Hi all, pretty new to the boards and enjoy reading about the VP. I have a question about my history/statistics on the VP app I have on my phone. I practice a lot trying to learn proper strategy and think I play basic strategy pretty well. But I notice something that just does not seem right based on odds or payback.

    I have played 19,620 hands and I hit more Full Houses (219 times - .011percent), then Flushes (208 - .010), then straights (196 - .009)

This seems backwards, as the Full House pays more, then flush, then straights. One would think you should hit more straights, flushes, then Full houses? Is it I am not following proper rules, or by keeping pairs it keeps you from getting flushes and straights? I have always wondered this, thanks for any insight.

Still no Royal Flush by the way!

Yeah, since strategy leads to more holds of pairs, 2 pairs, and trips, full houses are actually the most probable final hand of the three.

For long-term optimal play in 9/6 JoB, all three are in the 1.1% range in terms of probability.

    Full House 0.011512
    Flush 0.011015
    Straight 0.011229

You're running pretty poor on straights though. You're roughly in the 5th percentile for straights after that many hands.

And save the Royal for the casino! :wink2:

Thanks Tinglomane! I typically only keep 4 to an open ended straight of any kind. I think this is basic strategy but wonder if I need to play more hands that require an inside straight draw to get my straights back in line?

In JoB if you have inside straights with 3 high cards (e.g. AKQT or KQJ9), that is better than unsuited high cards. So if you aren't making those holds in those spots that may be a reason you're a little short on straights. But it's mostly poor luck in that category I'd think.

I would just keep practicing correct strategy on the software you're using and not really worry about the actual results.
