First time we will stay downtown ever in our lives ever, and we have to move to NYNY on Sunday. But Friday and Saturday at the end of the month we finally! get to stay downtown Vegas and see what the hype is about.

Looks like maybe the Golden Nugget and Plaza have some decent pool options, and the search I did yielded mixed results, so I am trusting the trusted fellow VMB'ers with some advice.

And like I said, it is our first time staying downtown ever (and 3rd or 4th time in Vegas overall), so any other advice is certainly welcomed.

    Thanks!

Golden Nugget is heads and shoulders the best but it gets crowded; you'll need to get there early to get a lounge chair. DTG is pretty decent. The Plaza isn't going to be done with their remodel until later this summer - date unknown. Have a great trip. :peace::beer:

I would agree with this. If you were going to be the only people at the pool, the Golden Nugget pool would win, but it is always INSANELY crowded. Huge turnoff for me. DTG pool and their entire pool deck is very nice.

Yes the pool deck at GN is physically nicer, but they priced out some of the downtown regulars. Truth be told if a pool was the number one reason for my Vegas trip I would not stay downtown. It would be Mandalay Bay.

The GN shark tank slide is the main reason the pool gets rave reviews, that and the cocktail servers. I found the upper pool deck overcrowded but I liked GN poolside bad odds gaming. From the value position I like DTG and that's why it edges GN out.

With the new Citrus branding I think they gave the place a cool funky vibe. I just hope they fixed the food service since it was lacking.

Best pool is at GN. DTG is an option, but it's underwhelming IMO.
I do agree with everything mentioned above - if you don't like crowds but want a nice place to relax poolside, DTG is fine, but it's not going to resemble anything on the strip. GN has the resort feel (and prices to go along with it).

Golden Nugget pool is pretty nice. Pay extra $ if you want to get away from the crowds.

If you want a neat experience, I always tell people about the Binion's rooftop pool for guests of Four Queens -- pretty cool. Check out pictures online.

If you stay at a downtown property like we are...all you do is show your room key at DTG and you can use their pool...nice area and good food for lunch and great deals on booze while sitting by pool

The pool on the top of binions isn't as busy as the GN pool. And you get to stay at the 4 queens, not as expensive as a stay at the GN.

But it also depends on what you want. If you want peace and quiet and not a busy atmosphere then you can use the pool at the Cal. It isn't very large, no drink service (or real pool service) and it usually isn't very busy so you don't have to go early to get a good chair or have to put down a towel to reserve your chair. Because the pool is shielded by the old LVC it is usually cold even in the summer. Guests at MSS and maybe Fremont can also use the pool at the Cal, you just have to ask the front desk for a key card to get into the pool area.

Yes your correct on Fremont guests using pool at the Cal...just have to bring your room key to check in area and show it..then they give you a pool key for that day as it's changed out daily..its a small pool but for some it does the job

The only thing I can add is the GN pool is at ground level with glass windows on 3 sides but the DTG pool is on the roof of the casino so it's not like being in a fish tank.

The other negative about DTG pool is it gets hot as hell up there. No natural or man made barriers blocking sun. It is a full sunlight pool deck and almost unbearable in full sunlight for a couple hours.

You sure about that Loverboy? You can use the Cal pool when staying at Fremont or MSS, but I never heard of Downtown Grand allowing that. Why would they?

Yes, also curious if you can use the Grand pool showing a CAL key. Last trip we stayed at the Downtown Grand for the first part of our trip and the rest at our home casinos, the CAL. We absolutely loved the Grand pool. (Although the CAL pool also works for us.....never crowded.)
