I love all trip reports. Yes, slot players, please post your reports! I'm a craps player but I love to play Slots and VP when I need a break from the tables.

Variety is the spice of life! I share my local and Vegas slotting adventures in many places. Mulitple message boards and multiple Facebook groups dedicated to Vegas and and gambling and some focused on just slotting. I've meet people from all around the world from the various places I post. Yes, I've been given an infraction for snark, but only after the person was snarky to me somewhere else, and I happened to mention something here, rather than the other place. Yes, one place may come off as elitist, but that's a group of a different focus. And that's okay - variety is the spice of life! And a Slotting only section would be a great addition!

I agree that "casino gaming" is a pretty broad topic, and there are already (gambling) sections for sports betting and live poker.

Maybe split the casino gaming section into "machine gaming" (slots, VP, bubble craps, electronic BJ) and "table gaming" (BJ, craps, baccarat, roulette, poker based table games aka "carny" games).

That would probably be a more even split then having a section just for slots, and then one for every other game on the casino floor.

IMHO I think change depends on the demand. As time passes there have been an addition of different things to some boards based on the demand. Poker was one of them, 12 years ago poker was more relegated to the back rooms but with the WSOP it has taken off and so a topic was created for that. One poster complained that there wasn't enough information on the slots so Sonya was asking if people wanted a separate topic for slots. (I think that is a good idea though I don't play the slots much).

I was on another site where the head guy had a "my house, my rules" attitude. He had a "my way or the highway" attitude so many of us left (some for here) because of his attitude (I won't go into any details to keep my comments "clean"). I think it's good to evolve according to the demand because then you attract a wide variety of members and are keeping up with the times. btw, that other site "died" and he no longer runs the site (sold it or gave it to someone less abrasive and more flexible).

A very quick note just on trip reports: I love them all. High Roller, low roller, mid roller, first timer, vet, degenerate ... I love seeing how everyone does Vegas. One of the main things I love about the city is that it's somewhere people of ALL walks and economic statuses can go, have the time of their lives, and bond over the common, shared love of Vegas. It's a place that transcends normal social inhibitions, I think, and it's a beautiful thing. There is such pure joy among everyone who writes TRs, such genuine passion and emotion, that it is just a true pleasure to read.

Yes! Dannyocean, you are right about that and that's also what I love about Vegas and have tried to recreate here, on some level.

Although I haven't been getting there as often as I'd like, due to some health and finance stuff, Vegas is, and probably always will be, my happy place. It's where my friends meet up and leave all the nonsense at home behind them. It's where I make new friends, even if only for a minute or two (talking about you, my orange Dutch friends from downtown, wherever you are!), and I feel like I can truly peel off the layers of crap left by life and enjoy myself.

Sure, once there was that guy downtown who punched his girlfriend in the face a few feet from us. But he's not welcome in my Vegas-mode, just like he wouldn't be welcome here. No bullies or jerks! None of us like the beggars and hustlers, so we try to keep spam out of here. Nobody wants to sit down at a table or machine and have the guy next to you go on a political rant that pushes your buttons, so no politics here. If I could comp virtual drinks, I'd do it! :drunk:

There is one thing we all have in common, a love of Las Vegas and whatever it gives to us. But few of us can live in vacation mode like that all the time, so I like to think of VMB as a little slice of Vegas when I need it and can't jump on my private jet. ;) That's why I love the tagline - When you can't be there, be here! I think that was HurricaneMikey's suggestion way back in the day. Every member here brings a slightly different perspective and experience. From our coupon masters, to our high rollers. From club goers to spa lovers. I am constantly learning about new things and new ways people "do Vegas".

And that's why I have such a negative reaction to the us vs them and snark and bickering. I love learning about Vegas and thinking about Vegas almost as much as I like going to Vegas. I want this place to be somewhere that we can share and learn and explore and even whine a bit because those resort fees are annoying. :) Just free from all the negativity, fighting and garbage that clogs so many other places on the internet.

In the words of the prophet, Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?" :wink2:

Sonya, thanks for all that you do. I truly enjoy coming here daily and not having to worry about a lot of the bs that takes place to commonly on forums. Now if I could just contribute a bit more and actually start posting some TR's in the near future instead of being lazy. A few years ago, I thought that I knew so much about Vegas and then I found VMB... THANK YOU!

I'm in a monogamous relationship with VMB and plan to keep it that way...

(Sometimes my feeble attempts at humor come off as snarky, so feel free to smack me when needed).

I think my biggest thing was that posts I felt were made in good humor and I felt should not have been deleted were. I would also get annoyed when there was no explanation as to why. I would come back and my post would be gone. I think that was the biggest pet peeve for the people that have moved on. I believe your house, your rules, that's reality. Thankfully we're adults and can make a choice.

Good point. There should be explanations. I know there are times in the past when one of my posts have been deleted without explanation because it was a response to another post that was deleted for violating the rules. But that is not always obvious, so there should be at least a quick note explaining why

I am working on that. Sometimes there is a lot to clean up and I miss a few, but I'm working on getting better about it. I know that is an issue and I'm trying to make some room to let people know when posts have been edited or deleted.

This is probably the ONLY board where I post that explanations are given. No other mods do it, so I don't expect it.

(And as a mod elsewhere and here - different topic areas - it's hard for me to remember that people here expect a personal note when they break rules)

I've had infractions handed over to me and several of my posts were deleted with warnings.

    I believe 100% that I deserved it.

I also believe that every one of them were in response to a very obvious post or remark that showed absolutely no respect for the OP or the opinions of those who chose to participate in the thread.

Some of those posts were directed to one or two members who decided to post elsewhere.

I know I should have ignored these asshats and confess I posted knowing full well I will be disciplined.

But sometimes you must make a stand and put these disrespectful people in their place. I know that's where the moderators step in and now I really try hard to ignore these type of posts.

But it's hard. Some members believe the rest of us are beneath them. I don't like that.

We are all human.. I'd be lying if I said they weren't times where I have had to delete a response calling someone out for being rude or disrespectful where I wasn't thinking "Yeah...what he said" :)

I think it's more in regards to the posts that I've had deleted, that half the time I have no idea why and didn't feel they should be deleted. It's a situation where I felt it was friendly banter or I unrudely expressed my opinion about a property. I mean have I got infractions? Absolutely, and in those cases they were generally well deserved. I also wonder how consistent it is between the mods? Is it just one doing a lot of the deletions on posts. I don't know HOYA at all so would he or she delete my post because they feel it "might" offend just one of the 30,000 members, versus Breanna who who knows my personality a bit and knows it's all in good fun and might let it slide?

In almost every situation, a post is deleted because someone did report it first. So its not a situation where another member might be offended. Somebody was. Even then, when another member reports a post, the mods frequently take the approach that the reporting member needs to get over it and the reported post is not deleted. Still, if a member ever feels that a post was removed incorrectly, contact the mods to discuss. Tone is often times hard to evaluate. Speaking for myself, I know I have made mistakes in that regard and when a member contacted me to explain what they meant (not what I mistakenly thought they meant), the problem is resolved and Sonya would restore the post.

I don't like that either. Our rules are set up to avoid those kinds of posts whenever possible. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and I think many of my problems here are rooted in giving some people way too many chances. I'm revisiting some of my polices on banning people to address that.

My vision for VMB has always been, and continues to be, a friendly, open community where people can come to share and learn about Las Vegas and all the things it has to offer. I try to take criticisms of my work here to heart and try to improve things. However, I am fully aware that I can't please all the people, all of the time. Sorry.
