Golden Nugget Resort Fee Now $25 Plus Tax

When we stayed in December the resort fee was $20 plus tax, so $22 and change a night. Just saw that it's now $25 plus tax, so over $28 a night. Ridiculous! That's full-on strip level (though some of those are now $30+). I guess occupancy in Vegas hotels really has rebounded well. Even at their cheapest email rates for those of us who don't get real player discounts ($39) that makes a weeknight at the Nugget almost $75 all-in. They sure have gone all in since their "no resort fee" pledge and their $5 "Fremont Experience" fee.

 

BALLS!!!

Some people will undoubtedly say, "Well even with resort fees Vegas is cheaper than _______________". And they'd be right...except that's not the point.

Imagine going to Mexico and paying $5 for a Corona, at a resort. You could say, "Well it's cheaper than any other bar back home, and I get to sit on the beach!" And again, (depending on your home bar prices) you'd be right. But again that wouldn't be the point.

Part of what makes Vegas attractive is the inexpensive room, much like what makes Mexico attractive is the all inclusive. Take that away, or start to limit it...and the very thing that had some drawing power is now lost.

 

Got an offer in my e-mail. I put in the two nights and it gave me a price with tax but didn't mention the resort fee. No wonder it came out so low. Other hotels add the cost at the bottom.

Joe that was their original "resort fee", $5 for their participation in the canopy. I don't know what they are charged but all the hotels kick in to operate the "fremont experience". that includes not just the light show but the bands, cleaning, etc.

 

DownTown Grand and I think the Plaza and El Cortez do not participate in FSE

 

They don't participate because they aren't part of the canopy area. The Plaza gets some action from it since they are close, but they aren't under it. Even more so for ElCo and the DTG. They certainly don't receive the benefit of those in the public areas. The FSE area draws people, but in all my trips to LV, I've never known anyone going DT to see the canopy. It's usually, "Let's go DT to play and while we're there............"

The first time we went downtown, part of the reason was the canopy. It was something everyone said we had to see. We then started looking for other things to do while we were there. Now that I've seen it, I'm not particularly motivated to stay and watch the shows. I realized what a pickpocket opportunity it was and I ended up watching everyone around me more than looking up.

 

Yeah, I agree with this post. I suspect that the number one reason most people visit the FSE, at least at first, is to see the canopy light show. Downtown absolutely has tons of options across the board for gaming, drinking, eating and some good live bands but IMHO the canopy is the drawing card that gets the vast majority of first time FSE visitors downtown.

Good point about pickpockets. I get in the habit of keeping my wallet in my front pocket and put my hand in my pocket when I'm negotiating the strip or Fremont St.

 

One time someone handed my son a folded up piece of paper. He started to open it and I told him to throw it down. I suspected they wanted his hands tied up so they could snatch his wallet out of his pocket. Now he knows to always keep his hand on his wallet.
