Just arrived back in the UK today after a lovely week at Mandalay Bay. Third time visiting Vegas and fancy booking up October again. We have always stayed on the strip but wouldn't mind staying somewhere off strip (but with shuttle or good links to the Strip). Not too fussed on price as love the posh casino's but also like a bit of "old Vegas" too.

First post here and only signed up today so if already been asked before my apologies.

My recommendations, in order, would be...

    1. Stay anywhere downtown on Fremont Street and take the SDX bus to wherever you'd like on the strip. Downtown is the best part of Vegas, IMO. It's exactly what I had initially envisioned as "old Vegas"... right out of the movies. Usually no more than 30 minutes each way to/from centre strip.

    2. Stay at the Westgate or SLS, and take the monorail which has a station in each hotel, down to the strip. The SLS has a sleek, new appearance that isn't very "old Vegas" (but beautiful - don't get me wrong). The Westgate is a very important part of Las Vegas history... it's formerly known as the Las Vegas Hilton - and it's where Elvis and Liberace made their legendary performances way back when. Doesn't have the same look and feel as LVH did, but you'll feel a touch of "old Vegas" there for sure. Also much more of a relaxed feel/pace than most strip/downtown properties.

    3. Stay somewhere east/west of the strip such as the Orleans, which offers a proprietary shuttle service to the strip.

Thanks for your advice, will have a look at The Westgate and also The Orleans. Always go Fremont Street when in Vegas but seemed a lot more beggars this week . Also looked at Red Rock Resort which seems to have a shuttle service.

I would try the Orleans and Gold Coast. They both connect to the strip via free shuttles. Also, Rio and the Palms are right across the street from GC, so you have other Casinos to hit also.
I would also suggest Red Rock Resort (as another poster mentioned), which is really, really nice, not old school but a place i would have lunch dinner and gamble a little before driving back to the Strip after the Canyon (before my health problems which prevent me from driving). Also, if you don't have a car, rent one for a morning/afternoon drive the Red Rock Canyon which is real close to the resort.

You might also want to look at M Resort. A bit further away from the action, but also has a shuttle, and is fancier than most off strip places.

Rio has a good shuttle. Actually 2 of them. One to/from Harrah's and the other to/from Bally's. Both run frequently until 1 a.m. You could stay at Gold Coast or Palms and just walk over and use the Rio shuttle (they don't check if you are staying there). GC and Palms have shuttles but they aren't as frequent or convenient. Orleans has a shuttle. I like playing at the Orleans more than I like staying there.

Thanks for the great answers guys reckon The Gold Coast with a few more casinos around there could be the way to go. Will be going back perhaps twice a year from now on so plenty to go at.

    Rio all suite Hotel

We will be staying in the Rio hotel this is off the strip. It has a free shuttle to take you to the strip. This is our 3rd time going to vegas the other two times we have stayed on the strip. We will be going October
