Table Games Well I suck... Pai Gow Poker

I have been practicing a LOT online and I know how to play. So I decided to go to my local casino to practice with real $. Ugh. The tables here start at $20.00 minimum. $20.00! WTH?

It was St.Patrick's Day so it seemed reasonable to drink copious amounts of alcohol. Right? Common sense and all.....yeah right. I actually screwed up a couple of hands. Grrrrr!

Man I blew it. I played for about 2 hours and lost $120.00. (I'm a low roller - baller, whatever it's called) I wasn't supposed to lose. lol

The dealer was on fire. I'd have a three 8's he'd have three 9's. Jerk. At one point I had four of a kind so then this guy starting playing my Trips and the deal was I got 75%. It actually hit a couple of times but I still managed to walk away a loser.

I really like this game but I hope I can find some cheaper buy ins in Vegas. I'm staying a the El Cortez so I think I should be able to.

Last I heard el co doesn't deal pai gow anymore, but you should find 10 dollar pg at plaza

 

Sam's Town has a $5 Pai Gow table...also, in Reno they abound.

 

No matter what game you play, ending a 2 hour session down (or up) only 6 units should be well within any variance you may expect!

Let me ask you this... did you drink $120 worth of alcohol?

 

Sorry to hear about the losing session. Early losses are hard to claw back sometimes. But don't give up on pai gow! It's a great way to drink and play, fairly slow paced, and I found $10 pai gow poker at the Mirage at 10pm. It does suck when you lose a number of hands right off the bat though.

It is really easy to screw up hands with two pair... not necessarily the high pair/mid pair with an Ace grey area.

Once, I was dealt a straight flush that also had a pair of 9s and 10s. Correct play is the 9s on top and 10s on the bottom. Instead I was so excited about the straight flush that I paid the 10-9 on top and pushed the hand.

I've also inadvertantly put the high pair on the top and the low pair on the bottom.

As I tell my wife over (and over and over and over) again, if you even have a teensy doubt, show your cards to the dealer and ask what the House Way is. The dealer can't tell you how to play the hand, but s/he can tell you how the casino rules say to set the hand.

 

Oh and I used the wrong term. I don't know what the bonus circle is/was that one can play. I got it confused with ultimate texas holdem. (Trips)

6 units over 2 hours is not bad at all. Did you flat bet? Press up to 50% when on a win streak and keep it at the minimum when losing. The game is choppy or a game of streaks over a long table session with a lot of ties mixed in. If the dealer is on a hot streak you can bank or if you are on a losing streak try changing table positions or sitting out a few hands until the dealer cools down.

 

During the daytime Binion's has a $5.00 table.

 

Perfect! Thank you. I just read this morning the Plaza closed their Poker Room. Which is a bummer as I was going to go there.

 

I've played $10 tables at Treasure Island and Tropicana on the strip. Shouldn't be too hard to find at that level. Dealers were very helpful as I was just learning so I made a few mistakes here or there. I believe Downtown Grand also had $5 or $10 table, can't remember exactly, but that was about a year ago. Lost $70 the first time I played, then won $85 the next time, then lost $8 the third time. It's known as the drinkers game for a reason, you play for a long time and you usually don't end up losing (or winning) a ton, and mostly end up about even, but you can get a lot of "free" drinks along the way.

never played it before dealer was really friendly and helpfull, they even let me expose my cards to the entire table and they allowed people to help me !

 

Most casinos have the Bonus Bet (pays at Trips or higher but not called a Trips bet like UTH)...where I play they also have the Progressive bet for $1 that you can also play in addition to the bonus.

I know I've played at some casinos that don't have a Bonus Bet or Progressive. Those places suck since you have no opportunity to do anything better than double your bet (minus commission)..I believe that's what the Pai Gow tables are at South Point...no bonus bet..
