use - better to gamboooool than wait a week for random stuff in a cardboard box.

Wow.....nice bankroll. And I am absolutely impressed that you actually rolled all those coins.

Luckily, the banks in my area still have the coin counters and there is no charge for the service. I start filling my change jar right after each August trip and cash it in right before we leave. It usually is around $500-$600. For some reason, it is almost full already.
image.jpeg . P.s. Vodka bottle placed only so you can gauge the size of change jar..... also I like vodka.

My change jar money is totally my mad money in Vegas....big bj bets, dollar slot machines, etc.

Again....wow on rolling all those coins!

P.s. Ignore the upside down photo.....haven't had enough coffee yet to try to fix it.

This is the downside of not using cash for anything anymore.

Used to come home from work every day with something to throw in the bowl and usually had at least $100 - $150 extra for each trip.

I don't even remember the last time I cashed out, and I doubt there's even $20 in there now.

No holes in my pants pockets, though, I guess that's something.
