Have you ever just grabbed a 2nd room downtown for a night?

So, my original plan was to stay the first 1-2 nights of my next trip downtown

Now i'm having cold feet/second thoughts. I don't know if I want to go thru the packing/unpacking hassle and get rides back n forth, and do the whole check in process again on the strip half way through

But, what I was thinkin, if I head downtown day kinda early, hang out and do some things.... If I wind up having fun and pretty drunk, just grab a room down there. Crash in my clothes and head back the next morning

    Anyone ever done this?

Yes, we do it all of the time. We normally have bus passes to get downtown and I don't want to ride it drunk at 2am when we are tired, so we grab a cheap room, throw our same clothes on in the morning, and head back then. I recommend Fremont, as it is usually cheap and has no added resort fees. We've also done Golden Gate, Plaza, and El Cortez for similar purposes. Right now you can stay at Fremont for under $40 including taxes (no fees) and a get $10 food voucher (donuts and coffee/juice in the morning). You can grab an El Cortez room for under $30. Both clean, not fancy, fine for sleeping.

We usually stay on the strip but if we are offered a free or cheap room downtown or off strip, we'll take it. Pack an overnight bag and be off. This way if we rented a car, we can drive downtown, stay overnight, and drive back to the strip in the morning. This is probably less expensive than a taxi back and forth and no worries about drinking and driving.

Downtown can be pretty dead early in the day, so I'd recommend you head down mid-afternoon at the earliest. Bring an overnight bag and book the room so you you'll have it and won't have to deal with checking in drunk. You can just crawl up to your room at the end of the night and have a proper change of clothes and a toothbrush waiting for you.

yeah, the only "daytime" thing I wanted to do, was eat the MTO cafe for breakfast, which I could prob do the next morning, and check out the Mob Museum. Other than that, I just wanted to play good odds VP/BJ and bar hop

I don't really wanna worry about lugging a bag around, unless I could just check it with a bell hop at a hotel, that I may or may not crash at, and just get it out and go back to the strip if I do not stay over night

No but I do it the other way around. I'll get a Rush Tower room for eight days but I'll also book a room at Cosmo for a night and take an overnight bag with a dob kit and a couple changes of clothes.

Both the plaza and fremont have let me check in before 11am on my last couple trips so you can really get a full day out of that room downtown if you want to commit in advance.

I've gotten a room downtown just to crash a few times. We tend to hit it pretty hard while downtown so crawling to a room is preferably to getting a cab and heading back to the strip.

    Same as that.

Think I'm going to grab a couple nights at the Aria, while I'm playing the WPT there this summer.

Save me doing $100+ on cabs back and forth.

Yup. Last time we were in Vegas we were booked at the Mirage the whole trip but also booked one night at a Golden Gate suite on Saturday. It was a nice way to crash downtown but still not miss out on pool time during the day.

I would definitely do that again.

Done it lots of times. We would book a night sometime during the week and just pack an overnight bag.

Never have done this but sounds like a good idea to spend a night downtown without worrying about getting back to the strip. Boy that's one long sentence.

After hemming and hawing, I did this for my up coming trip. I have a comped room for Tues- Sat on the strip and booked a Cabana jr suite at El Co ( after getting some great advice) for Thurs night, this way I have no need to worry about attempting to make my way back to home base. Also, I was thinking of checking out container park and maybe the MOB museum while DT.
