Slots Are skill-based slots out on the floor yet?

I have been watching the development of the skill based games on the news and it seems like they are ready to go. Has anyone seen or played one yet?

 

There more like slots with the bonus being somewhat skill based. the casinos trying to appeal to the millennials

 

Slots are something I want to do when I want to get away from thinking too much... Hopefully the skill-based slots are clearly marked and if you are looking forward to them I hope they arrive soon for you. Not everyone's cup of tea

 

The idea is that the bonus round would contain an element of skill, like playing Space Invaders. Those who are better at the game would have a better chance of winning a larger share of the money the machine is willing to give out, a less skilled player would take away a smaller portion or be less likely to get paid.

I still haven't read an explanation of how this is supposed to work, math-wise.

Seems to me the only way it works for the casino is, instead of your lucky spin paying you "X" amount, "X" amount becomes the "max" amount.

Similar to in the original Wizard of Oz, which had a bonus, a portion of which had you touch emeralds on the screen to reveal amounts. So it was possible by chance you would pick all the highest amounts, but not likely. So they turn that into skill-based somehow. And you have players that develop the necessary skill. So the casino has to suck it out of the lower payouts, and make the bonus less frequent.

 

I hate this idea. I like to play slots drunk because I don't have to or want to think. Just my 2c.

 

I agree wholeheartedly, I occasionally play penny slots when I get tired of grinding out the video poker. Just push the button and watch the fun. But I spent most of my high school and college years in video arcades, I'd be interested to see if those useless skills could make me some money.

I'm not sure how these would work, but I'm intrigued. I mean, just like with anything else that's skill-based, you'll eventually have people that are so much better than the rest of the population.

I suppose they could limit how much your skill plays into the overall results, and cap your winnings for the bonus round, or whatever part of the game relies partially on skill.

If not, then we may see people getting backed off from slot machines! "Sir, you're still welcome to stay and play with us, but you'll have to stick to BJ or VP. No more slots for you."

 

Read somewhere the industry's initial thought was to protect their revenue against highly skilled players by increasing the difficulty to such identified players. Think I saw this somewhere on the Slot Fanatics website. Also it was pointed out the regulators would interpret this as discriminating against those without the capability to master or develop skills such as the disabled, elderly or mentally challenged - because they would continue to welcome these folks to continue playing as weak skills would mean more slot profit to the casinos.

 

I remember playing one at Potwatami in Milwaukee where if you got the bonus round you had to shoot at invading space ships or something. Now how much of what you won was skill or predetermined or randomly generated by the computer inside I don't know. Don't recall them having a credit value showing on them before you shot them.

 

I don't think the house has a stake in the skill of the player. The machine will be set to pay out a certain amount in bonus, the skilled players will take more of it than the unskilled. Like a rake at the poker table, the house is unaffected by the distribution among the players.

 

I played some of these a few years back when they were in one of the CT casinos.

The bonuses were skill based (one was similar to pacman, one I think you caught falling stars). The bonus pool would roll over to the next bonus if you didn't t win it all, so the skill was really you against the previous player more than you against the house.
This led to teams waiting around, showing old ladies how to play, and then swooping in to take all the built up bonus money as soon as they left.

There was also skill involved in the main game. The three wheels would spin very quickly and you could stop each In turn by hitting the button and unlike all other games I've seen, doing so here did affect the outcome.

I played the Tully Treasure Hunt game this past weekend at the Horseshoe Hammond (though the video below is from Red Rock).

When you get the bonus game, you can choose between traditional free spins and the treasure hunt. You control the turtle with a joystick on the console. I chose the treasure hunt, and let me say that years and years of video game play did not train me for this. Usually, when you pull down on a joystick, the character on the screen goes up (think of it like a plane... pull back and the plane takes off). Just that in this game it was the opposite. I caught about 10 coins (if I was lucky) and spent most of my time crashing my turtle into the rocks because I kept pulling the joystick back trying to get him to go up.

The weird thing, though, is that I was under the impression that skill-based gaming was just being rolled out. According to the internet (which is never incorrect, is it?) Tully's Treasure Hunt has been around for a couple of years.

Trust me, based on my "skill", I'm taking the free spins next time. I don't have the bankroll to practice the treasure hunt to any sort of proficiency.

Here's an interview from American Casino Guide where they talk about the new Skill based games. I think the above examples are just bonus rounds, but your "skill" in the bonus round doesn't actually affect the overall payback percentage, it's just an illusion. In this video they talk about how playing the skill based games will change the percentage and you can actually watch the percentage increase (or decrease) as you play.

Looks like they are expected to hit casinos in the middle of this year.

You always make the correct hold even when drunk, right? I know I do and the machine has never told me I made the wrong play in Vegas. :evillaugh

English slot machines (we call them fruit machines or fruities) have had this element for a long time. It just makes it harder to win. You'll find a few of these in every bar in the land.
