We are staying at the Golden Nugget FEB.15 thru Feb 19 and was wanting to maybe get a lesson on Playing Craps. I know that on the Strip there are casinos that offer this in the mornings but haven't heard of any downtown. Any help would be tremendously appreciated. also in your opinions is craps a beginner friendly game or should I stick to B.J. and V.P??

Golden Nugget has lessons at 10:30 in the morning.....

And craps is way fun. When you win the whole table wins. Of course when you lose..... But really everybody is right there with you. In my experience it's the most fun game in the casino.

Very fun game. How long to learn?...it depends on the teacher. I teach people standing next to me how to play the basic game in 60 seconds...no shit...60 seconds. And they understand it, at least the basic game. Overall, it will take a few times playing before you feel at home with all of the bets and the rhythm of the game. But just find a $5 game and keep your bets low and simple the first time and you'll have fun. (I'm not being over zealous in my estimation, I'm a high school teacher AND a craps dealer. Really.):wiggle:

It is the most fun with the lowest house edge. I have taught many people and the basic game is very easy to understand. The most confusion is about the movement of money and when to pick something up. Try to start on a non-crowded table and let the dealer know that you are learning. Or ask the person next to you. Most people are there to have fun and are willing to help. The worst that can happen is that you learn to identify those who are not there to have fun; they should be avoided or bet against.

If you down to the El Cortez after your lesson they offer $3 craps during the day and since they are training the dealers the pace is a lot slower and the dealers and pit bosses are more then happy help.

Your not going to be in Vegas 2/15 thru 2/19 by chance. Sounds like I just need a minute of your time... Thank you for your response.

As mentioned earlier, there are craps lessons offered at GN in the mornings, but I don't think it's every morning.

My suggestion is to play early in the mornings. The tables are usually empty or sparse so just let the dealers know you are learning.

Try not to learn everything at once. Just play the passline and WATCH. You'll be surprised that, aside from learning to focus and some timing, the game of craps is easy to learn and understand.

Here's a site you might want to check out before you go. The html coding in the text is a little funky, though. It's a humorous craps primer for beginners:

Thank you all for your help. I always notice the Craps tables are always the loudest areas of the Casino but because of my ignorance to the game I would just walk on by. I am going to try it this trip. Thanks again for all your ADVICE..

This is what drew me to the game - the raucous environment.

My boss bought me a book to read and I downloaded an app and started learning.

It seems very intimidating because of the fast pace and so many people throwing bets out there. However the basics are very easy. Make sure to tell the dealer it is your first time and they will help. Don't forget to tip them for helping!

My first time I waited until like 4am and went to an empty table at Bills and told the guys it was my first time. I threw the dice off the table and was tentative but it helped me a lot. By the end of that trip I was comfortable enough to play several sessions

You'll realize that the table is the same on either side of the stickman. Catherine center bets (hard ways, hops, horn) can be fun but can confuse a beginner so try to stick with the basic pass line, odds and place bets.

    Good luck and have fun!

I'd suggest playing at the Golden Gate. The craps crews are great. If you play during slow times, they will definitely help you and answer any questions. It's usually $5 minimums.

Free craps lessons at the Plaza, Monday through Thursday, 4pm to 5pm - apparently. :ssst:

I don't see this listed on the Plaza Casino website, but it's found on their companion Royal Rewards website. (one of several images in a rotating .gif ad)

I love the game of craps and teaching people how to play. It is not uncommon for me to see somebody watching and if I'm up, spot them the money to play. On one occasion, a man new to the game was told by the dealer to play big red. I was not happy, but just watched. I was the only one at the table. When the man lost all his money and continued to watch me, I tossed him a $5 chip and told him to put it on the pass line. After establishing a point, I tossed him two $5 chips and told him to put them behind the pass line. I then went on a great roll. When I was coloring up and leaving the table, the man had a rack full of chips and was throwing the dice. That is a good day at the office,

    Nice!

I like explaining the game too. When I was a novice I wish I had someone help me so I like to help the rookies out.

When I see a newbie shooting without odds I'll toss them a couple red birds to put behind their pass or I'll tell the dealer to make their 6 and 8 look right. A lot of times people still put increments of $5 out there
