Advice - Nugget, Grand, D or Main Street?

Same price essentially for Carson Room (Golden Nugget), Panoramic Deluxe Room (The D), Downtown Grand room and Main Street Station room. I spend little time in my room, but I like to sleep (good bed, quiet enough, decent bathroom). Suggestions? Ones to stay away from? Thanks. Bob

 

Can't see MSS being same price as others. Don't forget resort fees at all but MSS. Watch out for Boyds to run their summer special in next 1-2 weeks.

 

MSS has the smallest bathroom. The DTG has, in my opinion, the best pool as the Nugget's gets very overcrowded. MSS has the overall best gambling. The Carson room, which, I believe is in the South tower, is a pretty good hike from the casino and Fremont St. I have stayed in all of them and I think that quality wise, the DTG, D panoramic, and Carson rooms are all pretty similar.

 

I just got back from staying at The D and highly recommend it. However what I will advise you is that the "panoramic view" is a bit of a rip-off. To make a long story short, they tried to "upgrade" me to a "panoramic" room - but that only means it's on a higher floor. Yes, seriously. No bigger window, no better view, nothing.

Other than that, very comfy bed - nicely kept room and common areas. All furniture is American made too, FWIW. All staff were pleasant and easy to deal with.

Go for a Premium Corner King at The D. High floors with a real panoramic view, although the wrap will hurt. If you can deal with music noise, a regular Corner King on one of the higher floors of the lower tower is also pretty good. You will get band and Viva Vision noise.

 

I'd say go with the Nugget. They are nice rooms and you are, as stated, more than a little ways from all the noise.

 

How old are you bob? IMHO the D atmosphere is more for the younger crowd (that likes loud music and scantily clad dealers.

MSS is more for the older mellower crowd. Lots of Hawaii people though. The crap tables offer 20x odds so is very popular with the gamblers. MSS is away from the FSE though so you have a 5 minute walk to get to the rest of the "action".

The GN (again IMHO) is more for the "upscale" crowd with higher minimum tables.

The DTG is away from the FSE and isn't very crowded most of the time so if you don't like crowds then the DTG is a good place to stay and play. The pool is nice if that is what you look for.

As others have mentioned, while you say that those hotels are all similarly priced MSS doesn't charge a resort fee so is usually cheaper than the other hotels you mention. GN, DTG and D all charge resort fees so you are paying around an extra $20 to $30 a night for your room there.

When you do ask for a room at the D and GN you should ask for a room facing away from the FSE so you don't have to hear the noise and music when you are in your room.

 

I'm more in the older than younger crowd ... I have stayed at MSS and did like it. I already went with The D so will ask for a room away from Fremont Street.

Ugh..Unless you really like The D casino, I would pass on the room. Even the Carson tower with its older furnishings are going to be a higher quality room then The D (Don't forget Steve Wynn and Roger Thomas designed these rooms).
The bathrooms in The D have cheap counter tops and cheap toilets that wobble. The furnishings while look nice in pictures are cheaply assembled and Days Inn / Walmart quality.

Contrast that to GN where you have marble in the baths, higher quality headboards and furniture, and a completely nicer property (yes its a hike from Carson tower).

DTG is going to be newer room furnishings and boutique style hotel (They got these from the Fontainebleau las vegas furniture sale) but about the same size as The D for base room).

I can't comment on MSS since I have never stayed there.

I would rank the rooms as follows

Carson Tower - GN
DTG - Base Room
The D - Panoramic Deluxe.

The only way I would pick The D would be if I was getting a significant discount on the room rate or I knew I was getting a suite upgrade.
