I was sitting at a machine years ago when it was all coin payout . 25 cent vp. Some shady guy puts 1coin in at a time. I had a bucket full and the guy 3 machines away from me had a bucket. I looked at the other guy with the bucket to let him know something was going on, and shady guy grabbed his bucket. As soon as that happened I'm yelling SECURITY. Those are the days I miss and these are the days I am glad we don't have cash payouts. But I think the most fun was walking from casino to casino with your bucket, and stopping to eat and leaving and the waitress says don't forget your bucket

We each had 100 in our bucket and he ending losing maybe 3.00. But after it happened we were both laughing because I was yelling SECURITY and he had no idea what was going on. Just another night in Vegasl

The real story of course is, the thief takes the bucket, runs away, stumbles and the whole bucket is spread all over the casino floor.

I'm totally envisioning the "Ginger meets Sam"/throwing the chips in the air scene at the craps table in Casino.

Ah yes !.....those dirty, filthy coins that sooted up your hands ---
and in the course of battling those slots -- you scratched an itch here + there -
wiped your eye....adjusted your shorts + shirt..........
then walked into the bathroom, looked in the mirror as you washed your hands ---- and saw
your face, pants, shirt etc. covered in dirty/filthy coin soot !
    I miss those days !

There were lots of pair of thieves that would work the slot areas. You have your bucket of coins to the left of your machine. Someone creates a small distraction to your right. You look. Other thief has your bucket and is gone. One simple distraction was someone dropping a few coins on the floor next to you. Naturally you'll look, sometimes you'll even get off your chair and help the person pick up the coins. There were always clips on this on various Casino cheating TV shows.

I saw this happen in Golden Gate. Maybe 15 years ago, around 3 or 4 AM, Coin thief is quietly making his way down the narrow aisle headed towards the front just passed the Mens room. Someone behind him starts screaming SECURITY! and pointing at the perp. One guard comes out of the Mens room behind him another come out of the cage in front of him. He tries to stop, spills all the coin and slips on them like its ice. The thief does a half somersault with both guards crashing into him at the same moment. All three are momentarily dazed. The bad guy dives under the nearest Black Jack table wraps himself around the legs and will not let go. Guard one produces a baton and starts smashing the bad guys fingers. Eventually they drag him out and cuff him, workers come out of the cage and gather the coin. The old bartender looks at the five or six of us sitting at the bar and Says " Next drink is on the house" and we applaud What a show..like something out of a movie.

I used to pull that scam with a buddy back in the 80's. I would toss a coin, and he would grab the bucket. The thing is, people didn't seem to care about a lousy quarter, so I had to up the ante.

I would drop a hundred dollar bill by their chair, and cough a little bit, it worked like a charm! They would bend down and pick up the hundo, and my buddy would nab their $17 in quarters!

It seemed like a good plan......
