I was talking with a couple casino host friends and the consensus is that an overwhelming majority of our communication with players nowadays is through text.

Here's a common scenario is 1) initial text exchange talking about possible dates to visit XYZ casino and offers available 2) player forwards flight itinerary via email 3) final room confirmation and any other details sent to player via email 4) most other correspondence leading up to or during trip via text.

I'm curious how you guys communicate with your hosts? Which method(s) do you prefer (maybe it changes based on type of request)? Where do you get the quickest response?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!!

I communicate with my main Vegas host through email and phone. We've never texted. He's always quick to respond regardless of the method.

I do like texting and I think it's a great tool for communication in the host-player relationship. I have a host at one of the locals that texts about everything. It makes it so much easier than phone calls. Sometimes there are things I hear from him on that I need to check schedules and things to find out if I can or cannot do. A text rather than a phone call gives me a couple of minutes to gather my information on to be able to decide whether or not it is something that I can do. With a live phone call, if I am not certain of my availability and not immediately sure of my interest I am more likely to politely decline.

My Vegas host, email only which is totally fine by me. My host has never made an attempt to actually reach out and introduce himself in person to me while I've been in Vegas which I find odd. My Atlantic City host also by email but he has approached me several times while there. My host at the Horseshoe in Cleveland is the only one who calls me on a monthly basis with offers and invites.

I have always communicated by phone with ours, I actually loathe the text tag game even with just friends and family let alone business or travel and have a rule after three texts I am calling as I find you can usually get something done speaking in person in half the time the text game takes.

For Vegas it's been email only and that's been good enough. But for a local place it's both email and phone calls.

That's a great point! I hadn't thought of the fact that phone can cause a quick "no" because it's putting someone on the spot. Thanks for that insight.

You can definitely get a lot more done in a shorter period of time through phone. Only downside is you're often engaged in a long game of phone tag. Some players find text/email better simply because it's the only way they can get a response! What percentage of time would you say your host answers when you call? What's the typical response time between you leaving a VM and your host calling back?

That's really interesting. So when it comes to Caesars, do you generally just email when an appealing offer comes in that you want to come in for? If they aren't being proactive, what's the trigger that's getting you to email them?

For the Horseshoe host (sounds like a go-getter), do you find the offers he calls you with are tailored to you (i.e. He knows you like tournaments, or bands that are coming that he knows you like) or is it more along the lines of, "here's how much free play you have waiting for you..." Either way, that's good that he's taking the initiative. Do you find yourself taking more trips there because of the host's efforts?

For my current host I've only used email.

Previous host was email, phone, and a few times text.

Is email only your choice or dictated by the host? From a player perspective, I'm curious what would be your ideal means of communicating with your host. Could be different channels for different requests. Or if email only is what you like, that's cool too.

I used to email mine but would take forever to hear back, if at all. I text now and its almost immediate or definitely same day.

When I previously had a host (in Reno) it was always email...but if shit was wrong, it was an immediate text. (Because this casino had no IT support to speak of, therefore she didn't have any form of communication while she was on the casino floor, OTHER than her personal cell phone)

My preference. I like to email with all the details of my trip at once. I think its easier for him if everything is written down. However it can be up to a week before I get a reply.

My host and I communicate through Facebook and text messages. We always hang out together and go to dinner at least once on trips and visit her nightly in the high limit when she is working. I truly like my host :)

I had a host like that. We'd do dinner and stuff together. I miss her.

I'm glad you brought up Facebook. I actually thought about putting FB on the poll. As the Facebook Messenger app grows in popularity, I bet more people will communicate with their hosts that way.

I think when I'm setting something up, I use email.
If I'm actually in Vegas and trying to meet up, I'll use text to get a more immediate response.
