Got an email recently saying that I've been pre-approved for the TR Visa. Even though I only make it out to Vegas about once a year, from what I've read it seems like a no-brainer to go through with it.

    PROS:

    - Platinum status (I am aware that this doesn't carry the weight it once did [resort fees])
    - Two free buffets (upgrade charge for Bacchanal & Village Seafood - anyone know how much that is?), two High Roller tix, or a one-night stay at an Atlantic City Property
    - 10,000 Reward Credit bonus for spending $750 within the first 90 days (easy enough)
    - No annual fee

    CONS:
    - Counts as a credit inquiry?

Again, unless I'm missing something this seems like a no-brainer. I plan on spending enough to get the 10,000 RC bonus, but not much more than that. I always pay off the full balance on my cards each month.

Can anyone find a reason to talk me out of moving forward with this?

I've got the card and enjoy it.
The other plus is your points will never go away if you use the card regularly.

I recently got the card just be aware. You must charge 5,000 a year to keep your Platinum status. Also the double points for grocery stores advertised is not always given it depends on how the store is "coded". I am still trying to figure out what I get double points for and what I don't. I only charge things that are suppose to count for 2x points and have yet to get an entire month of double points.

I can't remember what the up charge was for The Bacchanal buffet but I felt it was well worth it.

If you are signing up just for the sign up bonus, there are a dozen other credit cards that offer better upfront perks. AA, UA, southwest as well as multiple hotel credit cards.

Fair point. I got the Southwest Visa about 2 yrs ago (received 50,000 points for hitting their 3-month spend target), but I'll look into those other options as well.

I have maybe 20-30 credit cards in the drawer. Most are because I get lots of miles and can fly internationally. Also have a free companion pass on Southwest.

We do not have the Total Rewards card. The money "earned" is only good at CET and we either will use points from play or cash when there.

Yes, all those "approved" offers you get, they will still do a hard credit pull. A few here and there are not a problem. But each one adds up.

The upcharge for Bacchanal was $30 for dinner (total for 2, not per person). We just did it in November. Lunch was $25 and breakfast was $15 I believe. I don't know what Rio Seafood up charge is.

I have one and use it in primarily in Vegas and A/C( 3 trips a year total.) To me it's worth it.

If Canadians could get this card I would have gotten it years ago. Wish they'd change that...

I got the card a couple years ago. Back then it was worth it as the platinum level actually meant something. I had about $150 in RC's built up & would use my card every few months to keep them from expiring. Well, when I looked at my balance a few weeks ago, all my RC's were gone. After numerous phone calls and run-arounds, I was told that simply using my card was no longer enough to keep the RC's from expiring (even though their website says so). According to the TR manager I spoke with, ss I had not been to a CET casino for over 6 months, all my RC's expired and using the TR CC is no longer a valid way to keep them. She mentioned that it has something to do with cutting debt in their bankruptcy. When I pointed out that both the TR website and the TR CC website both state that the use of the card is enough to keep your points, she stated that the bankruptcy overrules everything.

I have had one for a couple of years. Just got back from Laughlin where I used the comps in the coffee shop. I have a $300 comp balance and a letter to turn in for additional benefits. One thing you may consider. Can you get a credit card that pays more than .01 per $1.00 that would give additional benefits?

I had only gotten the card for the platinum status and promotional RC's. I only would use the card once every few months - just enough to keep the points and status active. I have plenty of other CC's that I use daily with much better benefits.

I just redeemed social reward points last week and it said my points expire July 1 2016. So it did push the expiration back six months? Maybe one of the experts on here can chime in to give us the gospel.

Canadians can get the card. You just have to call and have them process the application over the phone rather than online!

I've never had any issue losing RCs. Using the card has kept my balance up. I'm sitting at 48,000 reward credits now and my expiration date changes each time I make a purchase and RCs are credited.

There's currently an offer floating around for 20,000 RCs when you open the card. I know this because I got the offer some days ago. Knowing me, I probably deleted the offer but if you're on the fence I'd call Commenity (the underwriter) and ask. Worst case, they say no.

Edit: found the email. It expires on April 16th and you need to spend $1,750 within 90 days. The 1750 can't be at a TR property. Pretty easy to do that, not to mention that you'll end up with 217.50 worth of spending after the fact. If you frequent CET properties, I don't see why not. Especially since it's essentially 1% / 2% / 5% cash back structure (essentially).

More info: there's no unique code for the offer so just tell them you got an email and call the total rewards credit card number. PM me if you can't find it and I'll provide the phone #

I say that makes this worth it and essentially pays for another trip to Vegas! Yippee!!!
