After 29.5 years of working, I am retiring in two short months!

I was going to go next February, but I want to enjoy the Summer! Maybe I'll celebrate with a Vegas run?..........

    Congratulations.
18 great years of retirement here.
After the 1st 6 months of retirement I suggest volunteering for a good cause. It feels good.

This is also known as 'entering the next phase' - and what a surprise, retired almost 8 years now - busier than ever, totally different priorities (like going to Vegas when we want to go rather than going when our jobs and schedules permit), as another poster said volunteering, even if it is just helping an elderly neighbor to the grocery store and Dr or more structured volunteer work. Honestly, this is our happy time beyond the happy times we had raising and providing forour familly.

    Get thyself to Vegas!

UGGHHHHH....you guys are killing me! I keep saying I would love to retire, and I could do that in less than 2 years under our current system. (and 34 years at my institution). But then I think...I'm too young (I would be almost 56) and what the heck am I going to do, besides gamble and spend all my retirement funds....LOL. The healthcare is where the kicker is, since I am the one who carries the health insurance for the spouse and I. Damn.

    Oh, and congratulations Rush.

I got two and half more years. That's my goal anyway. I can retire right now if I want to. I might be just like you one day and say screw this, I quit.

    Congratulations on your retirement. Enjoy!!

    Nice!

You know, I plan ok, and am on track for early retirement, and usually feel good about it. Then I start counting my working post-college years, and realize I am still not halfway there ....... yikes.

Congratulations! I retired last April and have no regrets. For that matter, I have never heard anyone say they retired too early. We all know when it is time.
